DoNOTstorefuelcloserthanspecifiedclearancestocombustiblesorwithinthespaceneeded
forloadingthestoveandashremoval.
Thisunitwasdesignedforoperationonlywiththeloadingdoorclosedandtightlylatched.
Operatingthisunitwiththeloadingdoorlatchedlooselyoropenwillallowexcessive
combustionairtoreachthefireandwillresultindangerouslyhightemperatures.Highunit
temperaturescandamagetheunit,voidthewarrantyorignitecreosotedepositedintheflue
systembyprevious,slowburningfires.
Startingyourfire:
Besuretheairintakecontrolonthedoorisfullyopen,aswellasthedamperinthestovepipe.
Placeseveralsheetsofrumpledpaperinthecenterofthefirebox,thenplaceapproximately8‐
10smallpiecesofdrykindlingoverthetopofthepaper,forminga‘teepee’shape.Ifyouplace
anyheatingwoodinthefireboxatthistime,chooseverysmallpieces.
Youmayalsochoosesolid‘firestarters’tohelpstartyourfire.(Remember,NOflammable
liquidssuchaslighterfluidorgasmaybeused!)
Toavoidbackdraftfromcoldairoutsidethestructure,youshouldwarmthechimneypriorto
ignitingthewoodinthefirebox.Twistafewsheetsofpaperintoatorchshape,thenlightit
andholditascloseaspossibletotheentryoftheflue,insidethecombustionchamber,to
warmthechimney.USECAUTIONsothatyoudonotburnyourself.Onceanupdraftintothe
flueisinitiated,youmaylightyourstovebylightingthepaperandkindlingteepeethatisinside
thefirebox.
Leavethestovedoorslightlyopenedfor5‐10m i nutes,oruntilgoodcombustionisachieved.
DONOTleavethefirewhilethedoorisopened.Atthistimeyoumayclosethedoorand
progressivelyadjusttheaircontroltoachievethepreferredintensityofthefire.
Onceyouhaveabedofembers,reloadtheunitwithlargerwood.Forsafetyandbest
performance,youshouldkeepyourwoodloadnohigherthan6inches.
Usethecirculardraftcontrolonthestovedoortoregulatetheintakeairforyourfire.We
recommendinstallingamagneticthermometeronyourstovepipe,approximately18”(46cm)
abovethestove’ssurface.Theidealtemperatureofthefluepipeisbetween250⁰Fand500⁰F
