Einleitung

Madeira hat den „World‘s best island destination award“ (Weltbestes

Insel-Reiseziel) erhalten.

Der Flughafen Madeira (IATA: FNC, ICAO: LPMA), ehemals bekannt als

Flughafen Santa Catarina und umgangssprachlich Funchal Airport

genannt, ist ein internationaler Flughafen in der Gemeinde Santa

Catarina, Stadt Santa Cruz auf der portugiesischen Inselgruppe von

Madeira.

Der Flughafen war berühmt-berüchtigt für seine kurze Landebahn, die

wegen ihrer Lage direkt am Ozean und umgeben von Bergen selbst für

die erfahrensten Piloten einen schwierigen Anﬂug darstellte. Die

innovative Lösung dieses Problems brachte Funchal 2004 den Outstan-

ding Structure Award der International Association for Bridge and

Structural Engineering ein, mit dem die beeindruckendsten, innovativs-

ten, kreativsten oder auf andere Weise herausragenden Bauwerke

ausgezeichnet werden sollen. Nichtsdestotrotz gilt Funchal noch

immer als einer der gefährlichsten Flughäfen der Welt.

• Prozessor mit 3.0 GHz (Intel Core2Duo empfohlen)

• DirectX 9-kompatible Graﬁkkarte mit min. 1 GB Speicher

Installation

Sie müssen als Systemadministrator angemeldet sein, bevor Sie mit der

Installation von „Madeira X Evolution“ beginnen. Um die Installation

zu starten, legen Sie die DVD in Ihr DVD-Laufwerk ein bzw. starten Sie

die heruntergeladene Installationsdatei, wenn Sie die Downloadversion

erworben haben.

Nach der Sprachauswahl erscheinen zunächst einige Informationen

und die Lizenzbedingungen. Lesen Sie die Informationen bitte

sorgfältig und klicken Sie auf „Weiter“.

Anschließend werden Sie zur Eingabe der Registrierungsdaten aufgefor-

dert.

Bitte geben Sie diese Daten genauso ein, wie sie auf der DVD-Box

aufgedruckt bzw. in der Bestätigungsmail unseres Shops enthalten

sind.

Anschließend wird der Installationsordner automatisch gesucht.

Möchten Sie das Programm in einen anderen Ordner als den vorge-

schlagenen installieren, klicken Sie auf „Ändern“ und geben den

gewünschten Pfad ein.

Es wird jetzt noch einmal eine Zusammenfassung der Installations-

daten angezeigt.

Jetzt werden alle Daten auf die Festplatte kopiert.

Wenn Sie die Installation verändern oder Updates installieren möchten,

benötigen Sie die DVD oder die Installationsdatei des Download-Shops

sowie den Registierungsschlüssel erneut.

Um „Madeira X Evolution“ zu starten, klicken Sie das neue Program-

micon auf Ihrem Desktop.

Mustereinstellungen

Damit die Szenerie korrekt dargestellt wird, MUSS die Musterauﬂö-

sung im FSX und P3D auf 1m eingestellt werden.

Wenn Musterprobleme auftreten

Wenn Probleme mit dem Mesh für ORBX FTX VECTOR auftreten:

Starten Sie die FTX GLOBAL VECTOR Conﬁguration Tool.exe und rufen

Sie Airport Elevation Corrections - Manual Corrections auf. Geben Sie

LPMA und LPPS ein und deaktivieren Sie sie. Speichern Sie.

Öffnen Sie danach Ihren Sim-Ordner, etwa FSX/ORBX/FTX_VECTOR/

FTX VECTOR/FTX VECTOR APT/ FILES ABP_LPMA.BGL und ABP_

LPMA_Default.bgl und APT_LPMA.bgl müssen entfernt oder ihre

Endungen zu .inactive geändert werden.

/FTX VECTOR/FTX VECTOR AEC/ AEC_LPMA.BGL müssen entfernt

oder ihre Endungen zu .inactive geändert werden.

FSX-Einschränkungen

Leider gibt es einige Einschränkungen des Microsoft Flight Simulator

10 (FSX), die dazu führen, das Bodenpolygone nicht in der Luft stehen

bleiben (Madeira-Pfeiler und RWY 05), sodass es zu Flackern kommen

kann. Dieser Fehler kann nicht umgangen werden und wurde in P3D

v2.5 behoben.

