Adjusters
Your Öhlins shock absorber type
46 HRC features the following
adjusters:
Compression damping
Adjuster knob at the top of the
reservoir.
Rebound damping
Adjuster screw (3 mm allen key)
at the bottom of the damper body
Spring preload
Adjustment rings under the
spring. Adjustments are made
with C-spanners.
When delivered the shock
absorber is dialled in to Öhlins
recommended settings. If you
have “played” with the adjusters,
please check the settings.
The adjusters have a normal
right-hand thread. Click position
zero (0) is when the adjusters are
turned clockwise to fully closed.
The first click you feel, when you
turn it counter clockwise (to
open) is (1) and so on.
CAUTION!
Using too much force when
closing the adjuster will destroy
vital sealing surfaces. Use no tools
to the adjusters, simply your fin-
gers and a 3 mm allen key to the
rebound.

NOTE!
During storage and transportation, especially
at high ambient temperature, the oil and grease
used for assembling may run out inside the
packing and damage the expanded polysty-
rene packing material. This is not unusual and
is in no way detrimental to the shock absorber.
Kit contents
Before installing the shock absorber please
make sure that all parts for mounting are at
hand. Contact Prodrive if something is miss-
ing.

This indicates information that is of im-
portance with regard to procedures
Before installation
Öhlins Racing AB, as manufacturer of the
components, and the Öhlins dealer, as an
assembler of the shock absorber can not
be held responsible for any damage what-
soever to shock absorber or vehicle, or in-
jury to persons, if the instructions for set-
tings and maintenance are not followed ex-
actly. Similarly the warranty will become null
and void if the instructions are not adhered
to.
WARNING!
1. Installing a shock absorber that is not
approved by the vehicle manufacturer may
affect the stability of your vehicle. Öhlins
Racing AB or Prodrive cannot be held re-
sponsible for any personal injury or damage
whatsoever that may occur after fitting the
shock absorber. Contact Prodrive or other
qualified person for advice.
2. Please study and make certain that you
fully understand the owner’s manual be-
fore handling this shock absorber. If you
have any questions regarding proper in-
stallation procedures, contact Prodrive or
other qualified person.
3. The vehicle service manual must be re-
ferred to when installing the Öhlins shock
absorber.
NOTE!
Öhlins products are subject to continual
improvement and development. Consequently,
although these instructions include the most
up-to-date information available at the time of
printing, there may be minor differences
between your suspension and this manual.
Please consult Prodrive if you have any ques-
tions with regard to the contents of the manual.
Notes
WARNING!
1. Instructions in the vehicle service manual
are to be followed when changing the shock
absorber.
2. When working on a lifted vehicle it must
be securely supported to prevent it from
falling.
Mounting instructions
1
Lift the car so the wheels are free from the
ground and put it on stands. Make sure it is
steadily positioned and will not fall down.
.
5
Fit the upper mounting and strut to the car.
Check that the swivel banjo is facing the
trunk compartment and that the hose banjo
is pointing rearwards.
NOTE!
For tightening torque see the car’s owners
manual.
4
2
Remove the standard strut according to
your car’s workshop manual.
3
Check the marking on the Öhlins front strut
to locate left or right rear.
4
Fit the original upper mounting/bearing to
the Öhlin strut. See fig. for how to place the
spacers, tightening torque 45 Nm.

Camber Bushings
Unlike the standard McPherson struts, the
Öhlins struts features camber bushings that
enable you to alter the wheel camber. Three
sets of bushings are included in each set of
shocks/struts.
The different bushings are marked with
grooves, see table.
NOTE!
The camber angles are approximate and
may vary from car to car depending on the
manufacturing tolerances of the suspension
parts and the pick-up points. Therefore
please check camber angle on each wheel
carefully and adjust if necessary.

6
Before fitting the Öhlin strut to the upright
place the supplied spacer 00123-15 (12/14/
25mm) into the upper hole of the upright.
7
Fit the strut to the upright using the original
screw in the lower mounting hole (tightening
torque see the car’s owners manual) and the
supplied screw in the upper mounting hole.
Tightening torque 50 Nm.
8
The chamber bushing that is fitted in the
strut gives approximately -0.5° (camber
angle). This angle may vary from car to car,
please measure the camber angle on your
car and change it if required using supplied
camber bushings. See table page 1, also
see our recommended set-up.
9
Choose a place for the reservoir mounting
bracket on the cross member, see fig. Use
supplied screws to fit the bracket and place
the reservoir in the bracket. To secure the
reservoir use supplied hose clamp or tie-
rap.
NOTE!
To avoid reservoir malfunction, when using
hose clamps do not overtighten
10
Clamp the reservoir hose to the wheel hous-
ing and make sure that you have clearance
between the wheel and the hose..
11
Before fitting the wheel make sure that you
have secured both the reservoir hose and
the brake line properly, so there are clear-
ances to wheels, brakes etc.

Follow the mounting instruction 1-11 on the
opposite side of the car.
