2 Safety and Dangers
Use inverters according to their intended use.
Use inverters in original and technically fully intact condition
without unauthorised modifications.
Ensure that exclusively qualified electrician carry out the
assembly and installation work described in this installation and
operating manual.
Ensure that inverters are installed and serviced by qualified
specialists only.
Ensure that the following is observed when mounting and
connecting the inverter and the PV plant:
t directives and rules applicable in the respective country
t regulations stipulated by trade associations and inspection
authorities and agencies
t technical connection conditions (TAB) of the relevant energy
supplier
t national and international rules and regulations
Mount inverters exclusively in specified position.
Ensure that all protection devices are fully operational.
Verify that ventilation openings are not blocked or covered.
 Protect inverters from direct sunlight.
Prior to the installation, ensure that the inverter is de-energised.
Observe conditions of use (see 15 Technical Data).
2.1 Disconnection devices
Disconnection devices
ÃŽ permit disconnecting the inverter from the power source during
operation.
ÃŽ protect current-carrying conductors and other system
components from power surges and system malfunctions.
ÃŽ safely switch off the inverter for maintenance and repairs.
Note
DIEHL Controls recommends installing AC circuit breakers and DC
switches as suitable for the system to facilitate maintenance and
repairs of the inverter.
Ensure that the inverter is switched off according to the local and
national regulations for electrical systems.
Ensure that the disconnection devices are rated sufficiently for
the voltages and currents they are exposed to.
Ensure that the disconnection device is easily accessible and
operable.
Ensure that no contact with current-carrying components is
possible when operating the disconnection device.
 Mark disconnection device as such.

Safety and Dangers
Installation and operating manual: PLATINUM inverter H
Version 01/2012
Mat. No. 753 840-AA
2.2 Overcurrent protection devices
Overcurrent protection devices, fuses or circuit breakers prevent the
circuit conductors from overheating as a result of overload, short
circuit or earth fault.
Ensure that there is an overcurrent protection device on every live
wire.
If a fuse blows or a circuit breaker trips:
 Determine cause of tripping.
 Contact service if necessary.
Note
To detect leakage currents and interrupt fault parts, DIEHL Controls
recommends installing a type B residual current device (earth leakage
circuit breaker) on the supply side of the inverter.
Choose a protection type suitable for the system.
AC fuses
AC fuses
ÃŽ protect the supply conductors between inverter and utility grid.
ÃŽ are not part of the scope of supply.
Observe local and national electrical regulations regarding the
rating of the AC fuses.

Installation and operating manual: PLATINUM inverter H
Version 01/2012
Mat. No. 753 840-AA
2.3 Overvoltage protection devices
Overvoltage protection devices protect sensitive equipment from
voltage surges.
PLATINUM H inverters are equipped with temperature-protected
metal oxide varistors (TMOV) on both the DC and the AC side which
conduct excessive current from voltage surges to the earth.
For PV plants mounted in open or exposed environments:
Take additional protective measures on both the DC and the AC
side to prevent these conductors from acting as lightning rods.
If conductors are exposed to transients, these conductors limit the
effectiveness of surge arresters.
To keep surge arresters effective:
Install one or more surge arresters in systems with long
conductors.

3 Intended Use
Use the inverter exclusively to feed photovoltaically converted
solar energy into the public 230 V/50 Hz mains.
Do not use the inverter in autonomous power systems.
Do not use the inverter in vehicles.
Do not use inverters in explosive atmospheres (flour dust,
sawdust etc.).
Do not use inverters in atmospheres where the ammonia
concentration of the air exceeds 20 ppm.
 Observe warranty conditions.
Note
If these warranty conditions and the information contained in this
installation and operating manual are not observed, all warranty
claims will expire.

switching off the inverter and secure it against
switching on (AC circuit breaker).
Maximum allowed fuse on alternating voltage side:
40 A.
Verify that galvanic isolation between the photovoltaic
generator circuit and the AC circuit is maintained by
the way the cables are run.
Observe the trade associations' safety regulations.
Danger
Danger to life due to high DC voltage!
Open bottom cover of inverter exclusively if inverter is
de-energised and switched off.
Prior to connecting the inverter, verify that voltage is
present to the generator-side DC port.
Prior to connecting the inverter, verify that the DC
voltage polarity is correct.
Wear insulating protective clothing and face
protection if DC input.
Remove DC cable exclusively if inverter is out of
operation and DC switch is deactivated.
Use exclusively original MC4 removing tools for
removing cables.

Installation and operating manual: PLATINUM inverter H
Version 01/2012
Mat. No. 753 840-AA
For grid-connected systems:
If not installed, install fuses and protection devices required.
t Switches or disconnectors for separation from power
sources
t Fuses or disconnectors to protect conductors against
overheating
t Overvoltage protection to protect system against voltage
surges
Caution
Lack of performance and functionality due to
inappropriate cables!
Ensure that wire cross section areas and fuses
conform to VDE 100 Part 430.
For DC lines, use wire cross section areas of at least
6 mm
2
.
Ensure that the maximum AC cable resistance of
0.5 Ω is not exceeded.
Caution
Material damage due to excessive voltage!
Make sure that the maximum DC voltage is not
exceeded.
Ensure that earthed PV cables are exclusively
connected to the earth terminal of the AC side.
Caution
Risk of burns due to hot surfaces!
After a longer operation with high power, housing
temperatures of > 60 °C are possible.
 Do not touch hot surfaces.
