Information about the product
Description of the product
Chlamydia is a group of bacteria, intracellular parasites of eukaryotic cells. Chlamydophila abortus is a species with a tropism for the
placenta of ruminants (cattle, sheep, and goats) and is responsible for abortion and neonatal mortality. More rarely, this species has
been suspected in cases of abortion in mares, carnivores, rabbits, hogs, mice, and guinea pigs.
The Applied Biosystems™ VetMAX™ C. abortus Kit enables detection of the coding sequence for the outer membrane protein (ompA),
specific to Chlamydophila abortus as well as an endogenous IPC present in all samples from cattle, small ruminants (sheep, goats) and
wild ruminants.
Each DNA sample obtained after extraction is analyzed in a single well: the same well is used for specific detection of the bacterial
DNA of Chlamydophila abortus and an IPC (Internal Positive Control). A positive IPC reflects both the efficiency of extraction and the
absence of inhibitor in the samples.
It can be used on bacterial DNA extracted from the placenta, swabs (placental, vaginal, cervical), fetal fluid, and vaginal mucus. For
these matrices, it can be used on individual samples.
Complete protocols for bacterial DNA extraction from these matrices are available on request from Technical Support.
Kit contents and storage
The VetMAX™ C. abortus Kit comes in a box containing different reagents for detection in duplex of Chlamydophila abortus and an IPC.
Upon receipt, the whole kit must be stored at −30°C to −10°C. After initial use of a component, store it according to the following
recommendations:
Component Description Volume

• The detection system for the C. abortus target,
including a TaqMan® probe labeled
FAM™ - NFQ (Non-Fluorescent Quencher).
• The detection system for the IPC, including a TaqMan®
probe labeled VIC™ - NFQ (Non-Fluorescent Quencher).
• Buffer and real-time PCR enzyme.

(Brown tube)
External Positive Control:
Positive control for C. abortus. It consists of already extracted
nucleic acid to be amplified during real-time PCR.
90 µL −30°C to −10°C −30°C to −10°C
Extraction and amplification controls
The VetMAX™ C. abortus Kit contains 1 control, enabling validation of the amplification of the bacterial DNA.
4a - EPC C. abortus: positive control for Chlamydophila abortus
Already extracted positive control to be amplified during real-time PCR.
A positive result within the specified Ct range validates the amplification of the Chlamydophila abortus target by real-time PCR.
