Getting started with Document Distributor
After the Document Server software (client and server) is installed on your computer and the
MFP is set up on the network, you are ready to start using the Document Server Admin.
Step 1:
Add Document Servers and MFPs to your Document Server Admin.
Step 2:
Run the test script provided with your Document Server Admin. Verify that the script
recognizes your MFP and Document Servers.
Step 3:
Identify a workflow, break it down into steps, and write your script.

Step 1: Adding Document Servers and MFPs
Adding Document Servers
After you have added the primary document server, during the software installation, you can
add more Document Servers to your Document Server Admin
To add other Document Servers on the network:
1 Click the Add Server icon from the toolbar. The “Add Server” dialog box appears.
2 Type the IP Address or DNS hostname of the new Document Server and then type a
description of the Server (for example, “Bob’s machine”)
The new Document Server appears in the Document Server Admin.
Adding MFPs
To add MFPs to your Document Server Admin:
1 Click the Add MFP icon from the toolbar. The “Add MFP” dialog box appears.
2 Type the IP Address or DNS hostname of the new MFP, and then type a description
of the MFP (for example, “MFP in Print Lab”).

Step 2: Running the test script
Your Document Server Admin comes with sample scripts you can use to make sure all of
your Document Servers and MFPs are communicating with each other.
1 Click the New Profile icon from the toolbar. This launches the MFP ProfileWizard,
which steps you through the following process.
2 Select the Primary Document Server and then click the Script icon.
3 Select the sample script check box.
4 Select the MFP you want to send the script to.
5 Accept the default scan settings.
6 Go to the MFP. Press Fax/Scan or Profile until you see the name of the profile. The
profile name is the same as the script name.
7 Place your document facedown on the scanner bed, and then press Go.
8 Press Stop when you are finished scanning.
9 The MFP prints a confirmation sheet with a list of actions performed and the status of
your profile.

Step 3: Identify a workflow, break it down, and write the script
Now that you have verified that your Document Server, Document Server Admin, and MFP
are all running and communicating properly with each other, you start writing your first script.
For more detailed information, see the Online help or the Script Reference.
1 Read the Introduction chapter of the Script reference. This chapter explains the
script writing process in detail.
2 Identify a workflow in your business.
3 Break the workflow down into steps that correspond to the Actions listed in the Script
reference.
4 Read Writing a script by clicking on the link at left.
