1. Introduction:
The OnQ KSU/PBX Door Intercom allows a person at the door to communicate with someone at any
other phone location in the house.
2. Description:
The OnQ KSU/PBX Door Intercom, see Figure 1 below, contains a loudspeaker, microphone and
pushbutton, which is used to signal the other phones in the house that someone is at the door. An LED is
also provided to help find the pushbutton in low light conditions. The Door Intercom is available in three
finishes as listed below, and fits in a single gang box with the dimensions shown in Figure 2 below.
OnQ Part Number 364605-01 – White Carlon, 20.3 cu. In. - Model B-120A
OnQ Part Number 364605-02 – Polished Brass RACO, 18 cu. In. - Model D-34068-1
OnQ Part Number 364605-03 – Antique Brass
3. Operation:
When someone at the door pushes and releases the button on the faceplate, the OnQ KSU/PBX Door
Intercom system rings all on-hook extension phones with the Intercom cadence, two short (.5 second)
rings followed by a 3 second pause. If no one answers, this cadence repeats a total of five times, and the
call is terminated. When someone does answer, the person at the door communicates speakerphone
style, by just talking into the microphone and listening to the loudspeaker.
4. Installation:
The OnQ KSU/PBX Door Intercom mounts in a 1-gang box as indicated in Figure 2 above. The unit is
shipped with the faceplate connected to a backing plate with two screws and nuts. These may be
discarded and replaced upon installation by the color matched mounting screws, which are provided.
Although the door intercom comes with a weatherproofing gasket that installs between the faceplate and

backbox, it is also a good idea to add a bead of caulk to seal the faceplate to the side of the structure
(after operation has been tested). The Door Intercom is home run wired with a single CAT5E from the box
to the OnQ Enclosure.
As shown in Figure 3 below, the CAT5E four-pair cable may be punched down on the 110 terminating
strip, or plugged into the RJ-45 jack, both located on the rear of the Door Intercom. The blue pair, or pins
4&5, are used to signal the call and as tip and ring for voice communication. The orange pair, or pins 3&6,
are used to supply 5VDC to the LED to help find the pushbutton in low light conditions. The green and
brown pairs are not used, but should also be terminated.
Note: Although either extension #18 or #19 on the OnQ 2x10 KSU/PBX (ref. P/N 364565-01) may be
configured for Door Intercom service (see item 5 below), the 5VDC for the LED is only supplied on the
orange pair, pins 3&6, of extension 18A and 19A, not 18B or 19B.
In Figure 3 above you can see that a two-wire Doorstrike Header is also wired across the blue pair, pins
4&5. A separate pair of wires is run from this header to a Doorstrike Controller (ordered separately),
which is then wired to an electronic doorstrike to allow any extension to open a remote door. The
extension presses FLASH * to activate the doorstrike for two seconds.
5. Configuration:
To enable extension #18 for Door Intercom service on the OnQ 2x10 KSU/PBX, from any extension dial
*31 18, listen for the confirmation tone and hang up. To return to normal phone service on extension #18,
from any extension dial *30 18, listen for the confirmation tone and hang up.
To enable extension #19 for Door Intercom service on the OnQ 2x10 KSU/PBX, from any extension dial
*31 19, listen for the confirmation tone and hang up. To return to normal phone service on extension #19,
from any extension dial *30 19, listen for the confirmation tone and hang up.
When the pushbutton on the faceplate of the Door Intercom is pressed, all extensions normally ring. To
remove an extension from the ring table, from any extension dial *29 aa, bb, cc….hh, where aa, etc are
extensions that you want to ring. If there is an extension that you don’t want to ring, leave it out of the ring
table.
