Gill VERSACOM BOX-TURF VERSIONS Operating instructions

  • Hello, I'm here to help you with your Gill Communication Box Assembly. I've reviewed the provided document with instructions for the F960 and F970 models. These boxes are designed for artificial turf fields and feature infill retainment brushes. I can answer questions about installation, drainage considerations, and more.
  • What are the F960 and F970 boxes designed for?
What is the purpose of the brushes on the lid and cover?
What is the recommended way to ensure proper drainage?
What is the approximate height of the box?

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
The F960 and F970 electrical communication connection boxes (VersaCom Boxes) are
designed to be used on artificial turf fields. Brushes on the lid and cover collect turf infill
preventing it from falling into the box.
Drainage is key when installing the open bottom communication box. The box should be placed
on a well-drained substrate. If it is away from the well-drained substrate a solid concrete bottom
with a drainage pipe should be included to prevent standing water.

Set a concrete brick in a stiff patty of mortar under each corner of the box. The height of the box is
14” plus roughly 3/4" for the leveling bolts. The top of the bricks should be set to allow the top of the
box to lay flush with the bottom of the turf. Position the box on the corner bricks and then level the
PLACEMENT:
CONCRETE:
Place the mortar around the outside and inside corners of the box for support. Make sure to cover
the bottom inside corners with mortar to secure the adjustor bolts in their final position. This will
physically lock the box into place. The entire box does not need to be surrounded by concrete.
However, it is recommended that a small amount of concrete be poured around the outside bottom
of the box to help maintain its position and strength throughout its use at the facility.

F90010 RISER:
If the F90010 riser is being installed, add another 14” of the depth from the top of the brick. To
install the riser, remove the adjuster bolts from the corners and stack the F960 or F970 on top of
the riser. The holes in the bottom gussets and the top gussets of the riser should be aligned. Place
the adjuster bolts through the aligned holes and tighten down with the provided nut. Place the
assembled unit on the corner bricks and level the rim using the adjuster bolts in the bottom of the
riser.

extra turf that extends beyond the angle. Then trim the corners so that the turf is not overlapped and
is lying in a single layer. Make sure that the turf is tucked tightly into the corners.
Place the clamping bars on top of the turf so that the turf is sandwiched between the angle and the
clamping bar. With an awl or screwdriver, puncture the turf through the aligned holes in the
clamping bar and angle and insert the bolts and nuts and tighten.
Turf Cover:
After backfilling, wrap the turf from the surrounding field over the rim of the box. Pull the turf
straight down into the box and then lay it horizontally across the inside angle (L shape). Cut off the
Turf Finish:
Finish installation by bonding turf to the lid and covers. Clean aluminum plates before beginning.
Use a high strength weather resistant self-curing urethane adhesive. Apply an epoxy primer before
using the adhesive to improve the bond. Apply adhesive to both the turf and the aluminum plates.
Cut out hand holes for the covers to sit into the lid.
