IMPORTANT
First make sure that the appliance has not been damaged in transit. If any
damage has been incurred, please inform the supplier immediately.
Please read these instructions carefully.
Keep the instructions in a safe place and make sure that they are retained
with the refrigerator when the appliance is transferred to a new location or
owner.
Note! If this refrigerator is replacing a larger one which is going to be
scrapped, remove the door before disposal to prevent children from
becoming trapped inside.
Please contact the relevant area refuse office to arrange disposal. The pipe
system of your refrigerator must not be damaged if technically correct to the
recycling centre for your area.
Recommendation: before installation or initial use of the appliance, clean
the interior and fittings with lukewarm water and, if necessary, a mild
detergent. Never use acidic, abrasive or strong-smelling detergents or wax
polishes!
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The refrigerator is equipped with an absorber unit wich is completely silent
in operation.
It is designed for free-standing installation but can be built in if the following
instructions are observed.
In order to ensure perfect operation and maximum cooling efficiency of the
appliance, the following conditions must be stricitly complied with:
1) sufficient supply of fresh air from below;
2) good heat dissipation above the cooling unit, free from obstruction;
3) stable, level position of the refrigerator;
If the appliance is to be built in, please ensure that it can be removed if
necessary without damaging the surrounding fitments.
The refrigerator must be positioned far enough into the fitment for the entire
unit to project into the air duct. Ventilation must not be obstructed by a
radiator, television or any source of heat.
Two refrigerators should not be built in, one on top of the other, unless
separate ventilation is provided for each.
7
Below are several possibilities for building in the refrigerator, whereby the
dimensions given are minimum dimensions.
If built into an open shelf, fig. 2, it is sufficient for the air duct to be 105 mm
deep. This can be achieved by attaching 105 mm spacers to the rear panel
of the shelf (not supplied). The entire unit must nevertheless project into the
air duct.
If built into a wall cupboard, fig. 3-5, the air duct must correspond to the
width of the refrigerator and measure at least 105 mm above and behind the
refrigerator. If decorative grilles are used, the open ventilation section per
grille must measure at least 200 cm
2
.
Door hang and decorative door panel
The position you select for your refrigerator may make it necessary to
reverse the door hang. If this is the case, please read: Reversing the
doorhang.
The decorative panel on this appliance can be replaced. With regard to this
please read: Changing the decorative door panel.
Connecting to the mains
The appliance must only be connected to the mains by means of an earthed
socket wich has been installed in accordance with the regulations. Before
connecting up, check that the voltage on the data label ( in the top left of the
inside compartment ) is compatible with the mains supply.
SWITCHING ON
To switch on the refrigerator, plug it into the socket and turn the termostat (in
the inside compartment) to position 3 or 4. The appliance will be cool in
about one hour.
The temperature inside the refrigerator is affected by location, room
temperature and too frequent opening of the door. Adjustment of the
thermostat dial may therefore be necessary.
Temperature control
The cooling capacity can be adjusted by means of the termostat. 0 = cooling
is switched off, from 1-7 the temperature decreases. When the termostat is
at a medium setting (3 or 4) and the ambient temperature is normal, the
temperature inside the refrigerator is betwen 0°- 7 °C.
Note! Depending on the ambient temperature, service life, and quantity and
temperature of the refrigerated item, the temperature inside the refrigerator
can drop to below 0 °C when the thermostat is set at 7 (maximum cooling
capacity). Drinks can freeze, glass bottles and cans may burst!
8
If the ambient temperature is very high, the cooling capacity decreases. This
does not mean that the appliance is defective.
USING THE REFRIGERATOR
The refrigerator provides sufficient storage space for food, milk, drinks etc.
The shelves on the inside of the door (EA 3140) are suitable for bottles, tins
and small packets. All models with the exception of EA 3080 are equipped
with half-depth cabinet shelves which can be arranged according to
preference. Two can be used together to form a full-depth shelf or they can
be used separately, leaving space at the front for bottles and other larger
items.
All food should be stored in its original packaging or in closed containers.
Liquids should also only be stored in closed bottles or containers. In this way
food remains moist, odours do not form and neither does excess ice form on
the cooling unit. Allow hot food and drink to cool down before placing them
in the refrigerator.
Do not keep any easily combustible substances such as ether, petrol,
adhesive, propane gas etc. in the refrigerator, it could explode!
ICE CUBES
Fill the ice tray to 4/5 with drinking water, and place the ice tray on the ice-
tray shelf. Wipe off any excess water to prevent the ice tray from freezing to
the surface.
To speed up the making of ice cubes, turn the thermostat to position 7 for a
short while. Remember to turn the dial to its normal setting when the ice
cubes are frozen.
To remove the cubes from the ice tray, hold it under running water. The ice
tray and the ice cubes can now be taken out easily.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Defrosting
Frost will gradually form on the cooling surfaces and it must not be allowed
to become too thick since it impairs the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator.
