STATUS

DESCRIPTION
The E&M/TO is a channel unit that provides an interface between a Total Access
®
750/850/1500 channel bank PCM interface and a VF transmission facility with E&M
DC signaling supervision. The E&M/TO features:
E&M or TO Mode
Dial pulse distortion correction option
Digital loopback to the network,
Compatible with types I, II, III, or V E&M signaling interfaces
2-wire or 4-wire mode
Note: Use in a Total Access 850 requires a BCU.
TURNUP STEPS
Unpack the Total Access 750/850/1500 E&M/TO card and inspect for damage. If
damage is apparent, refer to your carrier or supplier for replacement.
Verify SW2, SW3, and SW4 are provisioned properly for your application. Refer to
the table in this job aid for default provisioning and other provisioning options.
Insert E&M/TO card into a Total Access 1500 chassis slot 1-24, or Total Access 750
Chassis slots 1-6. To insert, hold the card by the front panel while supporting the
bottom edge of the card. Align the card edge with the guide groove in the Total
Access 750/850/1500 chassis. Insert into chassis until the edge card connector
seats firmly into the chassis backplane. Lock the unit in place by pushing in on
the locking lever. The unit will automatically map DS0s in the T1 determined by
the LIU operational configuration. Automatic assignment can be overridden by
manually changing the T1 mapping in the LIU menuing system.
Verify LED sequencing. LEDs will stop sequencing once unit is initialized.

remote. Local provisioning results in the unit operating as defined by the onboard switches.
Remote provisioning, if chosen, results in the unit operating as defined by the system controller
menu settings (onboard switches are ignored). The operational mode is indicated by the REM LED
and can be changed by activating the Alternate Provisioning (AP) front panel switch.
