Wire feed mechanism MEH 30
The wire feed mechanism is driven by a permanent magnet electric motor. The
motor is united to a worm gearbox with a feed roller on the output shaft. The gears
on the feed shaft drive a thrust roller. The wire is advanced by the rollers and power
is received from two driving rollers. Pressure is applied to the wire by a blade
attached to the bracket supporting the thrust r oller.
The blade spring is lever--shaped and allows the thrust roller to be moved out of the
way when changing the wire or cleaning the outlet nozzle. When the thrust roller is
released the same pressure is applied to the wire as before. This pressure can be
adjusted using the knob.
The connection plate on the wire feed unit is used for connecting welding current,
control current, shielding gas, and the wire, all in a single coupling. The wire outlet
nozzle is attached to the connection plate by a locking pin. No tools a re needed to
replace the nozzle. On the connection plate is a power relay which closes when
current flows in the welding circuit.
The feed roller and thrust roller have three grooves for different wire dimensions.
The rollers need not be changed when changing to thicker or thinner wire, just
moved sideways. The positions of the feed roller on the shaft is adjusted using one
or two shims. The thrust roller automatically adjust to the current position in relation
to the feed roller. T he feed mechanism is insulated from the casing.
MEH 44
The feed mechanism in the MEH 44 is largely constructed of the same components
as the MEH 30. T he connection plate, thrust roller and blade spring with adjusting
screw are all identical.
The main difference between the two feed mechanisms is that the MEH 44 has four
driving rollers. Two motors connected in series each drive one feed roller and one
thrust roller.Drive force is divided equally between the two pairs of roller. Any slip due
to differences in the diameters of the rollers is evended out in the motors.
The thrust r ollers are housed in a bogie mounted on a shaft. This is arranged so that
the thrust applied on each pair of rollers is the same. The bogie can easily be
removed once the blade spring is moved to the side. No tools are needed. Between
the two pairs of rollers is an intermediate nozzle that guides the wire. The wire feed
mechanism is insulated from the casing.
Regular equipment
The electronic components are on a circuit card mounted on the dividing panel.
Internal cables are connected to the card by multipin connectors. The control cable
is connected to a bolted terminal.
Turnable
The turnable is attached at the rear of the wire feed unit. It is delivered with an
insulated pivot which can be fitted in a hole on the top of the power source, allowing
the wire feed unit to be swung around as far as the gas bottle.
On top of the turnable is the brake hub for the wire reel. The brake hub can be fitted
in either of two holes for 30 or 44 cm reels.