Der Avatar Frank

Wenn Sie Prepar3D v3 (oder neuer) nutzen, können Sie Frank, unseren

Piloten, als Avatar benutzen (siehe die P3D v3-Dokumentation für

Informationen zu Avataren). Wenn Sie ein Flugzeug auswählen,

können Sie den Avatar mitladen lassen. Frank kann mit jedem

Flugzeug geladen werden. Er kann still stehen, gehen, rennen, in die

Hocke gehen, gehockt gehen, wieder aufstehen, springen, schwim-

men und fallen; all dies über die normale P3D v3-Steuerung. Um den

Avatar erscheinen zu lassen, nutzen Sie den Befehl [Umsch]+[Strg]+[E]

in einer Außenansicht eines Flugzeugs oder Fahrzeugs. Sie können den

Avatar dann nutzen, um die Szenerie zu erkunden.

Flughafen-Beschreibung

Geschichte

Der Flughafen Madeira wurde am 18. Juli 1968 mit zwei 1600m-

(5249ft-) Landebahnen ofﬁziell eröffnet. Der erste hier landende Flug

war eine TAP Air Portugal Lockheed Constellation mit 80 Passagieren

an Bord.

Ab 1972 wurde Madeira als Ausﬂugsziel beliebter, sodass die Lande-

bahn erweitert werden musste, um modernere und größere Flugzeuge

aufnehmen zu können. Der Flughafen galt als das „Kai Tak Europas“,

da es nur einen Anﬂug auf Landebahn 05 ermöglichte; es wurde

entschieden, die vorhandene Landebahn auszubauen, statt eine neue

anzulegen. In der Zwischenzeit wurde 1973 ein neues Terminal

gebaut, das 500.000 Passagiere abfertigen konnte.

Zwischen 1982 und 1986 wurde die Landebahn in Madeira um 200m

(656ft) auf eine Gesamtlänge von 1800m (5906ft) erweitert; außer-

dem wurden vier weitere Gates eröffnet. Die ursprüngliche Landebahn

war nur 1600m (5249ft) lang, wurde aber 8 Jahre nach dem verunfall-

ten TAP Portugal-Flug 425 1977 erweitert.

Im Jahr 2000 wurde die Landebahn erneut erweitert, diesmal auf

2781m (9124ft), fast das doppelte der ursprünglichen Länge. Da Land

aufzuschütten keine Option war, wurde die Erweiterung auf einer

teilweise über dem Ozean verlaufenden Plattform errichtet, gestützt

von 180 Pfeilern, jeder etwa 70m (230ft) hoch. Dieser Anbau des

Flughafens Madeira wurde von dem brasilianischen Bauunternehmen

Andrade Gutierrez durchgeführt und gilt wegen der Terrain- und

Orographie-Beschaffenheit weltweit als besonders schwierig.

Die neue Landebahn und das Terminal wurden am 6. Oktober 2002

eingeweiht - zu dieser Gelegenheit landete eine Air-Atlantic Iceland

Boeing 747-267B, Registrierung TF-ABA, am Flughafen. Auch wenn es

nur selten vorkommt, machen einige TAP Portugal-Flüge mit A330-

200-Maschinen planmäßige Stops auf Madeira während ihrer Lissa-

bon-Carracas-Lissabon-Route.

Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), den IABSE

Outstanding Structure Award in Shanghai vor: Die Erweiterung der

neuen Landebahn in Funchal gewann den Award 2004 (der Oskar der

Bautechnik).

Die History Channel-Serie „Most Extreme Airports“ stufte Funchal auf

Platz 9 der gefärlichsten Flughäfen der Welt ein sowie auf Platz 3 in

Madeira Airport (IATA: FNC, ICAO: LPMA), formerly known as Santa

Catarina Airport and informally known as Funchal Airport, is an

international airport in the civil parish of Santa Catarina, municipality

of Santa Cruz, in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira.

The airport was once infamous for its short runway which, surrounded

by high mountains and the ocean, made it a tricky landing for even

the most experienced of pilots. Its innovative solution allowed Funchal

to receive the Outstanding Structure Award in 2004 by the Interna-

tional Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, which aims at

recognizing the most remarkable, innovative, creative or otherwise

stimulating structure completed within the last few years. Neverthe-

less, it is still considered one of the most peculiarly perilous airports in

the world.

Installation

You have to be logged in with administrator rights before you start the

installation of “Madeira X Evolution“. To start the installation of

“Madeira X Evolution“ simply insert the DVD into your DVD drive or

run the ﬁle you downloaded from your shop account.

After you have chosen your preferred installation language, the

welcome screen appears and you will be presented with some

important information and the license agreement. Please read it

carefully.

You will be asked to insert your email address and your registration

key. Please insert it exactly the way it was written on the label or in the

conﬁrmation mail you received from your download shop. Please keep

your registration key on a safe place, you will need it again if a new

installation will be necessary.

