2 PURPOSE AND CHARACTERISTICS
The Cobra4 Sensor-Unit “Pressure, 7 bar absolute” is used to
measure the absolute pressure. Depending on the type of
application, the Cobra4 Sensor-Unit can be connected to the
following measurement data recording devices for transfer-
ring the measured values:
- Cobra4 Wireless-Link (12601-00) for the wireless data
transfer to a computer
- Cobra4 USB-Link (12610-00) for the data transfer to a
computer via a USB cable
- Cobra4 Junior-Link (12615-00) for the data transfer to a
computer via a USB cable
-
Hand-held measuring instrument Cobra4 Mobile-Link
(12620-00).
For the absolute pressure measurement, the Sensor-Unit is
equipped with a pressure sensor. In order to be able to con-
nect it to various types of devices and instruments, the sen-
sor is equipped with a sturdy metal connector with an outer
diameter of 8 mm. Via this connector, the pressure sensor
can be connected to all kinds of measurement locations via a
suitable connecting tube (e.g. rubber tube, vacuum, inner di-
ameter 6 mm; part no.: 39286-00). For safety reasons, such
a tube connection should always be secured with suitable
tube clamps (see chapter 8 - Accessories).
3 FUNCTIONAL AND OPERATING ELEMENTS
3.2 Operating elements
The Cobra4 Sensor-Unit “Pressure, 7 bar absolute” has no
manual operating elements. Its operation is controlled by the
hand-held measuring instrument Cobra4 Mobile-Link or by a
computer if it is connected via a Cobra4 USB-Link, Cobra4
Junior-Link, or Cobra4 Wireless-Link as soon as the connec-
tion between the Cobra4 Sensor-Unit “Pressure, 7 bar abso-
lute” and one of the four measurement data recording devic-
es is set up.
3.2 Sensor interface
The measured pressure values can be read out of the Sen-
sor-Unit with a maximum data rate of 200 measurements per
seconds (200 Hz). Just like all of the other settings, the de-
sired measuring frequency is set via the connected mea-
surement data recording devices.
4 OPERATING NOTES
In combination with the respective data transfer devices (Co-
bra4 Wireless-Link, Cobra4 USB-Link, Cobra4 Junior-Link,
and Cobra4 Mobile-Link), the Cobra4 Sensor-Unit “Pressure,
7 bar absolute” fulfils the technical requirements that are
summarised in the current guidelines of the European Com-
munity. The characteristics of the product entitle it to bear the
CE mark.
The unit must be used under the supervision of an expert and
in the electromagnetically controlled environment at research,
teaching, and training facilities (schools, universities, insti-
tutes, and laboratories).
This means that, in such an environment, radio transmission
devices, e.g. mobile phones, should not be used in the direct
vicinity of the unit. The connected cables must not be longer
than 2 m. Electrostatic charges or similar electromagnetic
phenomena (HF, bursts, indirect lightning discharge, etc.)
may affect the unit so that it will not work within the specified
data range.
The following measures reduce or eliminate potential interfe-
rences: avoid carpets; provide equipotential bonding; perform
the experiments on a conductive, earthed surface; use
shields and shielded cables. Do not use radiofrequency
transmitters (radio sets, mobile phones) in the direct vicinity
of the unit.
5 OPERATION
This section describes the start-up of the Cobra4 Sensor-Unit
“Pressure, 7 bar absolute” and the recording of measurement
data.
Please read this section carefully in order to avoid problems
or malfunctions.
5.1 Start-up
Connect the Cobra4 Sensor-Unit “Pressure, 7 bar absolute”
to one of the four possible measurement data recording de-
vices via the 15-pin connector. The Cobra4 Sensor-Unit is
immediately ready for use, since its power supply is ensured
via the measurement data recording devices. More informa-
tion concerning the control of the measurement data record-
ing process can be found in the operating instructions of the
measurement data recording devices Mobile-Link, USB-Link,
Junior-Link, and Wireless-Link.
When performing the measurements in combination with a
PC, please ensure the current version of the “measure” soft-
ware package and of the Cobra4 module are installed.

5.2 Recording of pressure values
The absolute pressure is measured with a pressure sensor
that is integrated in the housing of the Sensor-Unit. To en-
sure easy connection to all kinds of experiment equipment, it
is equipped with a metal connector. Via this connector, the
current atmospheric pressure, for instance, can be measured
directly. If the pressure is to be measured in a closed experi-
ment set-up, the pressure sensor must be connected to the
equipment via a tube. Since pressure sensors should be po-
sitioned as closely to the measurement location as possible,
this connecting tube should be as short as possible. In addi-
tion, it should be able to safely withstand the pressures that
can be expected during the measurement. For safety rea-
sons, the tube connection should be secured with suitable
tube clamps.
The Sensor-Unit has two measuring ranges that can be dis-
tinguished in terms of the maximum pressure that can be
measured and also in terms of their resolution. The optimum
measuring range for a specific measurement can be selected
via the device-integrated menu if the Cobra4 Mobile-Link is
used. If the Sensor-Unit is used in combination with a Cobra4
USB-Link, Cobra4 Junior-Link, or Cobra4 Wireless-Link, the
measuring range must be selected via the “measure” soft-
ware.
