OVERVIEW
STATUS INDICATORS
Processor
Red.
Blinks when VIA is powered up and processor is function-
ing
POE Status
Red.
Off: 48VDC input not present
(required voltage for PoE support). Blinking: 48VDC
input present, but not configured.
Steady: Functioning normally.
Identify
Blue.
Blinks when identify is active.
Fiber//Link
Activity
Amber.
Functional on VIA5F model only. Blinks when SFF module
has valid connected to another device.
The VIA5 and VIA5F gigabit Ethernet switch is
a DIN-mountable, managed switch suitable for
use in entertainment lighting, audio and video
distributions systems. Ideal for use in NEMA
enclosures and as a Power-over-Ethernet
source for connected equipment, such as DXT
DMX/Ether-net gateways, Fresco Show DTP
lighting consoles and Fresco Show WM archi-
tectural controllers.
The VIA5 and VIA5F models feature terminal strips that can
be removed from the card to facilitate easy wiring for power.
Power
The VIA5 and VIA5F are designed to run on a 100W, 48VDC
power supply to ensure the availability of Class 3 PoE on
each of the RJ45 Ethernet ports.
Observe polarity when connecting V+ and V-. A second set
of terminals are provided so power may be daisy-chained to
other VIA5 switches or other Pathport DIN-mountable nodes.
Do not connect 48VDC to DXT inter-face cards that do not sup-
port 48V. The EARTH GROUND terminal must be connected
to the enclosure’s chassis or electrical ground terminal to
ensure EMC compliance.
Ethernet
All network wiring should follow standard Ethernet rules
and be installed by a qualified person. As part of the instal-
lation, all wiring should be certified under the TIA/ EIA-568
standard.
Acuity recommends the use of manufactured rather than
hand-terminated cables. We also recommend terminating
building wire to a female RJ45 cage, and using a male to
male jumper to connect the wiring to the switch.
Disconnect all power before proceeding with installation.
Securely mount DIN rail (if not already installed in the
en-closure). Hook the upper slots on the back of the plastic
extrusion to the DIN rail and then gently but firmly press on
the bottom front corners of the extrusion to snap the module
onto the rail. Do NOT press directly on the PCB card itself.
Connect the power terminal block, after checking that polar-
ity is being observed. The VIA5 will boot up, which may take
15-20 seconds.
Attach required network cables to the RJ45 ports. Connect
the fiber module, if used.
The system is now ready for configuration and testing.
