Removal/Shipping Instructions
1. Remove the top cap and the adjoining o-ring using a 3/8
socket extension and socket wrench.
2. Attach a wire-rope to the Top-Link rod, using a stud wire
rope socket fitting, such as an Esmet Electroline Item #
IGD-312-V.
The stud wire rope socket fitting
must have the clearance to pass a
¾ “female thread over it to enable
the removal of the bushing from
the Link-Rod installed in the
transformer.
3. Remove the nut on the Top-Link brass rod under the
terminal using an adjustable tight-clearance offset socket
wrench while maintaining tension on the attached wire
rope.
Be sure to firmly hold on the wire
so the assembly does not fall into
the transformer.
4. Remove the vibration resistant washer pair and the Quick-
Link pin sleeve while maintaining tension the wire rope.
5. Loosen the tension on the wire rope to allow for the
Quick-Link connector from the socket on the bottom to
disengage. You may need to use a rubber mallet to apply
enough force to disengage the Quick-Link connector.
6. Lift the bushing out of the transformer while holding the
wire to keep the rod and connector assembly from falling
into the transformer.
Do not pull the link-rod assembly too
hard, you may damage the internal
transformer connections.
7. When the bottom of the bushing clears the top of the
transformer tank, you will see the Bottom-Link rod. Keep
lifting the bushing until you have enough room to
comfortably reach in and secure the rod.
8. The Quick-Link rod has a joint in the middle. On the
standard designs, this joint is located ¾ inch above the
flange mounting-surface. The joint is threaded, allowing
for ± ¼ inch adjustment. The standard gap is such that
approximately ¼ inch of threads are visible between the
two sections.
9. While firmly securing the link rod
release the wire and lift the bushing up and
out of the way.
Be sure to have a good hold on the
Bottom-Link so the assembly does not
fall into the transformer.
10. Pull the rod up, or push down so the 0.38” hole at the top
of the Bottom-Link is just above the top of the transformer
tank
On the standard design the hole is
located 1½ inches below the top of the
Bottom-Link. You will need to pull the
Bottom-Link up ¾ inch.
11. Insert a rod through the 0.38” diameter hole in such a
manner that the rod holds up the link rod while being
braced on the top of the transformer. A split cover such as
B-331042 can also be used in conjunction with the rod to
cover the opening in the transformer.
12. After the bushing is fully removed from the Quick-Link rod
and the Quick-Link rod is secured, unthread the Top-Link
rod from the bottom section.
13. Install the Top-Link, pin-sleeve, the vibration resistant
washer pair, and the nut to the bushing for shipment.
14. The Bottom-Link should be left in the transformer. Cover
plates that cover the bushing mounting holes on the
transformer must be made to allow the Bottom-Link (with
the Quick-Link connector attached) to be attached to the
cover for shipping. The Quick-Link connector assembly
must be attached securely to the cover (or the
transformer) for shipment. Steps 15 – 18 describe the
procedure to use PCORE part number B-331024 for a
transformer turret cover while this same procedure can be
used for similar turret covers.
15. While the Bottom-Link is held by a rod, thread on
B-331024 to the Bottom-Link.
16. Position B-331024 so that the bolt holes of the cover are
aligned with the bolt holes or studs of the turret by
loosening the thread of the turret cover.
