Aerosoft Graz FSDG is a highly detailed scenery that brings the second most important airport of Austria into Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Prepar3D. The scenery features the huge main runway (35C/17C) and two additional grass runways (35L/17R, 35R/17L) which are mostly used by GA aircraft and gliders. All runways feature realistic AI traffic patterns and are fully compatible with all default FSX/P3D aircraft. Surrounding the main runway you will find plenty of static aircraft including historic models that are exhibited at the aviation museum.

INTRODUCTION
For more than 5 years we at FSDG developed several airport sceneries of popular and famous holiday
destinations like Sharm El-Sheikh, Heraklion, Djerba or the Seychelles. In that time we received lots of
positive feedback for those detailed and realistic airports but we were often asked why we always seem
to ignore Central Europe where most of the FlightSim community lives. Maybe it was because when we first
started with flight simulators back in our days we most enjoyed visiting places we've never been to in real
life. Today a lot of FlightSim users want to take off from the airports they know best just because they live
close to it or fly there regularly in real life. We know there's a big FlightSim community in Austria so it was
about time to create a good airport scenery of one of the international airports of Austria. Since Wien and
Innsbruck already have some good FSX sceneries we chose Graz Thalerhof, the second most important
airport of the country following Wien-Schwechat. It took us almost 2 years to finish this scenery from early
project planning to release and we think it was worth the wait. Night lighting, interior modeling, seasonal
variations, animations, AI traffic compatibility the visual and technical quality of this scenery is probably
our best work yet. We truly believe it's as close to reality as it gets in a flight simulator. In any case we're
sure you will enjoy every single landing here in one of the most beautiful cities of Austria!

RUNWAYS 35L/17R & 35R/17L AND AI TRAFFIC
Additional to the main runway (35C/17C) Graz features two grass strips left and right of the main runway.
Both can be used by the user as well as AI traffic. Runway 35L/17R is mostly used for gliding, parachuting
and small GA activity while runway 35R/17L is used by GA aircraft parked on the south apron GA parkings,
but also by the 'Luftrettung' helicopter based at the new yellow hangar south of the aviation museum.
In order for FSX/P3D AI traffic to use all 3 runways in a realistic fashion we needed to assign different ICAO
codes (LOWG/LOG1/LOG2) to all runways and assign unique parking spots to each of them. We included
traffic files for default FSX/P3D aircraft to make plenty of use of all runways so you should have quite a lot
of GA traffic and touch-and-go's on both grass runways.
You can use all 3 runways as well. Just make sure you select LOG1 or LOG2 in the aircraft / AirTraffic menu if
you want to use runways 35R/17R or 35L/17R.
If you have any questions on how to use the runways or want to know more about the technical details on
how/why AI aircraft use different runways don't hesitate to contact us or post on our support forum (see
above).
MILITARY AREA AND AVIATION MUSEUM
Another curiosity (apart from the three runways) at Graz Thalerhof is the former military base in the west
of the airport. It was closed 2008 and can't be accessed via the still existing taxiway Y because of the fence.
You can still take a look at the huge hangars and facilities for the Eurofighter jets that were based here for
several years.
At the eastern part of the airport, between the maintenance hangars and the Luftrettung hangar you can
easily spot the aviation museum (Österreichisches Luftfahrtmuseum) with a considerable collection of
historic aircraft. We included most of the models in the scenery like the Saab 29, the Mirage III, the famous
Antonov An-2 or the huge Transall C-160. Just like the real aircraft you will not be able to fly them, though.

FSX SETTINGS
In order to change your scenery settings, first run FSX and then go to Settings -> Display
Note that these settings will influence the quality of the scenery. The higher the settings the more details
will be visible. But keep in mind that frame-rate and overall performance might decrease depending on
your PC system.
We suggest trying these settings to get the best visual results in FSX:

TEXTURE RESOLUTION
This add-on makes use of 2048x2048 textures to give the best possible resolution of ground textures. By
default, FSX does not load 2048 textures with their highest resolution. To overcome this, simply navigate to
your FSX.CFG and make the necessary changes.
For Windows Vista and Win7 (and later) the file can be found by the following steps:
1) Press start menu and type in the search box: %appdata%
2) Open the following folders: Microsoft FSX
3) Find FSX.cfg and open it with Notepad
4) Press Ctrl+F to search the text.
5) In the search box, type: TEXTURE_MAX
6) Once you find the line: TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024’, change it to TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048’
(or 4096 if needed)
7) Save the file
8) Start FSX
BE AWARE
Due to the way FSX handles the FSX.CFG, texture resolution will revert back to default (1024) every time
you change any of your FSX display settings. Therefore, you should go back and check that full texture
resolution is supported in the FSX.CFG before starting FSX. If you're inexperienced with these things, don't
worry. You can just keep the default texture load size (1024) and still use the add-on with detailed ground
textures.
Useful Tip: If you are happy with your display settings and have made the necessary FSX.cfg editing,
you can now save a user configuration of the settings. The TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048 entry will be saved
in that configuration file too. In the future, whenever you choose this saved configuration, even when FSX is
still running, you will be sure that you are using the highest texture resolution without worrying whether
FSX has reverted back to default settings . This way, you don't need to exit FSX, edit the FSX.CFG and reload
FSX.

SCENERY CONFIGURATOR (FSX/P3D)
FSDG-Graz offers switchable items via the FSDG Scenery Configurator.
The Configurator is automatically installed at the end of the scenery installation. If not you can always get
the Configurator in the free Tools’ sections of our webshop: http://fsdg-online.com
For additional help, please refer to the Configurator Help manual, which can be accessed direclty via the
FSDG scenerye configurator tool, or contact us for additional support.
Scenery Features:
Each option comes with a description in the description
box, explaining the visual and performance impact it has.
Since this scenery should give fluid framerates on almost
every PC there should be no need to disable the 2 items.
Use the Global Settings tab to control seasonal textures.
This is important since ground and building textures (like
snow-covered roofs) do not switch automatically!

F.A.Q.
Q: Is this add-on DX10 compatible? (FSX)
A: The scenery is compatible with DX10, in combination with SteveFX DX10 fix
(more info here: https://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/how-to-purchase/)
Q: Is this add-on P3D compatible?
A: Yes, you can use FSDG-Graz with Prepar3D V3.
Q: Is this add-on compatible with other add-ons including Austria Pro, UTX, FTX or FS Global?
A: There should be no problem with any other add-on.
Q: The scenery library is not updated automatically on installation of the add-on. How can I fix this?
A: If you use Windows Vista or Windows 7 (or later) you are strongly advised to start the setup as
administrator (right-click and “run as administrator”) and disable the User Account Control.
Reinstall the add-on to make sure the setup added the FSDG-Graz scenery area to the scenery
library of FSX/P3D.
Q: I have technical problems with installing or running this add-on. Can you help me?
A: Yes! Please contact us at http://forum.flightsimdevelopmentgroup.com/
Q: There seem to be issues with the airport lighting at day/night transitions. Is this normal?
A: No but it isn't curable. FSX sometimes has its own ways of switching day/night textures. If you
face any texture or scenery problems, open the scenery library and click OK (or use the "refresh
scenery" shortcut) to reload scenery and textures.
