INSTALLATION
Beforeusingyourstoveinthetent,besuretocurethepaint.Burnthestoveinasafeopen
area(suchasyourdrivewayoryard)for23hourstoallowtheoilsandpaintfromthe
manufacturingprocesstocure.Besuretosetupyourpipesothatitcancure,also(seepipe
connection,below).BeginthefireasakindlingfireandDONOTachievehightemperatures
quickly,asthepaintneedstimetocureslowly.
Oncetheunitisassembledandinplaceandtheminimumclearancesareacquired,itmustbe
coupledtoanychimneywithaconnector(stovepipe).Verifytheclearancebetweenyourpipe
andthesurroundingcombustibles;ifthepipemanufacturer’sclearanceorlocalcodecannotbe
obtained(usuallyaminimumof18”or457mm),youmayuseaninsulatedstovepipeor
thermalshield.READANDFOLLOWTHEPIPEMANUFACTURER’SINSTRUCTIONS.
Thisstovetakes4”diameterstovepipe.
PipeConnection:Yourpipesystemshouldbeassembledsothatthemalesectionofeachpipe
isorienteddown(maleendtowardthefloor).Attacheachofthesectionstogetherwiththree
sheetmetalscrews,placedequidistantlyaroundthepipe.Thepipesshouldbeshortand
straight.Anysectionsinstalledhorizontallymustslopeatleast¼”perfoot,withthelower
sectiontowardthestove.
Yourstovepipeshouldextendatleast6”abovetheridgeofthetent.Thisreducesthe
possibilityofsparkholesbeingburntintheroof.
CAUTION:Theuseofthreesheetmetalscrewsoneachsectionofpipeisparticularlyimportant
inwindyconditions.Besuretostakedownyourtentroofandridgetopreventmovementof
thetentandroof.
Installationofa‘barometricdraftstabilizer’(fireplaceregister)ontheexhaustsystemis
prohibited.
However,installationofadraftdamperisrecommended,inthesectionofpipethatisclosest
tothestovebody.
Asparkarrestorandraincaponthetopsectionofpipeisalsorecommended.
CAUTION:Besuretocheckthesparkarrestordailyandcleanasnecessary,asacloggedspark
arrestorcancausesmoketospilloutofthestovedoororcouldevencauseafireinthestove
pipe.
Followthepipemanufacturer’sandthedampermanufacturer’sinstructionswheninstalling
thedamperinthechimneypipe.

Besuretohavethedamperinafullyopenpositionwhenyoustartafireoropenthestove’s
door,toreducesmokebillowing(andyourtentandclothesfromsmellinglikesmoke).Open
thestovedoorslowlyeachtimeyouopenit.
CAUTION:Themoreyouusethedampertoreduceairflow,usethedoordrafttoreduceair
flowand/orusesoftormoistwood,themorecreosotebuildupyouwillexperienceinthestove
pipeandsparkarrestor.Besuretocheckyourstovepipeandthesparkarrestorregularlyfor
creosote,andcleanasnecessary.DRYhardwoodsburnthemostefficientlyandprovidethe
mostheat.
OPERATION
Firebox:
Althoughyourstovedoesnotcomewithfirebrick,itisrecommendedthatyouconsider
installingandusingfirebricktoprolongthelifeofyourstove.Weofferafirebrickkitasan
accessory,aswellasanalternativeBottomSaversteelinsertthatwillprolongthelifeofthe
stove’sfirebox,aswell.
Tip:DONOTstorethestovewithashesleftinthefirebox,orprematurerustanddegradation
ofthefireboxwilloccur.
SolidFuel:
Yourstoveisdesignedtoburnwoodonlynoothercombustibles(trashorothercombustible
materials)shouldbeused.
Differentwoodtypesproducedifferentenergyyields.Besurethatyourwoodisasdryas
possible‐manyproblemsrelatedtooperatingawoodstovearecausedbythefactthatthe
woodistoodamp.
Someproblemsfromusingdampwoodinclude:IgnitionorStartupproblems;Creosote
buildupandchimneyfires;Lowenergy(i.e.heat)yield;Incompletecombustionofthewood
Beforeyourfirstfire:
Besuretocureyourstoveandpipe(seeINSTALLATIONsection)
Asstatedpreviously,firebrickortheBottomSaversteelfireboxinsertshouldbeused,to
prolongthelifeofthefirebox.
NEVERusegasoline,gasolinetypelanternfuel,kerosene,charcoallighterfluidorsimilarliquids
tostartor‘freshenup’afireinthisheater.Keepallsuchliquidswellawayfromtheheater
whileinuse.Additionally,neverapplyfirestartertohotembersinthestove.Donotuse

