1 Installing Windows software
This chapter describes installing software and setting up printing from a
Windows-based computer running Windows 95, Windows 3.1x, or Windows NT 4.0.
The general steps for installing the DocuColor 40 CP software are:
Install the Adobe PostScript printer driver and PostScript Printer Description files
(PPDs) for all Windows systems.
Set up the printer driver to communicate with the DocuColor 40 CP.
For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 only, install the DocuColor utilities
(Downloader and Print Calibrator).
Configure the connection for Downloader and Print Calibrator.
Copy additional color reference and application files from the User Software CD as
needed.
Installing Windows software
The Instalrs folder on the User Software CD contains the following installer folders:
Calib—Print Calibrator installer
Download—Downloader installer
Ps_drvr—Adobe PostScript printer driver installers and DocuColor 40 CP PPD files
for all supported Windows systems
In addition, the User Software CD includes various color files. These files can be
copied or installed from the CD and placed in the appropriate locations on your hard
disk (see “Copying color files from the User Software CD” on page 39):
ICM printer profiles
Separation Tables and a monitor settings file for use with Adobe Photoshop
PostScript CMYK reference file
PostScript PANTONE Coated Color Reference file
RGB color reference files for specifying colors from Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

2 Installing User Software on a Windows Computer
Downloading printer files with the Installer WebTool
Installers for the DocuColor 40 CP printer files can be downloaded from the
DocuColor 40 CP with the Installer WebTool (if the site administrator has enabled
Internet access to the DocuColor 40 CP). For instructions, see “Using the Installer
WebTool” on page 58.
Once you download the installers, the installation process is identical to installing from
the User Software CD.
Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a PostScript printer
To set up the DocuColor 40 CP as a PostScript printer, you need a PostScript printer
driver and the appropriate DocuColor 40 CP PPD file.
Install the appropriate Adobe PostScript printer driver, included with the
DocuColor 40 CP user software. All drivers are capable of providing access to all
DocuColor 40 CP features; in addition, the Adobe PostScript printer drivers for
Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 supports PostScript 3.
The following procedures are specific to each version of Windows.
Setting up PostScript printing with Windows 95
You can use the following procedure whether you are installing from the User Software
CD or with installer files downloaded using the Installer WebTool.
N
OTE
:
If you have problems setting up the DocuColor 40 CP, install another
PostScript printer such as the Apple LaserWriter, and then install the
DocuColor 40 CP.
