This booklet contains operational instructions for Polar Krush, Devil’s Ice
and Refresh machines. For the purpose of this booklet the machine
images throughout are that of the Polar Krush Classic Twin Machine,
however the usage instructions are applicable to all Refurbished and
Classic machines, which are operated in the same way.
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the machine is the responsibility
of the operating site. For hygiene purposes, we recommend that you
carry out your cleaning schedule and check your filter at least
fortnightly.

Setting up your Machine
3. You will need to ensure that there
is a clearance of 20cm at the back
and both sides of the machine. This
will ensure that the machine has
enough room for ventilation. If the
machine overheats, it won’t
function effectively.
4. Take the drip trays out of the clear
bowls, and position at the bottom of
the front panel. Make sure that the
clear overflow pipe is tucked into
the back of the tray.
5. Remove the taps from the bowls
and lubricate the shafts with
lubricant. Then simply push them into
place in the tap tubes until you hear a
click.
1. Position your machine where you will be using it. Your machine
will need to have a 240 volt electric power supply.
2. Plug the machine into the mains.

Preparing the Product
1. Pour the concentrate into a
clean product bottle and fill to the
top of the concentrate line.
2. Fill the bottle up to the neck
using the coldest water possible,
as the colder the water, the less
time it will take for your machine
to freeze down.
For best results, we recommend
that you chill your mixed product
overnight in a refrigerator.
3. Shake the bottle well and pour
the mixture into the machine. This
will give you slightly more than 5
litres of slush, as the mixture
expands slightly as it freezes.
Each bowl has the capacity for 12
litres and should be kept filled
between the minimum and
maximum levels indicated.
Your machine is now ready to start
freezing.
Freezing and Adjustment
The first time you start up your machine, it will freeze down
within two and a half hours. However when you freeze it down
each day afterwards, it will take less time.
Because these machines are refurbished, and the compressors
may have been replaced, there may be some variation in freezing
time between the two sides. This means that one side may freeze
relatively quickly, and the other side may take slightly longer. This
is quite normal, and does not mean that your machine is broken.
1. When your machine is first
switched on, it will need to chill
completely before it begins to
freeze. The liquid will remain
transparent while this is
happening.
2. When your slush is completely
chilled and ready to begin
freezing, small pieces of ice will
form on the evaporator, and you
will start to see these floating
around in the product.
3. The ice will slowly get thicker
and more dense, and the slush will
form.
evaporator
If you try to serve your slush, and its consistency is either too
solid or too runny, you can alter its consistency by adjusting the
torque setting on the back of the machine.
By turning this screw, you will
see the peg move between the +
and positions.
If you want to make the product
thicker, move the marker toward
the + sign, which will increase
the ice crystals in your product.
When adjusting the setting,
move it gradually, or your
machine may over freeze, leaving
your slush too solid, or not freeze
enough, leaving it too runny.
This can be done by using a flat
head screwdriver. You will find
the adjustment screw on the
back of the square plastic panel
that is holding the evaporator.
4. When you have slush that is
fairly thick but is still being turned
by the spiral, your slush is ready to
serve.

6. Rear light switch
This machine works in the same way as above, but also has a chill
switch that allows the machine to remain chilled overnight. If you are
using this setting, turn off the freezer switches (2,5) and turn on the
chill switches (3,6). Reverse in the morning to freeze down.

The on/off switch (3) will light up when a power supply is available.
Switch the machine on, then switch both augers/spirals (1,4), and
both freeze buttons (2,5) on. You will notice that the freeze function
will not start for around 5 minutes after the augers are turning.
Please note that if the augers are switched off at any time, the freeze
function will cut out. This is to protect the machine if freezing
continues and the ice forms a solid block, there is a risk of damage to
the machine when the auger is switched back on, as the ice will stop
the auger turning effectively.
The Control Panel
2. The control switchboard for the Devil’s Ice machine is slightly
different and is shown below.

2. Remove upper mixing arm by
applying gentle pressure on the
front end of the stainless steel rod
to remove from plastic location on
the inside front of the bowl.
1. Use the taps to empty the
product from each of the two
bowls into a suitable clean
container.
Remove the clear lids from the
bowls.
3. Remove the taps by pressing the
tabs at both sides of the tap and
easing them out of the shaft, pulling
upwards at the same time.
4. Unscrew the two bowl retaining
nuts.
‘O’ rings
5. Gently ease the bowls out of
their position by moving them
downwards and forwards.
Carefully release the bowl from
the red seal at the back, taking
care not to spill any syrup that
may be remaining in the bowls.
6. Unscrew the spiral retaining
nut, remembering to turn
clockwise as this has a left hand
thread.

