NOTE: The default setting of the
SwitchView DVI switch is appropriate for
most systems. You do not need to configure
the switch before installation. You should
turn off your computers before beginning
installation.

Connecting power
Connect AC power to the SwitchView DVI
Dual-Head (DH) or Single-Head (SH) switch.
CAUTION: When connecting a monitor to the
local port, turn on power to your switch before
booting up the targets.

Connecting your peripherals
Connect your keyboard, monitor(s) and mouse
into the console connectors on the rear of your
SwitchView DVI switch.

Connecting your computers
Connect each of your computers to the
SwitchView DVI switch using the DVI-I video
cable, USB cable (Type A to Type B) and audio
and mic cables provided.

Turning on your system
Turn on the connected computers. The front
panel LEDs indicate PC port status.
For KVM connections:
• LEDnotlit=Targetdeviceisnotturnedon
or selected.
• Green=Targetdeviceisturnedon,butnot
selected.
• Amber=Targetdeviceisselected.
For USB connections:
• LEDnotlit=Targetdevicenotselected.
• On(constant)=Targetdeviceisselected.
NOTE: The SwitchView DVI switch supports
digital video resolutions up to 2560 x
1600 @ 60 Hz and also supports analog
resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz.
Upgrading your firmware (optional)
The SwitchView DVI switch series allows you
to optionally upgrade your system with current
firmware files when available from Avocent.
Connecting the serial port
Plug the DB-9 to RJ-45 adaptor (included) into
the console serial port. Connect one end of the
RJ-45 cable into the adaptor and connect the
other end into the RJ-45 port on the rear panel
of your SwitchView switch.

To configure the serial port:
Set the terminal program as follows to configure
your serial port for a firmware upgrade:
Speed (baud) - 115200
Data bits - 8
Stop bits - 1
Parity - none
Flow control - none
To upgrade your firmware:
a.Gotowww.avocent.com/updatesand
download the appropriate firmware file.
b. Select the Transfer pull-down menu
located on the toolbar on the top of your
screen.
c. Ensure that Protocol Xmodem is
selected.
d. Select Send File.
e. Browse your computer for the
downloaded firmware file.
f.Openthermwareupgradeleand
select Send.
g. After the upgrade is complete, press the
spacebar to reset your KVM switch.
h. Verify the upgrade version showing on
your screen.
Operating the SwitchView DVI switch
You can control the SwitchView DVI switch for
PCandUSBhubportcontrol,aswellasaudio/
mic channel selection, scan and scan interval
time by using front panel push-buttons or a
hotkey sequence.

commands and front panel button usage can be
found on the following page.
Hotkey sequence
Hotkey commands allow you to access and
control certain features of your SwitchView
switch via the local keyboard. The default
preceding hotkey sequence is Ctrl + Ctrl.
Front panel buttons
The front panel push-buttons provide direct
control over KVM channel switching by pressing
the PC button for PC port switching. If binding
isenabledbetweenPC/USBhubportcontrol
andaudio/micswitching,theywilljointlybe
selected simultaneously.

NOTE: ACT keys are your defined activation keys. As a result, ACT1 + ACT2 means you should press your activation key twice in sequence. The default
activation key is Ctrl, meaning Ctrl + Ctrl is the default preceeding sequence for all hotkey commands.
