INTRODUCTION
The soup maker is a high quality blender with a heating element built into the base.
The soup making function is pre-programmed into the electronic circuitry inside. The
product also has a pulse function ideal for making juice etc. Unlike other soup makers
onthemarket,thisonebenetsfromastainlesssteelscreeninthemiddlethatallows
the user to make chunky soup.
SENSORS
The soup maker is equipped with numerous sensors that detect things like the pres-
ence of liquid and whether the lid or jug is properly in place. The machine will bleep to
alert the user that the lid needs replacing or that liquid should be added etc.
BEFORE FIRST USE
Unpack the soup maker and remove all packaging. It is a good idea to practice as-
sembling/dis-assembling the blender/screen assembly to become more familiar with it
beforeyourrstsoupmakingsession.
The soup maker will need to be cleaned to remove any factory residues before it is
used to make soup. This is an ideal time to become familiar with the soup maker. Let’s
make “water soup” - not very tasty but it will clean the machine!

heating operations over the next 25 minutes or so. When the programme is complete
the machine will emit a series of long beeps. Unplug from mains and discard the water
(it will be hot so be careful). Allow the jug to cool. The soup maker is now ready!
SHOPPING LIST
Before making any soup you are going to need some ingredients. In this book there
are 4 recipes for soup and 1 for juice. These will cover all the techniques required to
get the best out of the soup maker and will allow you to adapt the thousands of soup
recipes out there. All the soup recipes require either chicken, beef or vegetable stock.
You can use pre-made stock but it is usually better to use a stock cube.
HERBS
The herbs used in these recipes are the dried variety but you can use equivalent
amounts of fresh herbs instead.
VEGETABLES
Onions, celery, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes (tinned), leaks, potatoes

MEAT
One of the recipes has a meat option (chicken). We do not recommend cooking raw
meats in the soup maker because the process time is only 25 minutes. Whilst this
shorttimeisgreatforkeepingtheavoursandvitaminsofvegetables,itmightnotbe
enough time to cook certain types of meat. Any recipe that requires meat will need to

OTHER INGREDIENTS
Cream (single), olive oil, pepper
LET’S MAKE SOUP!

the soup maker is a good one and this is the easiest recipe. Even if mushroom soup
isn’tyourfavourite,werecommendyoutrythisonerst.
All recipes serve 2 as a main course or 4 as a starter
MUSHROOM SOUP (with Chicken option)
ingredients:
500ml water
1 x chicken stock cube
200gmushrooms(nelychopped)
100gonion(nelychopped)
1 tsp thyme
1⁄4tspblackpepper
1 tbsp olive oil
single cream
additional ingredients for chicken option:
100g chicken (You can use raw but pre-cooked chicken breast or left-overs are easier)
Butter for frying the chicken
Method: Remove the lid from the blender jug and make sure the screen is in place.
Add 500ml of water to the jug (up to the MIN mark).
Finely chop the mushrooms (a food processor or mini chopper is ideal for this). Re-
move 50g of the chopped mushrooms and sprinkle them into the jug OUTSIDE the
screen. Don’t put any more than 50g outside the screen as this could interfere with the
heating function.
Place the lid onto the jug and lock into place – observing the arrows on the lid. Remove
the CUP from the lid.
Finley chop about 100g of onion and put it into the jug via the hole so it goes inside the
screen. They should come about 1/3 of the way up the screen. Break up the stock cube
and add to the inside of the screen. Add the dried thyme and black pepper. Fill the
remaining space in the screen with the chopped mushrooms (you might have a little left
overdependinghownelytheyarechopped).Add1bspofoliveoilonthetop.
Replace the CUP in the lid. NOTE: avoid compressing the ingredients in the screen or
they may become lodged there.
We’re ready to go! Plug the soup maker in and press the ON button followed by the
SOUP button. While you are waiting eagerly for your soup (it’ll be 25 mins) – read on...
Things to look out for
Sincethismaybeyourrsttimeusinganapplianceofthistype,youmightbecurious
as to what’s going on once the SOUP button has been pressed. The Soup Maker will
heat the liquid outside the screen and blend the contents inside the screen at various
times.Astheingredientsbecomepulverisedbytheblendertheywilllterintotheliquid
outside the screen. The 50g of chopped mushrooms you added outside the screen will
remain in tact – adding some nice texture to the soup.
In most cases all the ingredients inside the screen will work their way down to the
blender blades as they become pulverised. On some occasions though, you may need
to give them a little nudge. That’s what the food pusher accessory is for.
If you tried to remove the lid during the soup making process, the machine would stop
and reset the programme. This is to prevent the user from being injured by hot liquids.
However, you CAN remove the CUP in the lid at any time. The food pusher accessory
can be placed into the hole to dislodge any ingredients. The food pusher is designed
so it wont reach the blender blades – which is a good thing! NEVER use anything other
than the food pusher accessory for this!
The Chicken Option (great name for a movie?)
We can’t recommend cooking meat in the Soup Maker but since it does 90% of the
work of making soup, it’s no real bother to add the Chicken Option as it also applies to
other meats.
Add some butter to a non stick saucepan and fry 100g of chicken cut into very small
piecesuntilcooked.WhentheSoupMakerhasnishedmakingthemushroomsoup,
unplug it from the mains and pour the contents of the jug over the chicken in the sauce-
pan. Stir in 50-100ml of single cream according to taste. Allow to simmer gently for 5
minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve immediately.

