Thisuserguidedescribeshowtoinstall,connectandmaintainyour
HDDigitalRadomeAntenna.Themodelscoveredare:
RD418HD-18”4kWDigitalRadomeAntenna.
RD424HD-24”4kWDigitalRadomeAntenna.
Whenproperlyinstalledandoperated,theuseofthisradar
conformsto:
IEEEC95.1-2005-StandardforSafetyLevelswithrespectto
HumanExposuretoRadioFrequencyElectromagneticFields,
3kHzto300GHz.
ICNIRPGuidelines1998-InternationalCommissionon
Non-IonisingRadiationProtection:Guidelinesforlimiting
exposuretotime-varyingelectric,magneticandelectro-magnetic
elds(upto300GHz)1998.
TheHDDigitalRadomeAntennaisdesignedandmanufacturedto
meettherigorousdemandsofthemarineenvironment.However,
itmustbeinstalled,operatedandmaintainedproperly.Please
carefullyreadandfollowtherecommendedproceduresinthisuser
guide.

AfterttinganHDDigitalRadomeAntenna,i.e.beforeitisused,
youmustensurethatanyassociatedmulti-functiondisplay(MFD),
isusingthelatestsoftwareversion.

TochecktheMFDsoftwareversion,switchontheMFDandcheck
theversionnumberonthenavigationwarningscreen.Notethatifa
scannerisnotconnected,theversionnumberwillonlybedisplayed
for10seconds.

website,atwww.raymarine.com.Informationonhowtousethe
downloadtoupdatetheMFDsoftware,isalsoavailableonthe
Raymarinewebsite.Additionalsupportinformationisavailablefrom

EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarineequipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriate
ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulations,tominimize
electromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyour
system
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceis
notcompromised.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwherever
possible:
Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcables
carryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesandantennas.
InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreased
to7ft(2m).
Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradar
beamcannormallybeassumedtospread20degreesabove
andbelowtheradiatingelement.
Theproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatused
forenginestart.Thisisimportanttopreventerraticbehavior
anddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnothave
aseparatebattery.
Raymarinespeciedcablesareused.
Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedin
theinstallationmanual.
Note:Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventanyof
theaboverecommendations,alwaysensurethemaximum
possibleseparationbetweendifferentitemsofelectrical
equipment,toprovidethebestconditionsforEMCperformance

appropriatedigitalcable,asdescribedinsection2.7Cables.

Werecommendusingaconverterwithaminimum200Woutput
capacity.
Grounding
ThesegroundingrequirementsareapplicableforRaymarine
equipmentsuppliedwithaseparatedrainwireorscreen.
Theproductpowercabledrainconductor(screen)mustbe
connectedtoacommongroundpoint.
Itisrecommendedthatthecommongroundpointisabonded
ground,i.e.withthegroundpointconnectedtobatterynegative,
andsituatedascloseaspossibletothebatterynegativeterminal.
Ifabondedgroundsystemisnotpossible,anon-bondedRF
groundmaybeused.

Routingcables
Cablesmustberoutedcorrectly,tomaximizeperformanceand
prolongcablelife.
DoNOTbendcablesexcessively.Whereverpossible,ensurea
minimumbendradiusof100mm.

Connectingantenna
Ensuringthatthearrowonthedigitalcableconnectorisaligned
withtheredtriangularmarkontheHDDigitalRadomeAntenna
connector,connectthedigitalcabletotheconnectorontheHD
DigitalRadomeAntenna,andfullyhand-tighten.DoNOTusea
wrenchoranyothertool.
Note:Iftheantennaconnectorisdisconnectedafterinitial
installation,werecommendthatbeforereconnecting,youlightly
coattheconnectorthreadwithRenolitAqua2Calciumgrease.
Connectingsignal
Referringtotheconnectioninformationforthemulti-functiondisplay
(MFD)towhichyouareconnecting,andtotheTypicalsystems
diagramsgivenhere,connectthedigitalcablesignalconnector
totheappropriateMFD.
