Preface
This guide describes the features and operation of the Logitech HD Webcam
C310.
Who Should Use This Guide?
This guide is intended for new users with little or no experience using the
Logitech HD Webcam C310. The goal of this document is to give a broad
overview of the main features and some basic instructions on how install and use
the Logitech HD Webcam C310.
Support
In addition to this guide, refer to www.logitech.com for additional information
and support.
Document Conventions
The following text defines the various document conventions used throughout this
guide. Where possible, the text in the guide will match what appears on screen.
Screen text, messages, and text you type — Messages that appear on the
computer screen or text that you are required to type appears in Courier
New.
Directory paths and file names — Text appears in Courier New. For
example, C:\Program Files\Logitech.
Menu names and options — Menu paths appear with an arrow () between
menu names indicating the next menu option in the sequence. Menu text and
button options appear in Times New Roman, initial caps, and bold to simulate
the Microsoft
®
Windows
®
7 operating system (OS) environment.
Conditional text and variables — Text appears in Times New Roman,
italics.
Keycaps and key combinations — Text indicating the keys on the keyboard
or a series of keys to be pressed simultaneously. Typically, text is enclosed in
angle brackets. For example: <Alt> + <F1> indicates that the Alt and F1 keys
are to be pressed simultaneously.
Acronyms and abbreviationsText is called out on first occurrence in
each chapter of the guide.

Chapter 1 - Introduction
The Logitech HD Webcam C310 is a high definition (HD) camera used for HD
video calling and connecting online. The Webcam C310 uses Logitech’s Fluid
Crystal Technology which is a proprietary algorithm that automatically adjusts the
frame rate, color and sharpness to provide the best possible picture and motion.
Fluid Crystal gives you what you need to make your video calls (and recorded
videos) better.
Smoother video motion, without annoying choppiness, in real-world
conditions
Sharper pictures, more detailed, more real, more true to life
Richer more natural looking colors
Clearer more natural sound
This guide provides the installation and configuration procedures for the Logitech
Webcam C310.
Hardware Overview
The Webcam C310 includes the following features:
HD video calls — HD 720p video calling on most major instant messaging
applications.
Built-in mic with noise reduction — Clear conversations without annoying
background noise.
5-megapixal snapshots — High-resolution snapshots at up to 5 megapixels
(software enhanced).

Automatic light correction — Intelligently adjusts to produce the best possible
image.
IM compatibility — Works with Skype™, Windows Live™ Messenger,
Yahoo!® Messenger and other popular instant messaging applications.
The following basic system specifications are required for a successful
installation:

Software Overview
You must have the Logitech Webcam Software (LWS) v2.0 installation disc
available for a successful installation.

Note: Contact Logitech Customer Support at (510) 795-8544 if you need
assistance installing or configuring your webcam.
This chapter includes the following sections:

Setting up the Webcam
To place the webcam onto your system:
1. Bend the clip so the base of the webcam rests on or near the center of the
system monitor.
2. Hold the clip while adjusting the webcam up or down so you are looking into
the webcam lens, as shown in the following figure:
3. Connect the USB camera cable to the USB port on your system.

Installing the Webcam Software
Perform the following steps to install the webcam software:
1. Turn on the power to your system.
2. Insert the Logitech Webcam Software (LWS) v2.0 installation disc into the
DVD drive.
3. Navigate to the DVD drive directory and double-click MSetup.
4. When the Welcome window appears, select your preferred language, and
click Next.
5. When prompted, plug your webcam into a USB port on your system.
6. Wait a few minutes for the hardware to be found, and then click Next.
Note: If you prefer to pick which software features to install, choose Custom
Install in the following step.
7. When the Which type of installation do you prefer? window appears, select
Quick Install and Check for and install updates, and then click Next.
A window appears showing the installation progress.
8. When the software is installed! window appears, click the X in the upper
right corner to close the application.
9. Remove and store the installation disc.
Installing the Skype Video Calling Application
Note: There are several free video calling applications available for
download and installation. For this example, we are using Skype.
Perform the following steps to install Skype:
1. From your web browser, navigate to www.skype.com
and click Downloads.
2. When the Skype for Windows desktop window appears, click Get Skype
for Windows desktop.
3. When the Do you want skypefull.exe setup to run on this computer
message appears, click Run.
4. When the Do you want this program to make changes to this computer?
notification window appears, click Yes .
5. When the Installing Skype window appears, select your language, and click I
agree-Next.
6. When the Skype Click to Call window appears, check or uncheck Install
Skype Click to Call, and click Continue.
7. When the Search Engine and Homepage Options window appears, check or
uncheck to install Bing as the search engine and MSN as the homepage, and
then click Continue.

