SRA EX9000 System Fan Installation
Guide
This document provides instructions for removing and installing
a replacement system fan module on your SonicWall SRA
EX9000 appliance.
Removing the System Fan from the SRA
Appliance
To remove an existing or defective system fan from the SRA
appliance:
1 There is no need to power down the appliance. With a
Phillips screwdriver, loosen the thumbscrews securing the
metal vent fan cover.
2 Locate the fan unit that needs to be replaced. Loosen the
screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
3 Pull the fan module straight out of the appliance, noting its
orientation, and set it aside.
Inserting the System Fan into the SRA
Appliance
To insert the new system fan module into the SRA Appliance,
perform the following steps:
1 Remove the new system fan module and the SonicWall
tamper-evident sticker from the replacement fan shipping
package.
2 Insert the fan module into the empty slot, using the same
orientation as you noted when you removed the defective
module.
3 Push the fan module firmly into place to properly seat the
electronic connectors.
4 Using a Phillips screwdriver, tighten the screws for the fan
module until it is snug.
5 Confirm that the new fan is operating correctly by verifying
that the Alarm LED on the front of the appliance is no longer
lit.
6 Replace the metal vent fan cover, and tighten screws until
snug.
7 Peel the backing off the silver SonicWall tamper-evident
sticker, and apply the sticker so that it adheres to both the
vented cover plate and the main chassis of the unit.
A Note Regarding the Tamper-Evident Sticker
The SonicWall silver sticker is a tamper-evident label and is
required for FIPS compliant mode.
After replacing the system fan, you must replace the tamper-
evident sticker in order for the unit to maintain its FIPS
classification.
