1.2 Safety rules
The UPS system operates with mains, batteries or
bypass power carrying high currents and volt-
age. The correctly installed UPS system is
grounded to earth and IP 20 rated against electric
shocks and foreign objects when all dead fronts
are in place. Installation and service should be
carried out by the manufacturer’s qualified tech-
nicians or their certified service partners.
COMMISSIONING AND OPERATIONS
INSIDE THE UPS MUST BE CARRIED OUT
BY A CERTIFIED SERVICE ENGINEER OF
THE MANUFACTURER OR BY AN AGENT
CERTIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
BY NOT FULFILLING THIS OBLIGATION,
THE PRODUCT MAY LOSE ITS WARRANTY

put switch and Manual Bypass switch.
• Monitoring of the UPS system by the central
graphical display and the UPS Module by the lo-
cal control panel.
• Remote monitoring of the UPS system by SNMP,
Modbus and I/O relays interfaces
The user must follow the precautions and only
perform the operations described. Also in these
measures the operator of the UPS System must
observe the instructions in this manual. Any devi-
ations from the instructions could be dangerous
to the user or cause accidental load loss.
THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT BE HELD
RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES CAUSED THROUGH
INCORRECT MANIPULATION OF THE UPS SYSTEM.

The UPS must be installed according to the rec-
ommendations in this manual. To operate the UPS
at peak efficiency, your installation site should
satisfy the environmental parameters outlined in
this manual. Excessive amount of dust in the op-
erating environment of UPS may cause damage or
lead to malfunction. The UPS should be always
protected from the outside weather and sun-
shine. If you intend to operate the system at an al-
titude higher than 1000 meters above sea level,
contact your local sales or service office for im-
portant information about high altitude opera-
tion. The operating environment must meet the
weight, airflow, size and clearance requirements
specified in the technical datasheet.
The basic environmental requirements of the UPS
system are:
Ambient Temperature Range 
Recommended Operating Range 
Maximum Relative Humidity 
The UPS cabinet uses forced air cooling to regu-
late the internal temperature of components. Air
inlets are located at the front of the cabinet, and
outlets at the top of the cabinet. You must allow
clearance on the top of the cabinet for proper air
circulation. Refer to the chapter "9.2 UPS loca-
tion".

2.1
Declaration of safety compliance and EC marking
The primary function of the ABB UPS covered by
the above standards is to ensure continuity of an
AC power source. The UPS may also be used to
improve the quality of the power source by keep-
ing it within specified characteristics. The UPS
has been developed over a wide range of power
ranges, from 50kW to 1.25MW to satisfy require-
ments for availability and quality of power to vari-
ety of IT equipment and devices.
Furthermore, the ABB manufacturer is certified
successfully in every area according to the model
of the International Standard:
ISO 9001/EN 29001. Certification of the UPS with
the operating performance according to the stan-
dard IEC 62040-3 and VDE 0558 Part 530 is ac-
complished.

The control and monitoring communication for
the parallel UPS units are secured by using a
ring-bus communication. The ring-bus technique
loops back the parallel communication cable from
the last frame in the system. This introduces an
alternative communication path in case one cable
in between two UPS units is disconnected for
whatever reason.