The installation program will attempt to locate the correct path. If you

wish to install to another location, then you will have to enter the

correct path for installation manually. In order to do this, click on

“Browse“ and navigate to the correct path. Before the installation

program starts to copy the ﬁles onto your hard disc, you will be

presented with all the installation details.

The installation program will now copy all of the “Madeira X Evolu-

tion“ ﬁles onto your hard disk. If you want to make any changes or to

install any updates for this program you will need the DVD or the

installation ﬁle from the download shop and your registration key

again. To run “Madeira X Evolution“ click on the new program icon on

your Windows desktop.

Removing

In order to fully remove “Madeira X Evolution“ run the Aerosoft-

Launcher. Change to the “Library“ and select “Madeira X Evolution“

in the “Scenery“ category. The information about “Madeira X

Evolution“ will appear.

Click on the “Uninstall“ button. The installation program will start to

remove the program from your hard disk.

Technical advice

Mesh settings

In order to display the scenery correctly mesh resolution MUST be set

to 1m in FSX and P3D.

In case of mesh problems

If some problems are reported with mesh for ORBX FTX VECTOR:

Run FTX GLOBAL VECTOR Conﬁguration Tool.exe and go to Airport

Elevation Corrections – Manual conﬁguration type LPMA and LPPS and

DISABLE them. Save.

Then go to your SIM folder example. FSX/ORBX/FTX_VECTOR/

/FTX VECTOR/FTX VECTOR APT/ the ﬁles ABP_LPMA.BGL and

ABP_LPMA_Default.bgl and APT_LPMA.bgl must be removed or

their extension changed to .INACTIVE

/FTX VECTOR/FTX VECTOR AEC/ AEC_LPMA.BGL must be removed or

its extension changed to .INACTIVE

FSX Limitations

Unfortunately there are some limitations of Microsoft Flight Simulator

X (FSX) where ground polygons can’t stay in air (Madeira pillars and

RWY 05 area), so some ﬂickering may occur. This can’t be avoided and

was solved in P3D version 2.5 and higher.

The Avatar Frank

If you are using Prepar3D v3 (or later) you will be able to use Frank,

our pilot, as the avatar (see the P3D v3 documentation about informa-

tion on avatars). When selecting an aircraft you can also select the

avatar to be loaded. You can load Frank with any aircraft. He is able to

stand idle, walk, run, stand to crouch, walk while crouching, crouch to

stand, jump, swim and fall, all using the default P3D v3 commands. To

spawn the avatar go to any external view of an aircraft or vehicle and

use the [Shift]-[Ctrl]-[E] command. You can then use the avatar to

explore the scenery.

Airport Description

History

Madeira Airport was ofﬁcially opened on 18 July 1964, with two

1,600 m (5,249 ft) runways. The ﬁrst ﬂight ever to land was a TAP Air

Portugal Lockheed Constellation with 80 passengers on board.

In 1972, the popularity of visiting the island of Madeira increased, so

the runway had to be extended to allow modern and larger aircraft to

land. Considered the Kai Tak of Europe because of its singular

approach to runway 05, the decision was made to extend the existing

runway, instead of building a new one. In the meantime, a brand new

terminal was built at the airport in 1973, handling 500,000 passen-

gers.

Between 1982 and 1986, Madeira’s runway was successfully extended

by 200 m (656 ft) to a total of 1,800 m (5,906 ft), and also four gates

were opened. The original runway was only 1,600 m (5,249 ft) long,

but was extended by 200 m (656 ft) 8 years after the TAP Portugal

Flight 425 crash of 1977.

In 2000, the runway was again extended this time to 2,781 m (9,124

ft) almost doubling the size of the original runway. As landﬁll was not

a realistic option, the extension was built on a platform, partly over the

ocean, supported by 180 columns, each about 70 m (230 ft) tall. The

extension of Madeira Airport was conducted by the Brazilian construc-

tion company Andrade Gutierrez, and is recognized worldwide as one

of the most difﬁcult to achieve due to the type of terrain and orogra-

phy.

The new runway and terminal were inaugurated on 6 October 2002,

and to mark the occasion, an Air-Atlantic Iceland Boeing 747-267B,

registration TF-ABA, landed at the airport. Although this was a rare

event, some TAP Portugal ﬂights make scheduled stops at Madeira

with wide bodied A330-200 aircraft on the Lisbon-Caracas-Lisbon

route.

In 2004, Dr. Manabu Ito, President of the International Association of

Outstanding Structure Award in Shanghai: the enlargement of the

new runway at Funchal Airport won the 2004 Outstanding Structure

Award (considered the Oscars of worldwide structural engineering) by
