3 Intended use
The device serves as a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The device offers special functions and
protocols for flexible use in IIoT applications to transmit process data, status and diagnostic
information between the automation level or also called operational technology level (OT) and the
information technology level (IT).
The device is designed as a control cabinet module for use in plant construction.
Permitted use:
• in industrial environments as a fixed device
• indoors

5.2 Ethernet ports
The device has 4 Ethernet ports.
The device is connected to the IT network structure via the ethernet ports eth0 and eth1. The ethernet
ports eth0 and eth1 operate in bridge mode. The Ethernet ports allow several devices to be connected
in series (daisy chain).
The device is connected to the OT network structure via the eth2 and eth3 Ethernet ports. The eth3
Ethernet port provides access to the device's IoT Core Visualizer.

The device has 2 USB ports (type A, USB 2.0). Additional devices can be connected via the USB
ports.

The device has a micro SD card interface.
Connecting micro SD cards via cable is not permitted.

5.5 Status LEDs
The device has 3 LEDs.
The LEDs show the current system status and indicate error states.
The functional scope of the LEDs can be extended by the system creator.
5.6 Voltage supply
The device is designed for operation with PELV voltages (Ò Technical data).
5.7 Programmable CODESYS RUNTIME
The device has a CODESYS RUNTIME to process freely programmable PLC applications. Details on
the scope of functions and available software components: Ò Programming manual
5.8 ifm IoT Core
The device has the ifm IoT Core. The ifm IoT Core represents the functionality of the device. The
functionality consists of a set of data, services and events. The elements of the ifm IoT Core are
arranged in a JSON object in a hierarchical tree structure. The ifm IoT Core makes these elements
available to the outside world via standard interfaces (e.g. HTTP) . This allows the user and other
devices to access data (parameters, process data), events and functions (services) of the device.

6 Installation
6.1 Install device
The housing of the device has the following holes:

This results in the following options for DIN rail mounting:

The device may only be mounted and operated on a grounded DIN rail. This ensures the
functional earth (FE) required for the operation of the device.
uDisconnect power before installation.
uFasten the DIN rail holder (Ò items supplied) onto the housing side of your choice using the 2
mounting screws. Max. torque: 1.7Nm.
uMake sure you are certain during assembly that the cooling fins of the mounted device run
vertically.
uMount the device on a 35mm DIN rail in a control cabinet (min. protection rating: IP54). The
control cabinet should be mounted in accordance with local and national regulations.
uLeave at least 50mm space between the device and the top or bottom of the control cabinet as
well as to adjacent devices to enable air circulation and to avoid inadmissible heating.

7 Electrical connection
7.1 General notices
The device must be connected by a qualified electrician.
uObserve the national and international regulations for the installation of electrical equipment.
The device contains components that can be damaged or destroyed by electrostatic discharge.
uPlease observe the required precautions against electrostatic discharge!
7.2 Ethernet ports (IT level)
The device is connected to the IT network level via the ethernet ports eth0 and eth1.
Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) is not supported. The connection of PoE components is not permitted.

uConnect the device to the IT network via a free Ethernet port.
uOptional: Connect the device with another device via a free Ethernet port.
uUse an RJ45 connector for the connection.
7.3 Ethernet ports (OT level)
The device is connected to the OT level via the eth2 and eth3 Ethernet ports.
Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) is not supported. The connection of PoE components is not permitted.

uConnect the device to the OT network via a free Ethernet port.
uUse an RJ45 connector for the connection.
7.4 USB ports
Additional USB devices can be connected with the device via ports usb0 and usb1.
Note the supported device types (Ò USB ports/9)!
The USB ports have overload protection.
The USB ports have short circuit protection.
Maximum cable length per port: 3m
Available sum currents on both USB ports for the supply of the connected devices: max. 1.5A

7.5 Voltage supply
The device is connected to the US supply voltage via the voltage connection.
Pin 0V of the voltage connection is directly connected with the metal housing.
Pin 0V of the voltage connection is connected via the DIN rail holder with the DIN rail.
uObserve the instructions on earthing the device in the chapter on installation!
The connection has reverse polarity protection.

8.2 Function keys
The device provides the following function keys:
• Boot Recovery
Using the boot recovery button, the user can start the device in recovery mode. In recovery mode,
various management functions can be performed (e.g. updating the device's firmware).
The Boot Recovery button is located on the left side of the device next to the service cover. The button
can be reached through the hole in the housing.

Notes on operation:
uUse the Boot Recovery button only if the regular update process fails.
uActivate the Boot Recovery button only with a non-conductive object (matchstick, etc.).
uActivate the Boot Recovery button with slight pressure only (max. 3N).
uPress and hold the boot recovery button only as long as necessary.