If you just want mushroom soup without the chicken: When the Soup Maker has
stopped and emits the long beeps, unplug it. Removed the lid and CAREFULLY
remove the screen. Using a wooden or plastic spoon, stir in 50ml of single cream.
Serve immediately
A note about the heating: In the soup maker, the element relies on being able to
circulate the hot liquids properly. If there are dense solids in direct contact with the
element, it could put the machine in FAULT mode. If this happens it will stop the pro-
gramme and emit 4 beeps in quick succession. This is to prevent damage to the ele-
ment. This is also why we cannot put any more than 50g solid ingredients outside the
screen.Ifthishappensyouronlyoptionistonishthesoupinasaucepan.
Tomato & Basil Soup
This recipe highlights the techniques to use when using “wet” ingredients – in this case
canned tomatoes.

down, add half the other tin. Add water until the level reaches 1000ml. Mix the onion,
celery and grated carrot together and add to the jug. Add the garlic (no need to chop
because the blender will do that), add 1 tsp basil and 1tbsp olive oil.
If there is any room left inside the screen, top up with the remaining tomatoes.
Replace the CUP into the lid. Plug the Soup Maker in and press the ON button followed
by the SOUP button. Process time is about 25 mins.
When the soup is done, unplug the Soup Maker, remove the lid, carefully remove the
screen and stir in 50ml of cream. Add a dash of Worcester sauce if desired.
Serve immediately.
Potato & Leek Soup
ingredients:
500ml water
1 x vegetable stock cube 150g potatoes
150g leeks
1 clove garlic
100g onion
1 tbsp olive oil
single cream
Method: Add the water to the jug and put the lid on, Remove the CUP and crumble the
stock cube into the screen. Finely chop the potatoes, leeks and onion (a food proces-
sor or mini chopper is idea for this). Add them to the jug. Add the garlic and olive oil.
Replace the CUP. Plug the soup maker in and press the ON button followed by the
SOUP button.

Carrot & Coriander Soup
ingredients:
500ml water
1 x vegetable (or chicken) stock cube 100g onion
100g potato
200g carrots
1 tsp dried coriander
1tsp ground coriander (optional) 1tbsp olive oil
single cream (optional)
Method: Add the water to the jug. Finely chop the potatoes, carrots and onion together
(a food processor or mini chopper is idea for this). If you want some texture to your
soup add 50g of the chopped vegetables to the OUTSIDE of the screen – but no more
than 50g please. Replace the lid and remove the CUP. Crumble the stock cube into the
screen. Add them to the jug to the inside of the screen. Add the chopped vegetables.
Add the garlic and olive oil. If Replace the CUP. Plug the soup maker in and press the
ON button followed by the SOUP button.

Juice
The soup maker has a pulse function, which can also be used for making citrus juice.
The screen keeps the larger solids away from the juice.
When making juice you must always start with 500ml of water in the jug and you should
ALWAYS use the screen. If you try to use without the screen the liquid will slosh around
the jug and most likely splash out of the spout.
Method: Put 500ml water in the jug so it reaches the MIN level. With the screen in
place,tthelidandremovetheCUP.Cut2oranges(andorgrapefruit)intoquarters
and remove the peel. Put the fruit quarters into the screen. If you have a sweet tooth

repeatedly until the fruit has been pulverised. If necessary use the food pusher acces-
sory to gently push any lodged fruit toward the blade.
You can add more fruit pieces (or grapes or other juicy fruit) until the liquid level
reaches the MAX (1500ml) level.
Keep the screen in place when pouring.

In 1933 Swan were the first to develop an
electric heating element t hat could be
immersed in water.
This led to the Swan
kettle range that could boil up to six pints
of water in just over nine minutes - pretty
hot for the time! These days it takes about
two minutes for a Swan kettle to boil.