8. When the Installation Complete window appears, click Close to exit the
Skype installation wizard.
Setting up Skype With the Logitech Webcam
To set up Skype with the Logitech webcam you must first verify that your
webcam is functioning and then select the webcam in the Skype application
settings.
Note: The following procedure assumes the webcam is plugged into a working
USB port and that the webcam software is installed.
Perform the following steps to setup Skype with the Logitech webcam:
1. Click Start All Programs Logitech Logitech Webcam Software.
2. Click the Quick Capture option, as shown in the following figure:
3. Make sure you can see yourself in the Logitech Webcam Software window.
4. Click the X in the upper-right hand corner to close the Logitech Webcam
Software window.
5. Click Start All Programs Skype Skype.
6. From the Skype Home window, click Tools Options.

7. When the Skype Options window appears, click Video settings and select
Logitech Webcam from the Select webcam drop-down menu, as shown in
the following figure:
8. From the Skype Options window, click Audio settings and select Logitech
Webcam from the Microphone drop-down menu, as shown in the following
figure:
9. Click Save to apply your settings and close the Skype Options window.
The webcam is now setup and ready for operation.
10. From the Skype Home page, click Call Video Call to start a video call
session.

Note: Contact Logitech Customer Support at (510) 795-8544 if you need
assistance troubleshooting your webcam.
Refer to the information provided in this chapter for general procedures you can
use to troubleshoot the following most common problems that occur with the
C310 webcam:
Webcam is not detected by your computer
Image quality issues
Microphone and audio issues
Webcam is not Detected by Your Computer
If the webcam is not detected by your computer, try the following:
Unplug and then plug in the webcam to make sure it is firmly seated.
Try a different USB port on your computer.
Ensure that you have the correct software installed for your webcam.
If your webcam is connected to a USB 3.0 port (usually has a blue plastic
insert), try using a USB 2.0 port instead.
Try connecting the webcam to a different computer.
Note: If your camera isn't detected by a second computer, it may be defective.
Identifying the Correct Software Version for Your Webcam
Perform the following steps to identify the correct software version for your
webcam:
1. Locate the tag on the camera's USB cable.
2. Turn the tag to the side that shows the Logitech logo.
You will see three sets of characters.
The camera's part number will be listed to the right of P/N.
The camera's model number will be listed to the right of M/N.
3. Identify webcam’s part number and model number in the Camera Matrix
table.
4. Check for the latest software version that you can use with your webcam.

Image Quality Issues
If the image quality on your webcam needs adjusting, you can use the Logitech
Webcam software to make improvements.
The following sections describe how to adjust the image quality and improve the
image quality.
Adjusting Image Quality
Perform the following steps to adjust the image quality on your webcam:
1. Click Start All Programs Logitech Logitech Webcam Software.
2. Click Quick Capture, as shown in the following figure:

3. When the Logitech Software Window appears, click Controls.
4. From the Controls window, click Advanced Settings.
5. From the Advanced Settings window, uncheck RightLight and Auto.
The automatic settings are cleared, allowing you to manually adjust the image
settings.

Move the sliders to adjust the image quality to your preferred settings.
Improving Image Quality
Perform the following steps to improve image quality or avoid any type of
blurriness from your camera.
1. Adjust the lighting in the area that you are using your webcam.
2. Ensure that your computer meets the hardware specifications as listed in the
Hardware Overview section in Chapter 1 of this guide.
3. Ensure that your webcam is connected to a high-speed port, preferably a high-
speed USB 2.0 port.
Microphone and Audio Issues
If you are experiencing microphone or audio issues, verify the microphone is
working on your computer and that the microphone is selected in the LWS
application.
The following sections describe how to troubleshoot your C310 microphone.
Verifying Your Speakers Work
Perform the following steps to verify that your speakers are working:
1. Click the audio icon located in the Start bar at the bottom of the desktop.
2. If the computer audio is muted, uncheck Mute.
3. Close the Audio icon by clicking anywhere on your computer.
4. Click Start All Programs Accessories Sound Recorder.
5. Click Start Recording and speak into the webcam microphone.
6. Click the Stop button.
7. Click the Play button.
8. If there is no sound at playback, verify the C310 microphone is selected.
9. From the Sound Recorder window, click Edit Audio Properties.
10. From the Sound Recording Default device pull-down menu, ensure the Logi-
tech Mic (HD Webcam C310) microphone is listed.

11. If the C310 microphone is not listed as the Default device, select it from the
drop-down menu and repeat Steps 5-7 to verify your microphone is working
correctly.
Verifying the Microphone is Selected in the LWS Application
Perform the following steps to verify the microphone is selected in the LWS
application:
1. Click Start All Programs Logitech Logitech Webcam Software.
2. From the LWS menu, click Change Settings Audio Settings.
3. From the Select Microphone drop-down menu, ensure the C310 microphone
is listed.
4. If the C310 microphone is not listed, select it from the drop-down menu and
then close the Audio Settings window.
