IMPORTANT - PRIOR TO USING JACK, READ AND UNDER- JACK OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
STAND JACK OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS A, B AND C DE-
TAILED AT RIGHT. ALSO,READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL A. TO RAISE - MOVE REVERSING LEVER TO UP POSITION.
SAFE OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY PRE- SELECT THE APPROPRIATE SOCKET AND INSERT LEVER
CAUTIONS OUTLINED ON THE REVERSE SIDE. MAKE SURE THAT BAR ENGAGES FULL DEPTH OF SOCKET.
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEDURES, AS APPLICABLE. GRIP THE LEVER BAR MAKE UP AND DOWN STROKES, EX-
ERTING FIRMLY AND COMPLETE A CONTROLLED
DOWNWARD FORCE EACH STROKE, AND ASSURE PAWL ENGAGE-
REFERENCE DOCUMENTS: MENT PRIOR TO EACH STROKE REVERSAL.
1. OSHA ACCIDENT PREVENTION MANUAL FOR
INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS – JACKS.
CAUTION - AFTER EACH DOWN STROKE, GRADUALLY RE-
2. OSHA GENERAL INDUSTRY STANDARDS – JACKS. LEASE THE DOWNWARD FORCE ON THE LEVER BAR TAKING
3. ANSI B30.1 SAFETY STANDARDS FOR JACKS. CARE THAT THE HOLDING PAWL HAS ENGAGED AND THE
LEVER IS FREE OF LOAD PRIOR TOCOMPLETING THE UPWARD
STROKE. SHOULD THE LEVER BE RELEASED WHILE UNDER
LOAD, IT WILL SUDDENLY “KICK UP”, PRE-SENTING A PERSONAL
INJURY HAZARD.
B. TO LOWER – MOVE THE REVERSING LEVER TO THE DOWN
POSITION, INSERT THE LEVER BAR AS DETAILED IN INSTRUC-
TION (A). GRIP THE LEVER FIRMLY AND EXERT A CONTROLLED
DOWNWARD FORCE MAKING UP AND DOWN STROKES. COM-
PLETE EACH STROKE AND ASSURE PAWL ENGAGEMENT PRIOR
TO EACH STROKE REVERSAL.
CAUTION – THE DOWN STROKE RELEASES THE RETAINING
PAWL AND TRANSFERS THE LOAD HANDLE FORCE TO THE LEVER
BAR IN THE OPERATORS HANDS. THE LEVER MUST
BE ALLOWED TO RAISE SLOWLY BY EXERTING A CONTROLLED
DOWNWARD FORCE THROUGHOUT THE UP STROKE. SHOULD
THE DOWNWARD FORCE BE RELEASED BEFORE COMPLETION
OF THE UP STROKE, THE LEVER WILL SUDDENLY “KICK UP”,
PRESENTING A PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD.

SAFE OPERATING PROCEDURES & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
1. PRIOR TO USE, THE OPERATOR SHOULD BE INSTRUCTED BY A QUALIFIED PERSON IN THE SAFE AND PROPER USE OF
THE JACK FOR ANY SPECIFIC APPLICATION.
NOTICE: TEMPLETON, KENLY & CO. MAKES NO WARRANTY THAT THE JACKS COVERED BY THIS DOCUMENT ARE SUITABLE
OR ANYGENERAL OR PARTICULAR USE OTHER THAN CABLE REEL LIFTING OR POSITION OF THESE AND ANY TYPE SPECIFIED, AND
THE USER ASSUMES ALL LIABILITY ARISING THEREFROM.
2. IN ADDITION TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE STANDARDS SET FORTH BY ANSI B30.1CHAPETER 1-2, AND 1-3, ALL JACKS SHOULD
BE EXAMINED BY A QUALIFIED PERSON PRIOR TO EACH USE FOR INSTRUCTION LABLES, WARNING LABELS, DAMAGE, PROPER
LUBRICATION AND WEAR. THE JACKS SHOULD BE OPERATED THROUGH ONE COMPLETE TRAVEL CYCLE PRIOR TO APPLICA-
TION OF LOAD TO VERIFY THAT ALL MECHANISMS PROPERLY FUNCTION AND THE JACKS ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION.
NEVER USE A JACK THAT IS DAMAGED, IMPROPERLY LUBRICATED, OR MALFUNCTIONING. JACKS THAT FAIL INSPECTION MUST
BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE UNTIL REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED AGENCY.
3. SIMPLEX JACKS ARE LOAD RATED IN PAIRS. CONSULT DECAL AND VERIFY THAT CAPACITY AND TRAVEL IS SUITABLE FOR
THE LOAD. IF UNABLE TO CALCULATE THE LOAD EXACTLY, SELECT A PAIR OF JACKS WITH GREATER CAPCITY THAN THE
ESTIMATED LOAD ALLOWING A LARGE MARGIN OF SAFETY.
