This operating manual provides important information
on handling the unit. It is an integral part of the product
and must be kept ready to hand in the immediate vicin-
ity of the unit. It must remain available throughout the
entire service life of the unit. It must be handed over to
subsequent owners or users of the unit.
Read the operating manual before starting any work on
or with the unit. This especially applies to the chapter
on safety. Always follow all instructions completely and
without restrictions.
It is possible that this operating manual may contain in-
structions that seem incomprehensible or unclear. In
the event of any questions or if any details are unclear,
contact the factory customer service department or the
manufacturer's local partner.
As this operating manual has been written for sever-
al unit models, always comply with the parameters that
apply to the respective model.
This operating manual is intended only for persons as-
signed to work on or with the unit. Treat all constituent
parts condentially. They are protected by copyright.

have read and understood the operating manual before
starting any work. This also applies if the person con-
cerned has already worked with such a unit or a similar
unit or has been trained by the manufacturer.
Every person who carries out work on the unit must
comply with the relevant local accident prevention and
safety regulations. This applies in particular to the wear-
ing of personal protective clothing.

Before opening the unit, disconnect the
system from the power supply and prevent it
from being switched back on!

General
THE FAN COIL
The GK (fan coil) has been designed for space air condi-
tioning and can be used for heating and cooling. A fan
passes the air over the heat exchanger, through which
hot or cold water ows.
The fan coils provide:

Three fan speed levels
·
A controller that is able to independently dier-
entiate between heating and cooling by means
of a temperature sensor in the lamellar heat ex-
changer, and can control the fan's operating
speed manually and automatically.
·
Room air cleaned by the intake lter
·
Digital thermostat with large, backlit LCD display
and many additional functions
·
2 point valve pre-installed in the factory for inter-
rupting the ow during standby
NOTE.
To achieve optimum operation of the fan coils it
is necessary to ensure that air can ow over the
whole surface of the heat exchanger.
NOTE.
The unit is protected against condensation.
Insulate feed, return ow and discharge on-site
so that they are vapour diusion tight.
IMPORTANT
The condensation trays should be checked for
dirt at least once a year (bacterial, germs and
mould growth caused by condensation pro-
duced) and if necessary cleaned.

Care of the unit
You can clean the outer surfaces of the unit with a damp
cloth and proprietary household cleaning products.
Do not use cleaning or care products that contain abra-
sives, acids and/or chlorine. Such products would irrep-
arably damage the surfaces and could also cause techni-
cal damage to the unit.

THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE
The inside of the unit consists of a zinc plated metal
sheet of 0.8 and 1 mm thick. On the back of the GK(R)
there are eyelets for xing the unit onto the wall.
The condensate collection tray can be dismantled sepa-
rately from the fan group for cleaning.
All components are insulated with reproof material.
THE HEAT EXCHANGER
The heat exchangers are made of aluminium lamellae,
which are xed onto copper tubes. The collection
devices have ½” GF connections. All heat exchangers are
subjected to leak testing up to 18 bar and are suitable
for a maximum operating pressure of 10bar.
The ribbed shape of the exchanger surface as well as the
counter ow of the heating and cooling uid compared
to the air ensure maximum eciency.
NOTE.
If the exchanger is operated with ow temper-
atures of < 18°C, condensation forms on the ex-
changer surface, which must then be removed
via a condensate line. This process removes
moisture from the room air (active cooling).

THE FILTER
The intake air lter, made of nylon (lter class G1), is xed
to the underside of the unit by a slide-in metal frame.
On the one hand this prevents dirt from getting into the
unit and on the other it lters the convection air and
blows it back out dust-free.

Regular cleaning of the lter helps to ensure op-
timum function of the unit.

THE COVERS
The covers are made of painted sheet metal or ABS plas-
tic. They are xed to the inside of the unit with screws
(standard colour, RAL 9010).
The convection grilles are also made of ABS plastic. In
order to achieve the best possible heat distribution in
the room, the lamellae determine the air direction.
On the sides of the convection grilles there are two aps,
on the one hand to provide access to the control panel
and the control box under it and on the other for diverse
hydraulic connections. The aps can be xed to the cov-
er using screws in order to prevent unauthorised access
(e.g. in schools, public places, etc.).
The re resistance class of the grilles and aps is UL94
HB.
FAN UNIT
The fan unit, consisting of a radial fan, electric motor
and a voltage transformer, is mounted on a baseplate,
with insulation to prevent structure-borne sound.
The motor (single-phase to 230V and 50 Hz) is equipped
with a capacitor and automatic thermal contactor (de-
gree of protection IP20).
The whole fan unit can be removed from the fan coil
easily and independently.
The following table gives the number of fans depending
on the models:

THE CONTROL BOX
Control (1) and terminal box (2) contain the TOP-2 con-
troller integrated in the side panelling.
The TOP-2 controller is pre-wired in the factory in the
plastic terminal box under it and does not have to be re-
moved during installation.
To move the boxes to the opposite side, the electrical
connections to the various components do not have to
be undone. A detailed description of how to move the
connections is also given in this operating manual.

