Detecto 825CBW Continuous Bulk Weigher User manual

Type
User manual

Detecto 825CBW Continuous Bulk Weigher allows you to automatically weigh and record large amounts of material in consecutive batches called drafts, which are summed to provide a total weight at the end of the weighing cycle. Once a weighing cycle is complete, you can print a record of the gross, tare, and net weights for each draft, as well as the total weights for the cycle.

The 825CBW can be set up to operate in either "ship" or "receive" mode, and you can choose to enter the total weight and draft size, or the draft size and number of drafts required. The system will automatically fill the weigh hopper to the required draft weight, record the weight, and then discharge the completed draft into a lower garner. This process is repeated until the required amount of material has been delivered or received or the process is stopped by the operator.

I. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this manual is to provide information
describing the use, setup, operation and maintenance of the
Cardinal Model 825 CBW Continuous Bulk Weigher system. The
system is used to automatically weigh large amounts of
material by weighing them in individual drafts or
weighments then totaling the individual weights. The gross,
tare and net weights of each draft are recorded on the
printer.
Information covering the installation, calibration and use
of the Model 825 Weight Indicator is contained in the Model
825 PWI manual. A copy of this document is furnished with
the system and should be consulted for detailed information
concerning the use of the 825 PWI.
Information describing the use of the Cardinal P500 series
tape printer, including the loading of paper is contained
in the Printer Manual. This manual is also included with
the system and should be consulted for additional
information describing the printer.
II. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Cardinal Model 825 CBW is designed to control the flow
of material from a upper garner or hopper into a weigh-
hopper and from the weigh-hopper into a lower garner or
surge bin. This control is accomplished by activating the
discharge gates on the upper garner and the weigh-hopper.
Control of the flow of material into the upper garner and
out of the lower garner is accomplished by other controls
not provided with the Cardinal 825 CBW.
The system will accept either the total weight required
amount and draft size, or the draft size and number of
drafts required. The system will automatically deliver the
required amount of material by accurately filling the
weigh-hopper to the required draft weight, recording the
weight and then discharging the completed draft into the
lower garner. This process is repeated until the required
amount of material has been delivered or received or the
process is stopped by the operator.

III. SETUP
Several parameters must be set prior to operating the 825
CBW system. To get to the setup menu press the SETUP key on
the main screen. The main screen follows.
The CBW SETUP menu is shown after pressing the SETUP key.
TIMERS
This system uses a number of time delays to guard against
material outages and incorrect weight readings. Values for
these timers must be entered before operations begin. To
access these timer values, press the TIMERS key on the CBW
SETUP menu screen. The following screen will be displayed.
The “Fill Alarm” timer is the maximum length of time given
for a draft to complete its filling before an alarm is
issued to indicate no material flow. If, for example,
material flows at a rate which allows the weigh-hopper to
fill to the required draft weight in 45 seconds you may
wish to set the timer to 55 seconds. After 55 seconds has
elapsed and the weigh-hopper has not reached the required
draft weight an alarm will sound signaling the operator
that the system is either out of material or there is a
problem with the material transporting system. To change
the “Fill Alarm” time press the UP or DOWN navigation key
to highlight the “Fill Alarm” value and then enter the
desired time value.
The “Dump Alarm” time is the length of time required for
the weigh-hopper to discharge a completed draft of material
and return to a weight less than the zero cutoff weight
before turning on the alarm. The alarm serves to warn the
operator that material is either lodged in the weigh-hopper
or that there is a discharge gate malfunction. For example,
if it takes 15 seconds to fully discharge a completed
draft, you may wish to set the timer to 25 seconds. To
change the dump alarm time press the UP or DOWN navigation
key to highlight the “Dump Alarm” value and then enter the
desired time value.
The “Fill Settle” time is the length of time that is
allowed to pass after fill is complete and motion has
ceased and the time the weight is recorded. To change the
fill settle time press the UP or DOWN navigation key to
highlight the “Fill Settle” value and then enter the
desired time value.
The “Extend Dump” time is the length of time between
completion of a discharge of a draft from the weigh-hopper
and closure of the gate to the time when the empty weight
is stored and recorded. As with the settle timer, this
delay may have to be determined experimentally because it
is affected by the mechanical structure of the system. To
change the “Extend Dump” time press the UP or DOWN
navigation key to highlight the “Extend Dump” value and
then enter the desired time value.
When all of the time values are set as desired press the
ENTER key to store the values and return to the “Setup
Menu”. To cancel any changes press the SHIFT key and then
the /ESC key.
Zero Limit
The zero limit is a weight range used to approximate when
the scale is near 0 weight. If the zero limit is set to 50
lbs, then the zero range is from -50 to +50 lbs. Any time
the scale weight is within this range, the CBW system will
consider the scale to be close enough to zero to allow the
starting of weigh-hopper fill cycle or the completion of a
weigh-hopper dump operation. To enter the zero limit value,
press the ZERO LIMIT key. The display will show:
Enter desired weight value for “Zero Limit”. Press the
ENTER key to save the change and return to the “Setup
Menu”.
Trim Adjust.
The Trim Adjust. is the amount of additional material that
flows into the weigh-hopper after the upper garner or
hopper discharge gate is closed. This is sometimes referred
Page 4 of 28
to as material in suspension. This system is equipped with
an automatic adjustment of this amount. That is, if the
final weight is less than the required draft weight, the
system automatically decreases the TRIM weight which
increases the weight in the next draft. Likewise if the
final draft weight is more than the required draft weight,
the system automatically increases the TRIM weight
resulting in a decrease in weight on the next draft taken.
The value entered is only used on the initial draft or
weighment, which will be automatically adjusted by the
system as drafts are completed. Press the TRIM ADJUST key
and enter the initial value at the following screen.
Enter the desired weight value for the “Trim Adjustment”
and press the ENTER key to save the change and return to
the “Setup Menu”.
PRINT MODE
Press the PRINT MODE key to select the printer mode of
operation. The PRINT MODE will cycle through the available
modes of operation. If the PRINT MODE is “Normal” then the
total weights will be printed for each weighing cycle. If
the PRINT MODE is “Itemized” then the Gross, Tare and Net
weights will be printed for each draft, and then the total
weights will be printed for each weighing cycle.
The printer status is indicated on the main weight display
screen just above the START key. “Prt On” indicates that
the printer is on. “Prt Item.” indicates that an itemized
print out of the weights will be printed for each draft.
If no printer is connected or the printer is offline then
the status on the main weight display screen will be “Prt

Off”. If the printer is offline no filling operation may be
started.
