Notes
Note the following issues when connecting the ETERNUS DX to a server.
3.1 Server Startup Notes
Before turning the server on, check that the ETERNUS DX storage systems are "Ready". If the server is turned
on and they are not "Ready", the server will not be able to recognize the ETERNUS DX storage systems.
Also, when the ETERNUS DX power supply is being controlled by a UPS power supply linkage, make sure that
the ETERNUS DX is never turned off before the connected servers. If this happens, data from the running
server cannot be saved to the ETERNUS DX storage systems, and already saved data may be damaged.
3.2 ETERNUS Multipath Notes
ETERNUS Multipath Driver requirements
Requirement Remarks
ETERNUS Multipath Driver version and patch level V3.0.0 or later, patch 914267-06 or later
Refer to the documentation supplied with each product for installation and setup details.
3.3 MPxIO Notes
MPxIO requirements
Requirement Remarks
Multipath Driver Bundled with OS
When connecting the ETERNUS DX storage systems to a server with MPxIO installed, host responses must
be set for the ETERNUS DX storage systems.
Refer to the "Sun StorEdge Traffic Manager Installation and Configuration Guide" on the Oracle web-site
(http://www.oracle.com) for MPxIO setup details.

tings, refer to the following manuals.

Chapter 7
Setting Up the Server
7.1 For Cards Other than Fujitsu's 3Gbit/s SAS Cards
1Edit the configuration file.
Specify an arbitrary command queue depth (*1) by setting the "sd_max_throttle" parameter in the con-
figuration file ("/etc/system").
If the "sd_max_throttle" parameter does not exist, it should be added.
set sd:sd_max_throttle = 8
*1: Recommended value = 512 ¸ (number of SAS ports that are connected to a single CA port) ¸ num-
ber of LUNs
(Round the result down)
Use the value of "8" if the actual result is lower.
2After editing the configuration file, save it.
The configuration file should also be checked for incorrect settings.
3Execute the following command to reboot the server.
# touch /reconfigure
# /usr/sbin/shutdown -y -g0 -i6

7.2 For Fujitsu's 3Gbit/s SAS Cards
Set up the server according to the following procedure for a single-path configuration.
1Edit the configuration file.
Specify an arbitrary command queue depth (*1) to "max-throttle" in the driver definition file
(/platform/{sun4v|SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise}/kernel/drv/fjulsa.conf).
target#-max-throttle=40;
("#:SCSI ID, 40:" shows the number of data transfer requests that can be issued simultaneously)
# /usr/sbin/shutdown -y -g0 -i6
Do not set "max-throttle" for a multipath connection.

ETERNUS DX Boot using a SAS Card
When using an ETERNUS DX LUN (Logical Unit) as the boot disk, check the "Server Support Matrix" for the
server environment being used, as well as any SAN boot documentation (such as in a system installation
guide) provided with the server.
When an ETERNUS DX LUN is to be used as a boot disk, it must be provided with sufficient capacity to install
the OS.