4. PLACE THE PAIR OF JACKS ON A FIRM FOUND FOUNDATION MAKING SURE THAT THE JACKS ARE EVENLY AND RIGIDLY SUPPORTED
AT THE BASE AND PROPERLY ALIGNED PERPENDICULAR TO THE LOAD. ALSO BE SURE THAT THE JACKS
ARE PROPERLY ALIGNED AT THE LIFTING POINT SUPPORTED IN A MANNER THAT THE JACKS CANNOT SLIP OR THE LOAD
CANNOT SHIFT.
5. USE THE SIMPLEX LEVER BAR RECOMMENDED FOR THE SPECIFIC JACK MODEL. THE LEVER BAR TO BE USED SHOULD NOT
EXCEED THE LENGTH SPECIFIED ON THE JACK DECAL. LEVER BAR EXTENDERS ARE NOT TO BE USED.
6. THE OPERATORS SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA IS CLEAR OF PERSONNEL AND OBJECTS OBSTRUCTING WORKING
SPACE REQUIRED TO SAFELY ACTIVATE THE JACK LEVER IN BOTH THE UP AND DOWN MODE.
7. THE OPERATORS HEAD AND BODY SHOULD BE POSITIONED TO ONE SIDE OF THE LEVER IN A MANNER TO PREVENT SERIOUS
INJURY SHOULD A SUDDEN MOVEMENT IN THE LOAD CAUSE THE LEVER TO “KICK UP”,
8. PRIOR TO OPERATING THE JACK TO RAISE THE LOAD READ OPERATING INSTRUCTION (A) ON THE REVERSE SIDE. LIFT THE
LOAD EVENLY AND OBSERVE THE LOAD DURING OPERATION TO WATCH FOR POSSIBLE SHIFTING OF THE LOAD OR CONDI-
TONS THAT COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTAL DISLOCATION OF JACK.
9. CAUTION: DO NOT LIFT HUMAN CARGO. DO NOT ALLOW PERSONNEL ON OR UNDER THE LOAD.
10. DO NOT EXCEED THE JACK TRAVEL SHOWN ON THE DECAL OR CONTINUE TO APPLY LEVER FORCE TO EXTEND THE JACK
AFTER STOP CONTACT HAS OCCURRED. NEVER KICK, JUMP ON, STAND ON OR STRADDLE THE LEVER BAR. DO NOT STRIKE
WITH A HAMMER OR FORCE THE LEVER IN A ROCKING MOTION. SUCH ACTIONS CREATE A PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD. THE
JACK COULD BECOME DISLODGED CAUSING THE LOAD TO DROP. JACK WORKING PARTS COULD ALSO BECOME DAMAGED
AND FAIL.
11. AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION, REMOVE THE LEVER BAR FROM THE SOCKET AFTER LIFTING IS COMPLETE AND WHEN JACKS ARE NOT
IN OPERATION. ACCIDENTALLY STRIKING AN UNATTENDED LEVER BAR PROJECTING FROM THE SOCKET COULD DISLOCATE OR
DISLODGE THE JACK CAUSING THE LOAD TO DROP. UNATTENDED LEVER BARS CAN PRESENT A TRIP HAZARD.
12. IMPORTANT: PRIOR TO RATCHETING THE JACK TO LOWER THE LOAD, READ OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS B ON THE REVERSE SIDE.
OPERATOR SHOULD FOLLOW PROCEDURE (7) ABOVE AND TAKE PRECAUTIONS THAT ALL PERSONNEL AND PARTS OF THE HUMAN
BODY ARE CLEAR OF THE LOAD BEFORE LOWERING.
MAINTENANCE & LUBRICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. COMPLY WITH PROCEDURE #2 ABOVE AND THE REQUIREMENTS OF ANSI B30.1, CHAPTER 1-2 AS DETERMINED FROM USE, EXPERI-
ENCE OR AS SPECIFIED BY A QUALIFIED PERSON OF AUTHORITY.
2. KEEP JACK CLEAN, FREE OF GRIT, AND IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION, REPLACE WORN, DAMAGED OR MISSING LABLES.
3. LUBRICATE RACK BAR WITH #2 GRAPHITE GREASE EXCEPT ON TOOTH SIDE.
4. LUBRICATE PERIODICALLY AT POINTS MARKED WITH (*) ASTERISK (SEE REVERSE SIDE) WITH A GOOD GRADE OF SAE 20
WT. OIL CONTAINING GRAPHITE – AVOID LUBRICATION OF THE TOOTH SURFACE OF PAWLS AND RACK BAR.
