CAUTION: Be sure replacement parts are acclimated to
room temperature (test by touching) before installing.
CAUTION: Improper installation may result in damage to
the unit or RAID array which voids the unit warranty.
CAUTION: To ensure adequate drive cooling, the lid of
the enclosure must be fully closed during operation.
This document describes how to remove and replace or
install additional disk drives in an Overland ULTAMUS
RAID 4800 Storage Appliance or Expansion Unit.
Electrostatic Discharge Information
A discharge of static electricity can damage micro-circuitry
or static-sensitive devices. To help prevent Electrostatic
Discharge (ESD), observe standard ESD precautions.
ULTAMUS RAID disk drives come pre-installed in a drive
carrier with a latch mechanism. The procedure for
replacing a drive is similar to one for adding more drives.
1. Pull the enclosure from the rack cabinet just enough to
expose the drive slots.
The lid is retained in the rack as the enclosure slides
forward (Figure 1).

2. If replacing a drive, remove the old drive carrier:
a. Release the drive carrier handle by sliding the latch
towards the front of the enclosure and pivoting the
handle to the upright position. (Figure 2)

b. Using the raised handle, pull the drive carrier up
and out of the enclosure, setting it aside.
3. Insert the drive carrier into the enclosure (Figure 3):
