Execscribe Transcriber
The Execscribe" transcriber (Models 1709 and
2709) features audible cue tones for locating
documents and instructions, fully adjustable auto
backspace, built-in erase, and a 3-digit tape
counter display. The transcriptionist can listen to
dictation either through a headset or the console
Speaker.
The Execscribe transcriber comes with a
Dictamatic@ foot control, a choice of headsets, an
AC power supply, a blank cassette and a dust
cover.
Setting Up
1.
Plug the foot control into the
FOOT
CONTROL jack
with the cable exiting toward the rear.
2. Plug the headset into the HEADSET jack
located on the right side of the machine.

Press the
ON
button on the desktop control
panel to turn on the unit. On LED Illuminates.
(To turn off power, press the ON button again.

Press CLEAR to reset the display.
Loading Cassette
1.
Press the EJECT button to open cassette com-
partment door.
2.
Insert tape with Side
1
up and exposed tape
toward you.
3.
Press down on cassette compartment door
until it latches.
Display
The tape counter display shows the total length
of dictation in minutes and tenths after a tape
has been scanned. While a tape is rew-inding,
bars move to the left on the tape counte'r. The
tape- counter counts down continuously while
transcribing is in progress. When all dictation
has been transcribed,

display.
Previewing Tape Contents
1.
Press the REWIND button on the control
panel
to
rewind the tape.
2.
Put on headset, or move the Speaker switch
on the console
to
ON position.
3.
Press the left FAST FORWARD pedal on the
foot control
to
scan the tape for letter and in-
struction cues.
Your transcriber will generate brief tones (a
single tone for letters, double tone for instruc-
tions). Release the FAST FORWARD pedal
and press the center PLAY pedal
to
listen
to
instructions.
4.
Continue fast forwarding until
00.0
appears on
the display.
5.
Press the right REWIND pedal to rewind the
tape.
Transcribing
1.
With the headset on, press the center PLAY
pedal on the foot control
to
hear playback and
begin transcribing. (Speaker switch must be in
OFF position.)
2.
Adjust the VOLUME, TONE and SPEED con-
trols located on lower front panel of unit and
the AUTO BACKSPACE control on the under-
side of unit.
3.
To stop playback, release the PLAY pedal.
To
rewind or fast forward (with audible feedback),
press the right REWIND or left FAST
FOR-
WARD pedal.
Auto Backspace
The Auto Backspace control, located on the
underside of the machine, permits you
to
hear
the last few words repeated each time you
release and re-activate the PLAY pedal on the
foot control:
Adjust the Auto Backspace control by rotating
the dial. The control can be set from a
minimum of zero words to a maximum of ap-
proximately ten words, which are repeated
each time you release and re-activate the
PLAY pedal.
Erase
To
erase a cassette:
Simultaneously press ERASE and REWIND
or
ERASE and FAST FORWARD buttons. (Red
Erase LED and appropriate green tape direc-
tion LEDs illuminate.)
Alert Tones
A continuous tone will sound
if
playback is at-
tempted under the following conditions:
No cassette loaded
Broken tape
No tape motion
A brief tone will sound when-

ON control is pressed and no cassette is
loaded
Beginning of tape is reached in Rewind or end
of
tape is reached in Fast Forward or Play
modes
