Installation instructions valid only for vehicles with optional extra 508 (PDC) and

Installation time

The installation time of approx. 4.0 hours may vary depending on the vehicle's condition and equipment.

The vehicle must be updated to the latest I-level status by flashing before installing the retrofit. Differing program-

ming times may be necessary depending on the production age of the vehicle and on work previously performed

on the vehicle.

The installation time given does not include time needed for programming/encoding.

The total costs for the programming time should be taken into account when calculating retrofitting costs

(reimbursement through warranty is not permissible).

Important information

These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by

authorised BMW service companies.

In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with

the appropriate specialist knowledge.

All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals and work

instructions, in a rational order, using the specified tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety

regulations.

In the event of installation or functional problems, limit troubleshooting to 0.5 hours for mechanical

jobs and 1.0 hours for electrical jobs.

To avoid unnecessary work and costs, send a corresponding enquiry via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP)

using the technical parts support application.

Please quote the following:

- Vehicle identification number

- Part number of the retrofit kit

- Exact description of the problem

- Work already carried out.

Instructions for the customer

The "Customer information" section at the end of the installation instructions should be printed out

and handed over to the customer.

Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are made by ASAP!

Installation information

Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. Costs incurred as a result of

incorrect installation will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.

All pictures show LHD cars; proceed accordingly on RHD cars.

Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.

Bridges, double crimp or parallel connections must be made if the specified PIN chambers are already occupied.

Ordering information

The wiring loom AVM N and AVM O must be additionally ordered for vehicles without optional extra 601 but

equipped with optional extra 696 (see EPC for instructions and part number).

8. Installing reversing camera

Route the tap connections on reversing camera wiring

harness A as follows:

For vehicles without optional extra 601

A1 and A2 towards navigation computer/CCC.

For vehicles with optional extra 601

Insulate tap connection A1 and A2 and tie back in the area

of the video module.

For all vehicles

A3 and A4 to luggage compartment, left.

A6 to A15 towards tailgate.

For vehicles with optional extra 601

If connector X18804 is not fitted, use socket insert M

and cover L (GN).

Connect the tap connections as follows in video module

WS connector X18804:

- A3, GE/SW, at Pin 1.

- A3, GN, at Pin 10.

For vehicles without optional extra 601

Insulate and tie back tap connections A3 and A4.

Screw down BR tap connection A5 to earth branch

connector X151 at rear apron.

Route tap connections A16-A18 along the vehicle wiring

harness towards the fuse holder in the luggage compart-

ment.

8. Installing reversing camera

For all vehicles

Route tap connection A16, RT/GN, to fuse holder in lug-

gage compartment, right.

Plug 10A fuse F into slot 108.

If slot 108 is already protected with more than 10A, fuse F is

not required.

If slot 108 is protected with less than 10A, the existing fuse

must be replaced by fuse F.

Connect tap connection A16, RT/GN, to connec-

tor X11012, GR, Pin 8 from fuse carrier in luggage

compartment.

If Pin 8 is already assigned, separate socket contact from

tap connection A16 and create parallel connection of

miniature connector E to X11012 Pin 8.

Connect tap connections as follows to PDC control unit

connector X300 with miniature connector E:

- A17, GN, to GN wire from Pin 8.

- A18, OR/GN, to OR/GN wire from Pin 2.

Route tap connections A6 to A15 through rubber

grommet (1) into tailgate, left-hand side.

Plug in tap connections at SW socket housing J as follows:

- A6, GE/SW, at Pin 2.

- A7, GN, at Pin 6.

- A8, shield, at Pin 4.

Insulate and tie back tap connections A9, A10 and A11.

Only vehicles without optional extra 601

Plug in tap connections at SW socket housing J as follows:

- A9, SW, at Pin 2.

- A10, GE, at Pin 6.

- A11, shield, at Pin 4.

Insulate and tie back tap connections A6, A7 and A8.

For all vehicles

Plug in tap connections at WS socket housing I as follows:

- A12, BR, at Pin 3.

- A13, GN, at Pin 6.

- A14, OR/GN, at Pin 1.

- A15, RT/GN, at Pin 4.

Plug socket housing I, WS and J, SW, into camera B.

8. Installing reversing camera

Remove cap (1) from the tailgate and insert rubber

grommet C in opening.

Insert camera B from inside with the lens in rubber

grommet C.

Secure camera B with two Torx screws D.

Tightening torque: 66 54 1 FRU.

Only vehicles without optional extra 601

Route wiring harness A forwards along the vehicle wiring

harness.

Only for vehicles without optional extra 601 and

without optional extra 696

Route wiring harness A to the navigation computer/CCC.

8. Installing reversing camera

If connector X13814 is not fitted, use socket insert H

and cover K.

Plug in pins at WS 12-pin connector X13814 as follows:

- SW tap connection A1 at Pin 4.

-GE tap connection A2 at Pin 2.

Only for vehicles without optional extra 601 and

with optional extra 696

Route branches A1 and A2 into left-hand footwell.

Connect branches A1 and A2 to branch N1 as follows:

- A1, SW wire, at Pin 5.

- A2, GE wire, at Pin 7.

Make sure that no cables are caught in the vicinity of the

steering column or pedal assembly.

Insert AVM O in module holder (1) and clip in position.

Route branch N1, (SW 18-pin socket housing) along vehicle

wiring harness to AVM location and connect.

Route branches N2 - N7 to radio compartment.

Secure wiring loom N with cable ties G.

8. Installing reversing camera

Unplug cable (1) from connector X13814 (WS 12-pin) and

plug into socket housing P as follows:

- Cable, WS wire, from Pin 2 to

Pin 1 of socket housing P.

- Cable, BL wire, from Pin 4 to

Pin 3 of socket housing P.

Connect branch N2 to socket housing P.

If connector X13814 is not fitted, use socket insert H

and cover K.

Connect pins as follows at WS 12-pin connector X13814:

- WS tap connection N3 at Pin 4.

-BL tap connection N4 at Pin 2.

Unplug cable (1) from connector X13812 (SW 16-pin) and

plug into socket housing Q as follows:

- Cable, RT/GN wire, from Pin 15 to

Pin 4 of socket housing Q.

- Cable, BR wire, from Pin 12 to

Pin 1 of socket housing Q.

Plug branches N6 and N7 into connector X13812 as

follows:

-Branch N6, RT/GR wire, at Pin 15.

-Branch N7, BR wire, at PIN 12

Connect branch N5 to socket housing Q.

9. Finishing off and coding

- Reconnect vehicle battery

- Switch on ignition

- Reconnect vehicle battery

- Encode/program retrofit via the path - Retrofit/CIP -

-Perform quick test

- Perform function test

Check operation of reversing camera as follows:

System activation in menu via iDrive

Engage reverse gear; picture must be displayed in on-board monitor

Disengage reverse gear

Reassemble vehicle in reverse order of removal

Adjust visible area (calibration) of the camera as per ISTA 66 53 010.