NOTE.
There is no terminal box in the slave fan coil. The
electrical wiring is in the control box.
ADDITIONAL CONDENSATE TRAY
The additional tray is supplied as a standard with all fan
coils and is made of ABS plastic. It is mounted on the
side of the fan coil with screws and should collect the
condensate produced at the hydraulic connections and
drain it into the main tray.
After installing the tray, check it for leaks.
Installation
TO BE NOTED BEFORE INSTALLATION
All fan coils are delivered packed in a cardboard box.
The sticker on the outside of the packaging identies
the model, size, t of the water connections to the fan
coil and all accessory parts contained in the packaging.
To avoid damage or contamination of the heat exchang-
er, the unit should not be unpacked until immediately
before installation. To remove the packaging, open the
underside of the box and pull it o from above. Follow-
ing installation, it is advisable to cover the fan coil with
the packaging until all construction work has been com-
pleted. Do this as follows:

MOUNTING ON THE WALL
Before xing the unit onto the wall, check the following:
·
the wall must be suciently load-bearing;
·
the fan coil must be accessible on all sides for
maintenance;
·
there must be no hanging objects or other items
in front of the unit, which could impede the air in-
let or outlet;
·
air distribution must be possible in the whole
room.
Install the unit as follows:

NOTE.
Always maintain a minimum distance from the
wall at the side of 200 mm.
IMPORTANT
To ensure a correct air intake, the minimum
distance from the oor must be ≥ 200 mm.
NOTE.
Use the xings supplied with the unit for the in-
stallation. Special xings are required for light-
weight walls.

System accessories
ADJUSTABLE FEET FOR FLOOR INSTALLATION
GKF
The accessories consist of 4 parts: two support brackets
and two plastic elements, which extend the side proles
of the housing. The adjustable feet can be mounted on
all fan coils, among other things, to conceal electrical
cables and system pipes at the oor or on the wall as
well as the condensate drain. Unobstructed access to
the intake air lter must still be ensured.

The pump is used to dispose of condensate if the waste-

densate pump to the end of the condensate tray's
drain pipe...

Carry out the electrical connection work. To this
end, rstly, plug the control cable connector into
the condensate pump
Then feed the power cable through the cable duct
to the electrical switchbox on the other side of the
unit and connect the condensate pump as shown
in the terminal diagram.

IMPORTANT
After installing, securely close the cover of the
condensate pump.
Connections
WATER CONNECTION
To achieve maximum heat exchanger eciency, always
note and follow the manufacturer's data on the side of
the fan coil (ow / return on the heat exchanger).
Mixing up the water connections would not impair op-
eration, but reduces the heat exchanger eciency.
The water connections (½” internal thread) are welded
directly onto the coil. The recesses on the sides of the in-
ternal structure are designed to ensure that it is not pos-
sible for the connections to twist. To prevent damage
(e.g. twisting o the connections on the heat exchang-
er), it is important to screw in the supply pipes carefully.
To prevent unnecessary energy losses due to circulation
in standby, the ow rate at the fan coil is interrupted by
a 2 point valve, similar to underoor heating. As soon as
there is a need for heating or cooling, the valve opens
and re-releases the ow.
More information on this is given in the System Accesso-
ries section of this operating manual.
NOTE.
The installation package available as accessories
is required for the hydraulic connection to the
heating and/or cooling system.

Insulate all connections vapour diusion-tight in
accordance with the relevant local standards and
guidelines.

SUMMER/WINTER FUNCTION CHANGEOVER
(COOLING/HEATING)
The fan coil registers the feed temperature provided by
the heat pump via the feed temperature sensor integra-
ted in the lamellar heat exchanger in the factory. If hea-
ting or cooling is requested, the controller uses the feed
temperature to check whether the requested operating
mode is possible (dened by parameter P16 for heating
and P17 for cooling). If these temperatures are reached
the request can be serviced. If these temperatures are
not reached the process is repeated after the time inter-
val set in P45.
In addition, the controller provides the „Comfort“ func-
tion of preheating or precooling the lamellar heat ex-
changer until a required operating temperature is rea-
ched. Only then is the fan activated – in this way drau-
ghts can be avoided. This setting is activated in the fac-
tory for heating only and can optionally be dened for
cooling too using parameters P18 and P19
NOTE ON SUMMER/WINTER CHANGEOVER
FOR OPERATION WITH VERY LOW FEED
TEMPERATURES
The sensor integrated in the lamellar heat exchanger
can be aected during operation by the room air con-
trolled by the fan coil. If the feed temperatures available
and the set parameters P16 to P19 are very close toge-
ther (e.g. due to a very low heating curve or a combina-
tion of fan coils and underoor heating in the same he-
ating circuit), it is advisable to move the sensor position
to avoid operating faults. Proceed as follows:

Electrical connection
WIRING THE MOTOR
The circuit diagrams apply to all fan coil sizes.
DANGER!
Risk of fatal electric shock! Electri-
cal connection work is to be carried
out by qualied electricians only.
Before opening the unit, disconnect the sys-
tem from the power supply and prevent it
from being switched back on!
The motor of the GKR 5 - 20 units is a single phase motor
with only one rotational speed. This is controlled by the
transformer.
The transformer has a terminal strip with eight termi-
nals, with which the motor supply and the conductor for
controlling the operating speed are wired.

