DESCRIPTION/APPLICATION
Ranco G1 (SPST) and G4 (DPST) direct replacement remote bulb
temperature controls match the speci caons of the original
equipment manufacturer. These controls may be either xed-seng
or have a range of adjustment (see specicaons on back). They have
been manufactured with various mounng bracket and dial sha
conguraons,as well as vari ous capillary lengths and bulb sizes. These
variaons have been tailored to the specic applicaon. The switch on
both the G1 and the G4 opens on a rise in temperature. These controls
are used in a variety of heang-type applicaons which include control
of: clothes dryers and laundry presses cooking ovens, fryers, and coee
urns; space heaters; various indus trial process equipment. The G1 may
control an elec tric heang element or an electrically operated gas valve.
The G4 most commonly operates an electric heang element and its
double pole switch is used to break both sides of the electrical circuit.
G1 Single pole, single throw (SPST)
open (cut-out) on rise
close (cut-in) on drop
G4 Double pole, single throw (DPST)
open (cut-out) on rise
close (cut-in) on drop
PREINSTALLATION STEPS
1. Disconnect electrical power.
2. Refer to the equipment manufacturer’s service manual.
3. Note posion and roung of the control’s sensing element.
4. Record the electrical wire to terminal connecons.
5. If the sensing element enters a pressurized ng or well,
cauously relieve the pressure and remove the uid prior to
removal of the control.
6. Remove control, retaining the screws and any hardware required
for the replacement.
CAUTION
To prevent possible electrical shock or equipment damage, disconnect
electrical power to the unit before and during installaon. DO NOT
restore electrical power to unit unl the control is properly installed
and the cover is assembled. DO NOT locate the control in an explosive
atmosphere as a safety hazard can result due to possible spark generaon
in the control. Controls are not to be located in areas of signicant
moisture ,dirt or dust, or in a corrosive explosive atmosphere. Use
of controls in such environments may result in injury or damage to
the persons or property (or both) and are likely to shorten control life;
Ranco assumes no responsibility for any such use.
INSTALLATION OF NEW CONTROL
1. The p of the screws used to mount the control must not extend
through the mounng bracket so as to touch the control body.
2. Taking care to not twist the control body secure it to the original
mounng.
CAPILLARY CARE AND MOUNTING
1. Hold the capillary close to the control and careful ly uncoil the
required amount. Minimize rebending of the capillary which makes
it more suscepble to breakage.
2. If the original control had a protecve sleeve on the capillary,
transfer it to the new control.
3. DO NOT cut the capillary or bulb. Avoid sharp bends, kinks, strains,
or pinch marks in the capil lary. Never allow the capillary to rest
against sharp edges or rub against metal surfaces. Avoid expos ing
the bulb and capillary to extreme temperatures.
4. A drip loop should be provided in the capillary to prevent moisture
from reaching the control and causing an electrical short.
5. Excess capillary should be placed in an area as free as possible from
excessive heat. Secure any excess capillary in 3 inch coils to avoid
damage from vibraon and contact with electrical ter minals.
6. If the sensing element has a compression ng, hand start the
ng. Using a suitable wrench, se cure the ng.
DO NOT overghten.
CONTROL WIRING
1. Disconnect electrical power to the unit.
2. DO NOT exceed the electrical rangs listed below.
3. The control’s terminals must not be eld bent, cut o or modied.
4. Allow some slack in the wire to prevent stressing of the switch.
Provide a drip loop in the wiring to prevent water from reaching
the control.
5. Secure wires to prevent damage from heat, sharp edges, moving
parts, vibraon, etc.