Please note when you replace
the spiral and retaining nut,
there is a shaped hole, you
need to ensure that the flat
part of the spindle is located
correctly.
7. The red bowl seal can now be
carefully removed from the
cylindrical evaporator, and the
white shaft seal can be removed
from the spindle.

8. Clean the cylindrical evaporator and the blue plastic tray
underneath with a soft damp cloth.
9. Wash all the loose parts with a sanitiser, taking care to follow the
manufacturers instructions. Do not use an abrasive cleaner on the
bowls as the plastic can be. A bottle brush could be used to clean the
inside of the tap tubes.
Please note that the flat face of the
seal is toward the machine and the
curved face is toward the bowl. You
will need to remember this when
you reassemble the machine after
cleaning.
10. When all parts have been
cleaned, reassemble the machine
in reverse order, making sure that
you lightly grease the red seal on
the edges of the grooves and the
inside back edge of the bowl that
will touch the red seal. This avoid
leaks will help assembly and make
the next removal much easier.

11. Before placing back on the
machine, grease the small white
shaft seal, packing it half full with
lubricant to prevent product leaks.
Wipe away any excess lubricant that
may have been squeezed out as the
auger nut is tightened in an anti
clockwise direction.
The O rings on the taps must also be greased to prevent leaks and
help the movement when dispensing product.
Your machine is now ready to use.

Cleaning the Filter
2. Gently ease off the back panel
from the top, taking care to avoid
damaging the screw thread. Then
lift the panel upwards and toward
you over the lower remaining lug.
The panel will then be free and can
be removed with the filter. Note
that the wide stainless steel
surround should face the machine
when replaced.
1. A removable filter is fitted to the
machines, so you will need access
to the back of the machine.
Remove the black plastic knob.
3. The filter can now be cleaned,
keeping away from any food
products, by gently cleaning with a
soft brush or washing with warm
soapy water.
Rinse and dry, then replace the
filter and rear panel and replace the
fastening knob
Regular cleaning of the filter will ensure a faster freeze down time,
save electricity and reduce unnecessary heat being generated by the
machine.
Problem Possible cause Solution
The space around the sides and/or back of machine is
inadequate for cooling airflow.
Allow at least 20 cm between the machine and anything next to it & keep away from heat
sources.
The filter and/or the item that looks like a radiator are
clogged with dust etc.
Turn the machine off. Remove the rear back panel. Using a brush or vacuum cleaner clean the
condenser and filter, where fitted.
The product dilution is incorrect. Check the product dilution, as stated on the concentrate bottle, if unsure change.
The level of the product in the bowl is too low, exposing
the spiral.
Top up level with correctly diluted product.
Check the fuse in 13amp plug. Replace fuse, as necessary. If problem continues, request service.
Check the power supply outlet. Replace fuse or consult an electrician, as necessary. If problem continues, request service.
Product is leaking from the
bowl.
One of the bowl seals is not correctly positioned or
lubricated.
Remove bowl, check seals correctly positioned and lubricate.
Product is leaking from tap.
Tap is stiff to operate.
Tap not positioned correctly or the seal rings lubricated. Remove tap, clean and lubricate theo” ring seals, replace tap until it clicks into place.
Product is flowing into the
drip tray through drainage
tube.
The white shaft seal between the shaft and the spiral is
incorrectly fitted, worn, or not lubricated.
Remove and refit the seal, filling the cup of the seal half full of grease. Wipe away excess after
tightening the screw. (s ee page 4 of the manual)
The spiral and/or upper
mixing arm is not turning.
Spiral (auger) switch is not turned on. Turn on spiral switch. (N.B. machine will not freeze until spiral turning)
The red bowl seal is not in the correct position, causing a
squeak, or the gear teeth do not mesh.
Check red bowl seal is seated correctly.
The product dilution is not correct. Remove and replace.
The white shaft seal has not been replaced, is damaged,
or not greased.
Replace, or clean and half fill with grease.
Low level of product. Refill with product with correctly diluted product.
Gear teeth worn. Request service call.
The bulb has failed. Request service call.
Machine is noisy after a repair
or service.
Machine makes a grinding noise.
This is perfectly normal when new parts are fitted. Allow time for the parts to bed in. If noise
persists after a day or so request a service call.
The machine does not cool
efficiently, but the
compressors are running.
The machine over-freezes,
stops or slows down the
movement of the spiral.
The spiral and/or the upper
mixing arm are creating
noises as they rotate.
No light in lid or rear panel.
The main power switch is
turned “on” but the unit is not
running.