chemicalsorfluidstostartthefire.Donotburnflammablefluidssuchasgasoline,NAPHTHAor
engineoil.
Besurethechimneyandfluepipearewellinstalledaccordingthepipemanufacturer’s
directions.
Adheretoallclearancestocombustiblematerial,aswellasfloorprotectionrequirements,
mentionedinthismanual.
DoNOTstorefuelcloserthanspecifiedclearancestocombustiblesorwithinthespaceneeded
forloadingthestoveandashremoval.
Thisunitwasdesignedforoperationonlywiththeloadingdoorclosedandtightlylatched.
Operatingthisunitwiththeloadingdoorlatchedlooselyoropenwillallowexcessive
combustionairtoreachthefireandwillresultindangerouslyhightemperatures.Highunit
temperaturescandamagetheunit,voidthewarrantyorignitecreosotedepositedintheflue
systembyprevious,slowburningfires.
Startingyourfire:
Besuretheairintakecontrolonthedoorisfullyopen,aswellasthedamperinthestovepipe.
Placeseveralsheetsofrumpledpaperinthecenterofthefirebox,thenplaceapproximately8
10smallpiecesofdrykindlingoverthetopofthepaper,forminga‘teepee’shape.Ifyouplace
anyheatingwoodinthefireboxatthistime,chooseverysmallpieces.
Youmayalsochoosesolid‘firestarters’tohelpstartyourfire.(Remember,NOflammable
liquidssuchaslighterfluidorgasmaybeused!)
Toavoidbackdraftfromcoldairoutsidethestructure,youshouldwarmthechimneypriorto
ignitingthewoodinthefirebox.Twistafewsheetsofpaperintoatorchshape,thenlightit
andholditascloseaspossibletotheentryoftheflue,insidethecombustionchamber,to
warmthechimney.USECAUTIONsothatyoudonotburnyourself.Onceanupdraftintothe
flueisinitiated,youmaylightyourstovebylightingthepaperandkindlingteepeethatisinside
thefirebox.
Leavethestovedoorslightlyopenedfor510m i nutes,oruntilgoodcombustionisachieved.
DONOTleavethefirewhilethedoorisopened.Atthistimeyoumayclosethedoorand
progressivelyadjusttheaircontroltoachievethepreferredintensityofthefire.
Onceyouhaveabedofembers,reloadtheunitwithlargerwood.Forsafetyandbest
performance,youshouldkeepyourwoodloadnohigherthan6inches.
Usethecirculardraftcontrolonthestovedoortoregulatetheintakeairforyourfire.We
recommendinstallingamagneticthermometeronyourstovepipe,approximately18”(46cm)
abovethestove’ssurface.Theidealtemperatureofthefluepipeisbetween250⁰Fand500⁰F

(121⁰C‐260⁰C).Belowthisrangecanencouragecreosotebuildup,andabovethisrangecan
wasteheatandpotentiallyleadtooverfiring.
CAUTION:Rememberthatwoodcombustionconsumesambientoxygen;asmentioned
previously,besuretoalwayshavesomesortofanoutsideairintakesuchasacrackeddooror
openedwindow.
England’sStoveWorksalwaysrecommendstheuseofasmokedetectorandcarbonmonoxide
detectorwithanywoodstove.Carbonmonoxideisanodorless,colorlessgaswhichcanbe
deadly.Installingacarbonmonoxidedetectorandbeingawareofthesymptomsofcarbon
monoxidepoisoningcanhelpreducetheriskofcarbonmonoxiderelatedissues.
Cooking:
Oneoftheexcellentfunctionsofthiscampstoveisforcooking,andtheoffsetflueenablesas
muchcookingspaceaspossible.
CAUTION:RememberthatthetopofthestovewillgetveryHOT.
Useapanforcookingfoodonthetopofyourstove.Donotcookfooddirectlyonthestove
top.Ifyoufindthatyoumustcookdirectlyonthestovetop,youshouldplacethefoodona
pieceofstainlesssteel(forrustprevention)thatcanberemovedandwashed,whenfinished.If
rustingdoesoccurovertime,youmayorderareplacementhightemperaturespraypaintfrom
England’sStoveWorkstorepaintyourunit(seeMaintenance,below).
MAINTENANCE
AshRemoval:Inspectthefireboxdailyforashaccumulation,andtoinsurethefirebrick(orthe
BottomSaversteelinsert)areinplaceandnotdamaged.
“Ashesshouldbeplacedinametalcontainerwithatightfittinglid.Theclosedcontainerof
ashesshouldbeplacedonanoncombustiblefloorortheground,wellawayfromall
combustiblematerials,pendingfinaldisposal.Iftheashesaredisposedofbyburialinsoilor
otherwiselocallydispersed,theyshouldberetainedintheclosedcontaineruntilallcinders
havebeenthoroughlycooled.”
CAUTION:Keepafireextinguisherhandyatalltimes,includingduringashcleanup.
Remembertostorethestovewithashescleanedfromthefirebox,orprematurerustand
degradationofthefireboxwilloccur.
Asmallopencontainerofadesiccant(i.e.catlitter)inthestovecanhelppreventcorrosion
whenthestoveisnotbeingused;becertaintoremoveitbeforetransportingthestoveor
buildingafire.

Pipe:Inspectthefluesystemtobesureitisproperlyintact.Inspectthepipeandsparkarrestor,
raincap,etc.forcreosotebuildup,andcleanifnecessary.
DoorandGasket:Checkthedoorhandleforproperoperationandtobecertainatightsealis
beingmadebythedoor.
Yourstovehasafiberglassgasketinstalledaroundthedooropening.Checkthistobesureitis
fullyintactandisingoodcondition.Ifthegasketneedstobereplaced,youmaypurchase
replacementgasketfromEngland’sStoveWorks(Part#ACDGKCS).
Other:Visuallyinspectanyotherparts(includingaccessories,options,etc.)forproperfunction.
Finish:Thisnewunithasbeenpaintedatthefactorywithahightemperaturepaintthatshould
retainitsoriginallookforalongtime.Ifrustspotsappear,thespotscanbesandedwithfine
steelwoolandrepainted.Itiscrucialthatyouuseonlyhightemperaturespraypaint(our
proprietarypaintisPart#ACMBSP),asothersmaynotadheretothesurfaceorwithstandthe
hightemperatures.