Operating several units
MASTER/SLAVE PRINCIPLE
ELMZ
The ELMZ is a unit for connecting several fan coils by ap-
plying the master/slave principle. The device consists of
three relays, one for each operating speed. The termi-
nal strips and the relays are mounted on a circuit board.
The max. power consumption of each motor must not
exceed 150W.

Commissioning
Check the following before switching on the fan coil:
The unit must be connected to the building's earth-
ing system and appropriate electrical protection el-
ements must be installed (automatic circuit break-
er)…
The condensate drain line must be in working order
(for cooling at ow temperatures below 18°C)
The air lter must be correctly installed
The air outlet side must not be blocked or impaired
in any way.
NOTE.
Vent the lines before starting up the system!
All heat exchangers are equipped with a vent valve. The
vent plug is located on the left above the return connec-
tion of the heat exchanger.
OUTLET GRILLE AND FIXING THE COVERS
The grilles are latched into place on the unit. They only
have to be lifted up to remove them.
The fan coils are delivered with forward-facing venti-
lation slots made in the factory.. If the grille is rotated
through 180°, the air outlet switches from the front to
the rear.
For units in public places such as schools, libraries, shop-
ping centres, etc, it is possible to block access to the
switch box and the water connections with the help of
a screw.

MOVE THE SUPPLY CONNECTIONS
The structural circumstances on site may require the
supply connection side to be moved. In this case, pro-
ceed as follows:
Dismount the 2 point valve on the heat exchanger
Remove the temperature sensor in the heat ex-
changer and later guide it to its original position
from the opposite side.
Undo the retaining screws of the control box and
screw them into the openings provided on the op-
posite side. It is not necessary to open or discon-
nect the control box…
Undo the retaining screws of the terminal box and
use self-tapping screws to x it to the other side.,
Dismantle the access panels of the heat exchang-
ers…

Undo the screws in the heat exchanger and remove
the heat exchanger
Break through the penetrations provided on the
side, rotate the coil through 18, feed the connec-
tions through the exposed recesses and re-tighten
the heat exchanger screws
Use sealing tape to close the previous openings…
Install the 2 point valve on the opposite side
Re-fasten the previously removed access panels...
If necessary, move the condensate drain to the
other side. Tightly seal old penetrations…
If necessary, install the additional condensate tray
(3) on the other side. Tightly seal old penetration.

Maintenance
REMOVING AND CLEANING THE FILTER
To ensure proper eciency of the fan coil it is necessary
to check the lter for dirt at regular intervals and if nec-
essary to clean it.
NOTE.
In case of continuous operation the lter should
be cleaned once a month.
The lter can be cleaned carefully using a domestic vac-
uum cleaner or, in the case of heavy dirt and dust accu-
mulations, it can be washed out using lukewarm water
and a neutral cleaning agent.
It is removed from all models in the same way. To re-
move, push the rear upwards. This places both guide
rails in a sloped position and the lter can be removed
from the front.
NOTE.
The lter must be completely dry before it can
be placed back in operation.
Do not operate the fan coil without the intake
lter, as this causes the components to become
dirty (fan, heat exchangers) and may cause con-
taminated air to be blown out.
DISMANTLING THE FAN UNIT
The whole fan unit can be removed easily by undoing
both retaining screws in the sides of the fan coils and
pulling the unit out of its bracket.

REPLACING THE MOTOR
MOTOR WITH ONE FAN IMPELLER GK... 6, GK... 11:
Proceed as follows:
Undo the stop screw of the fan impeller connected
to the motor shaft (using an Allen key with a su-
ciently long shank)...
Remove the screws with which the motor is xed to
the housing
Remove the motor.
MOTOR WITH TWO FAN IMPELLERS GK... 21:
Proceed as follows:
Undo the stop screw of the fan impellers connect-
ed to the motor shaft (using an Allen key with a suf-
ciently long shank)...
Unscrew the housing from the fan unit bracket
Pull the fan impellers and the housing o the motor
shaft…
Remove the motor from the fan unit's support
brackets.
CLEANING THE CONDENSATE TRAYS
CAUTION.
The condensate trays should be checked for
dirt at least once a year (bacteria, germs and
mould growth) and if necessary cleaned.
Dismantling
DANGER!
Risk of fatal electric shock!
Electrical connections may be installed only
by qualied electricians.
Before opening the unit, disconnect the sys-
tem from the power supply and secure it
from being switched back on!
WARNING!
Only qualied electrical technicians may dis-
connect the unit from the mains system and
de-install all electrical connections.
WARNING!
Only qualied heating or cooling system per-
sonnel may dismantle the unit from the sys-
tem.
IMPORTANT
Ensure the unit components are reused/recy-
cled or properly disposed of in accordance with
the relevant regulations, standards and direc-
tives.
