Audioplex INW-2 Installation guide

Power: Transformers rated at 72 Watts RMS continuous (216 Watts audio)
35Hz-20kHz.
Load: 4 or 8 Ohm speakers.
Size: INW-2 fits most single wall junction boxes.
Connections: Screw type connectors.
The INW-2 switches up to 2 pairs of 4 Ohm or higher impedance speakers in any
combination, while maintaining a safe load to the amplifier of 4 or 8 Ohms.
The load protection is achieved by use of an impedance matching transformer,
which offers several significant advantages. First, there is little or no heat developed
whether one or two speakers pairs are operating simultaneously, so no fire hazard exists
with the in-wall switcher. Second, all switching can be elegantly contained in a single in-wall junction
box without modification.
IMPORTANT
The INW-2 is normally supplied with the impedance matching jumper connected to the X2 position,
which multiplies the speaker impedance to 2 times the nominal value. Thus if 2 pairs of 4 Ohm speakers
are switched on at the same time, the parallel impedance load would be 2 Ohm. The transformer setting
multiplies the impedance by 2, so the total load to the amplifier appears as 4 Ohms. The jumper settings
can be adjusted to accommodate different situations.

The wiring diagram illustrates connections to the INW-2. Note that all the LEFT speaker and
amplifier LEFT channel connect to one side of the unit, and the RIGHT to the other. Wires should be
stripped about 1/4", inserted in the appropriate connector opening, and the screw tightened. Check to be
sure that no stray strands stick out to cause short circuits!

WIRING DIAGRAM
Power: Transformers rated at 72 Watts RMS continuous (216 Watts audio) 35Hz-20kHz
Load: Match up to 4 pairs of 4 or 8 Ohm speakers with all on simultaneously.*
Size: INW-4 fits most single in-wall junction boxes.
Connections: Screw type connectors.
*For amplifiers requiring a load of 8 Ohms or higher you must adjust tap settings to X16 when using more than 2
sets of 4 or 6 Ohm speakers.
The INW-4 switches up to 4 pairs of 4, 8 Ohm or higher impedance speakers in any
combination, while maintaining a safe load to the amplifier. The load protection is achieved by use of an
impedance matching transformer, which offers several significant advantages. First, there is little or no heat
developed whether one or all the speakers are operating simultaneously, so no fire hazard exists with the in-wall
switcher. Second, all switching can be contained in a single in-wall junction box without modification.
IMPORTANT
The INW-4 is supplied with two impedance matching jumpers that are normally connected to the X4 position,
which multiplies the speaker impedance to 4 times the nominal value. Thus if 4 pairs of 4 Ohm speakers are
switched on at the same time, the parallel impedance load would be 1.0 Ohms. The transformer setting multiplies
the impedance by 4, so the total load to the amplifier appears as 4 Ohms. The jumper settings can be adjusted to
accommodate different situations.
Wires should be stripped about 1/4", inserted in the appropriate connector opening, and the screw tightened.
