What is AES encryption?

In cryptography, the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is an encryption standard adopted

by the U.S. government. The standard comprises three block ciphers, AES-128, AES-192 and AES-

256, adopted from a larger collection originally published as Rijndael. Each AES cipher has a 128-

bit block size, with key sizes of 128, 192 and 256 bits, respectively. The AES ciphers have been

analyzed extensively and are now used worldwide, as was the case with its predecessor, the

Data Encryption Standard (DES).

AES was announced by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as U.S. FIPS

PUB 197 (FIPS 197) on November 26, 2001 after a 5-year standardization process in which

fifteen competing designs were presented and evaluated before Rijndael was selected as the

most suitable (see Advanced Encryption Standard process for more details). It became effective

as a standard May 26, 2002. As of 2009, AES is one of the most popular algorithms used in

symmetric key cryptography.[citation needed] It is available in many different encryption

packages. AES is the first publicly accessible and open cipher approved by the NSA for top secret

information.

The Rijndael cipher was developed by two Belgian cryptographers, Joan Daemen and Vincent

Rijmen, and submitted by them to the AES selection process. Rijndael is a portmanteau of the

names of the two inventors.

Software Installation Guide

1. Download the Encryption Software

from:

http://www.goplextor.com/Product/Detail/EX1#/Download

2. Save the file on your PC

3. Plug in the EX1 External SSD to

the computer via USB connector.

4. Double click on

SecureDriveEX2_Setup.exe file

to initiate software installation

5. On the SecureDrive EX2 Wizard,

3.1 Select your language of choice

3.2 Select “Plextor EX1” on the

External Hard Drive menu

6. Click 「Next」to continue

7. Click "Install" Option icon

WARNING: All data on the the hard disk will be

deleted when you are partitioning your

USB HDD.

8. Click "Yes" to confirm or “No” if you do not

want to proceed.

9. The installation is complete when it

reaches 100%.

10. Click "Done" button and unplug your

external hard drive. Then reconnect to

your computer.

Initial Start-Up

1. Select your language of choice and read

the License Agreement. Check the box if

you accept the terms.

2. Click “Next” to proceed

3. Enter the Secure Drive Installation Key

correctly.

You will find the Installation Key included

in your EX1 product box.

4. Click「Next」to proceed

5. Choose how much of your drive you

want to make public and secured.

Public area can be set to 0 M, If set to 0, there

will be no public area after this partition.

Security area can't be less than 8MB, because

the partition limitation.

6. Click " Next" to continue.

7. Create a password hint and

password.

8. Make sure any files on your hard

drive are backed up.

9. Select, “Yes” to confirm all data will be

deleted or, “No” to not continue.

10. The installation is complete, Secure

Drive is now ready for use.

Unlocking the Drive

1. Connect the External Drive to the

computer via USB port.

2. Now the Secured Area of the drive is

locked, you may not see it from My

Computer anymore.

AP Drive is for programs/applications only

＊

Public Drive is for any data you want publicly

accessed.

3. Click on AP drive to locate

SecureDriveEX2.exe to open the program.

4. Fill in your correct password and click

the red "Lock" or "enter" to unlock the

secured area

5. Unlocking is completed when it reaches

100%.

6. External storage information on the

Secured Area are now

visible/displayed.

7. The drive of "Security" is also no visible via

My Computer.

Every file that you save on the Secured

Folder/Area is now automatically

encrypted.

Locking the Drive

1. If the Security drive/folder is visible from My

Computer, this means the folder/drive has

not been secured.

2. Click the blue icon on the top right hand

corner to start the locking process.

3. Locking is complete when it reached 100%

4. Create “Password Hint” and “Password” and

click

5. The Secure drive/folder cannot be found

anymore from My Computer. This means the

folder has been correctly locked.

Forgot Password?

1. Click on "Forget password?" link

2. Enter the Serial Key/Numbers correctly

3. Your password should show up in the

space below.

Modify Settings

Renewing Password

1. Click or Setting.

2. Under the “Password” tab, fill in required

information. Click “Save” to proceed

Changing Language Options

1. Under the “Options” tab, choose from the

drop down menu for your preferred language.

Safely Disconnecting External Drive

Steps

1. The External drive may be

safely removed even when the

Secure area/folder is either

unlocked or locked.

2. Click the transfer cable to

remove the External Drive.

3. Click "Yes" when prompted “Do

you want to remove USB Drive?”

4. Remove the USB HDD under

the status of unlock, the

security area will be

automatically locked.

5. To execute SecureDrive EX2

again, please take the USB

device off and then reconnect.