Check the formation of frost regularly and defrost the refrigerator if the layer
of frost is thicker than 6 mm.
The appliances are fitted either with a semi or fully automatic defrosting
system.
9
Semi-automatic defrosting
Press the defrosting button in the thermostat dial with a toothpick. On no
account alter the position of the thermostat but leave it at its usual setting
and close the door.
When the defrosting process is complete the defrosting button is released
and the refrigerator will return to normal operation.
Defrosting time is dependent on the thickness of the frost layer and the room
temperature.
Defrost water
During the defrosting process the water runs through a hose into a container
on the back of the refrigerator where it evaprates. This container does not
need to be emptied.
Cleaning
Clean the inside of your refrigerator regularly to keep it fresh and hygienic.
Switch off the appliance and pull out the plug. Clean the interior and fittings
carefully with a mild deteergent in lukewarm water.
Never use acidic, abrasive or strongsmelling detergents or wax polishes as
these will damage the surfaces and leave an unpleasant smell.
The outside should occasionally be dusted or wiped over with a damp
cloth. The door seal should only be cleaned with water and rubbed down
with talcum powder from time to time.
If possible, the unit should also be dusted occasionally with a brush or, even
better, with a vacuum cleaner. Ensure that the plug is disconnected.
Longer periods of absence...
If you wish to switch off the appliance for a longer period of time, pull out the
plug, defrost the refrigerator and clean it carefully. Leave the door open to
prevent unpleasant odours from forming.
Changing the lightbulb
If the lightbulb needs changing, pull out the plug and proceed as follows:
Press the metal reflector to one side and draw the lamp covering backwards.
Replace the bulb and push the covering back into place.
A new 10 W bulb can be obtained at any service shop.
Reversing the door hang, Fig. 6.
Lay the appliance on its back. Remove the 8 screws (1). Remove the door,
together with the two hinges (2), from the housing.
10
Remove the two cover caps (3) from the housing and place them in the open
hinge holes on the housing. Place the bottom righthand hinge in the top left
of the door and the top righthand hinge in the bottom left of the door and
hang the door on its hinges in the open cover cap holes in the housing.
Secure the hinges and cover caps with the 8 screws.
Check that the door closes easily and is sealed properly.
Replacing the decorative door panel, Fig. 7-9
Remove the two screws (1) from the upper hinge of the door.
Pull the door together with the hinge away from the housing and up off the
lower hinge bolt (2-3).
Remove screws (4) and pull off the frame edge (5).
Slide the decorative panel (6) out of the door frame and insert the new panel
(7), so that the upper edge of the panel runs exactly parallel to the upper
edge of the frame. A new panel can be inserted more easily into the upper
edge of the frame when the two corners are cut off by approx. 5x5 mm (8).
Put the frame edge (5) back in place and secure with screws (4).
Place the door on the lower hinge (9), slot the upper hinge into the opening,
press together with the door against the housing and secure with the two
screws (11).
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
Before you call a service engineer, carry out the following simple tests:
Is there a power failure? Check the fuses.
Is the plug firmly connected to the socket and is the socket switched on?
Check the socket by plugging in another appliance, eg a table lamp.
Is the thermostat at the correct setting? (normally 3 or 4).
Has the defrosting button been inadvertently pushed in? If so, turn the
thermostat dial to "0" and the defrosting button will be released. Reset the
dial to its usual position and the refrigerator should start cooling again.
Has the door not been closed properly causing the inside temperature to
rise too quickly?
Ist the refrigerator level?
Has the vantilation become obstructed?
If after checking all the above points, the refrigerator is still not working
satisfactorily, contact your nearest service engineer. A list of service
11
engineers is supplied with every appliance. State the problem, model and
product number.
(Details of the model and product number are to be found on the data label
in the top left of the inside compartment.)
This refrigerator is equipped with overheating protection. An authorised
service technician can check whether this has been triggered or not.
IMPORTANT ADVICE
Do
make sure that drinks and food, particularly those with a strong smell,
are closed tightly or well packed;
close the door properly after use. The door should only be left open a
little when the refrigerator is switched off;
defrost the refrigerator regularly.
Do not
use sharp objects to remove the frost layer or free the ice tray;
obstruct the airflow on or above the cooling unit;
put any hot or warm food/drinks into the refrigerator - allow them to cool
down first.
The appliance does not contain any CFCs/HCFCs.
Sodium chromate is used for corrosion protection (less than 2 weight % of
the coolant).
RECYCLING
After unpacking the appliance, the packing materials should be delivered to
a local collection site. At the end of its useful lifetime, the appliance should
be delivered to a specialized collection and reprocessing firm, which
reclaims the usable materials. The rest is properly destroyed.
