Chapter 6 Hardware Maintenance
Caution:
The power modules of the S7502 are hot-swappable.
When installing or replacing an in-service power module, pay attention to operations
and electrical safety. Do not touch any naked wire, terminal or any part of the product
labeled with a high-voltage warning to avoid injury.

6.2.1 Installing a Power Module
1) Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and take the new power module out of the
package. Check that the input mode (DC or AC) of the power module is correct.
2) Grasp the handle of the module with one hand and hold the module bottom with
the other. Slide the module slowly along the guide rail into the chassis. See in
Figure 6-1. Ensure the module is well contacted with the guides.

Caution:
z Note the direction of the power module. When you insert the power module, let the
side with the label face upward.
z To avoid breaking or cranking the power terminals, slide the module gently into the
slot. If the module is not properly aligned, slide it out and insert it again.
Step 3: Fasten the captive screws to fix the power module on the chassis. See in
Figure 6-1.
Caution:
If the captive screws cannot be fastened, check whether the power module is properly
seated.
6.2.2 Removing a Power Module
The removal process of power module is opposite to the installation process:
1) Loose the captive screws on the power module.
2) Slide out the power module to be replaced.
Caution:
z Since the power module of the S7502 is heavy, you are recommended to grasp the
handle of the power module with one hand and hold the bottom with the other while
pulling out a power module slowly.
z If you are not going to install a new power module after removing a power module,
you should install a blank panel for the heat dissipation and dust-proof purpose.
6.3 Removing and Installing Cards
SRPU and LPUs of the S7502 can be installed and removed in a similar way. This
section describes the general procedures for installing and removing these cards.
The LPUs of the S7502 are hot-swappable.

6.3.1 Installing a Card
1) Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and loose the captive screws on the blank
panel on the slot, where the card should be inserted.
2) Hold the ejector levers on the card with both hands and pull them outward. Slide
the card into the slot along the guides. Push the card until the positioning pin on its
handle touches the hole in the chassis. See in
Figure 6-2.
3) Press the ejector levers inward and seat the pin on the handle bar into the
positioning hole in the chassis. See in
Figure 6-2.
4) Fasten the captive screws to fix the card. See in
Figure 6-2.
Note:
Put away the removed blank panel for future use.
6.3.2 Removing a Card
The procedure for removing a card is opposite to the installation procedure.
1) Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and loose the captive screws on the card
with a Philips screwdriver.
2) SHold the ejector levers on the card with both hands and pull them outward to
separate the connectors of the card from the backplane.
3) Gently slide the card along the guides out of the slot.

6.4 Removing and Installing Fan Tray
Caution:
Do not touch any naked wire, terminal or any part of the product labeled with a
high-voltage warning to avoid bodily injury.

Figure 6-3 Install a fan tray
1) Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and loose the captive screws on the fan tray.
Caution:
If you want to replace the fan tray of an in-service switch, separate the fan tray from the
backplane to disconnect the power and wait till the fan stops rotating before pulling it
out completely. Considering that the fan may be still rotating, avoid stretching your
hands into the fan tray.
2) Slide the fan tray out of the slot.
3) Put the removed fan tray into the package.
4) Take out a new fan tray from the package. Slide the fan tray along the guides into
the slot until the frame is seated in the backplane of the switch.
5) Fasten the captive screws.

Caution:
Install a new fan tray soon after removing the old one to ensure that the switch can work
normally.
6.5 Installing the Mounting Brackets and Cable Management
Bracket
Two mounting brackets and a cable management bracket are shipped with the S7502.
Take the following steps to install the mounting brackets and cable management
bracket:
1) Face the LPU slots of the switch.
2) Attach the shipped left and right mounting brackets onto the left and right sides of
the chassis, respectively.
3) Install the shipped cable management bracket onto the left side (opposite to the
fan tray) of the chassis, as shown in
Figure 6-4.