9 Set-up
Requirements:
üDevice is properly mounted.
üDevice is properly connected electrically.
uSwitch on the operating voltage of the device.
wThe device starts.
wThe status LEDs show the status of the device.
9.1 Getting started
The user can change the IP settings of the Ethernet interfaces of the device with the help of the ifm
IoT Core Visualizer.
Requirements:
üLaptop / PC connected with Ethernet port eth3.
uStart web browser.
uGo to the following URL: http://192.168.83.247:8090/browse
wUser interface of the ifm IoT Core Visualizer appears.
uSelect the [Parameter] > [Network] menu.
wThe [br0] structure shows the IP settings of the Ethernet bridge (eth0 and eth1).
wThe [eth0] structure shows the IP settings of the ethernet interface eth0.
wThe [eth1] structure shows the IP settings of the ethernet interface eth1.
wThe [eth2] structure shows the IP settings of the ethernet interface eth2.
wThe [eth3] structure shows the IP settings of the ethernet interface eth3.
uConfigure the IP parameters of the Ethernet interfaces.
uFor each interface: Click on to write the changed parameters to the device.
wThe changed parameters are stored on the device in a power-failure-proof manner.

10 Settings
10.1 Updating the system software
New versions of the system software are available at: documentation.ifm.com
uDownload new system software.
10.1.1 Updating the system software via IoT-Core Visualizer
The user can update the system software via the IoT-Core Visualizer.
Requirements:
üDevice has been started.
üLaptop / PC connected with Ethernet port eth3.
uStart web browser.
uGo to the following URL: http://<ip_eth3>:8090/browse (e.g. http://
192.168.83.247:8090/browse )
wUser interface of the ifm IoT Core Visualizer appears.
uSelect [Update] menu.
wMenu page shows information about the current firmware version.
uIn the [Firmware] area: Click on [Load software file].
wFile explorer appears.
uSelect new firmware version and click [Open].
uIn the [Firmware] area: Click on [Update].
wThe firmware of the device is updated.
wArea shows the progress of the update process.
wAfter successful update: The device starts automatically.
10.1.2 Updating the system software via USB port
Requirements:
üThe device is switched off.
uCopy the system software file (*.swu) to the root directory of the USB memory.
uEnsure that only one swu file is stored in the root directory of the USB memory.

uConnect the USB memory with a free USB port of the device.
uPress and hold the boot recovery button and connect the device to the supply voltage. Keep the
boot recovery button pressed until the status LED SYS flashes yellow.
wThe device starts.
wThe device detects system software file in the connected USB memory.
wThe status LEDs show the status of the device.
wThe device documents the update process in file rec.log in USB memory.
wAfter the update is complete, the device restarts automatically.
wNew system software is installed.

11 Troubleshooting
11.1 Status LEDs
The status LEDs signal the occurrence of errors and provide information about the cause of the error.
11.2 Resetting IP settings of the Ethernet ports
If the IP addresses of the Ethernet ports are lost, the user can reset the IP settings to the factory
settings.
Requirements:
üThe device is switched off.
üUSB memory is available.
uCreate the following file in the root directory of the USB memory: restorenetworksettings.txt
uConnect the USB memory to the USB port usb0 or usb1 of the device.
uConnect the device to the supply voltage.
wThe device starts.
wIP settings of the Ethernet ports are reset.
wThe device changes the name of the file on the USB memory to: restorenetworksettings.rdy
11.3 Deleting a faulty CODESYS project
If a faulty CODESYS boot project prevents the device from starting properly, the user can delete the
CODESYS project on the device.
Requirements:
üThe device is switched off.
üUSB memory is available.
uCreate the following file in the root directory of the USB memory: killbootapp.txt
uConnect the USB memory to the USB port usb0 or usb1 of the device.
uConnect the device to the supply voltage.
wThe device starts.
wThe CODESYS boot project will be deleted.
wThe device changes the name of the file on the USB memory to: killbootapp.rdy

12 Maintenance, repair and disposal
The device is maintenance-free with the exception of battery replacement.
12.1 Battery change
If the time is permanently out of adjustment after the device is turned on, the battery must be changed.

ATTENTION
The protection rating does not apply if the service cover is open and there is no ESD
protection of the accessible contacts inside
wDamage to the device possible.
uClean the area around the service cover before opening it.
uProtect the inside of the device against dirt and moisture.
uWhen changing the battery, take ESD precautions.
ATTENTION
The battery may fall inside the housing during the battery exchange.
wDamage to the device possible.
uPrevent the battery from falling inside the housing during the battery exchange.
uIf the battery does fall inside the housing, remove it from the device immediately.
uDisconnect the device from the supply voltage.
uFold up the service cover (orange) on the top of the device.
wBattery holder is visible.
uRemove battery and replace with new battery (battery type: CR1225).
uObserve polarity.
uFold down the service cover (orange).
uReset the system time.
12.2 Cleaning the housing surface
uDisconnect the device.
uClean the device from dirt using a soft, chemically untreated and dry cloth.
