ThankyouforselectingtheExtechPortableThermometer.TheTMseriesthermometersareideal
forhomeuse.Measurethetemperatureofair,liquid,paste,orsemisolidmaterials.
The TM20 uses a standard temperature probe while the TM25 and TM26 are equipped with a
penetration probe for insertion into materials under
test. The TM26 functions the same as the
TM25 but the TM26 includes a sound reflector for amplifying its beeper and is NSF certified,
meetingtherequirementsforuseinthefoodserviceindustry.
Thesedevices areshipped fullytested andcalibrated and, withproper use, willprovide yearsof

Operation
DisplayProtectiveFoil
The meter’s display is shipped with a protective foil covering. Please remove carefully before
use.
Poweringthemeter
Open the batterycompartment by loosening the two screws located on the back of the meter
(on either side of the magnet). Insert a new CR2032 3V lithium button battery and close the
cover.Ifa batteryisalready installed,removetheinsulation stripsothatthebattery canmake
propercircuitcontact.
The instrument is now ready for use. Press the ON/OFF key once to power the meter. The
meter’sprevioussettingswillbepreserved.
All EU users are legally bound by the battery ordinance to return all used batteries to collection
pointsinyourcommunityorwhereverbatteries/accumulatorsaresold!Disposalinthehousehold
trashisprohibited!

MAXMINandHOLDFunction
Tofreeze(hold) thedisplayedreading, presstheMAX/MINkey.Thecurrentreading willbe
heldonthedisplayandtheHOLDdisplayiconwillbevisible.
PressMAX/MINagaintoviewtheMaximumreadingcapturedsincethelastreset;theMAX
indicatorwillbevisiblealongwiththeMAXreading.
PressMAXMINagaintoviewtheMinimum(MIN)temperaturereading;theMINiconwillbe
visiblealongwiththelowestreadingcapturedsincethelastreset.
Toreset the MAX andMINvalues pressandhold theMAXMIN button for3 seconds while
the
MAXorMINiconisvisible.
ToreturntonormaloperationpresstheMAX/MINkeyagain;theHOLDMINMAXindicators
shouldnowbeoff.
SoundReflector(TM26only)
The TM26 includes a sound reflector on the rear of the unit. This device amplifies the audible
beepersoastobeheardfromgreaterdistances.

TheTM26isNSFCertified,meetingtherequirementsforuseinthefoodserviceindustry.

TemperatureAlarms
Sethigh/lowalarmlimits asdescribedbelow.The meter willthenaudiblyandvisuallyalert the
userifeitherlimitisexceeded:
1. Pressthe ALARM/SETbutton oncefromthenormaloperatingmode; the upperlimit value
anditssymbol(uparrow)willflash.
2. Setthetemperaturelimitbypressingthebutton(pressandholdforfastscrolling).
3. Nowuse theMAX/MIN buttonto activate/deactivatethe alarm(alarm symbolwill
appear
intheupperrighthandcorneroftheLCDwhenactivated).
4. VerifythesettingbypressingALARM/SET.
5. Performthesamestepsforthelowalarmlimit.
Aftersettingthealarms, the upperandlower limitsymbols(▲▼)willbedisplayedontheLCD
indicating that an
upper and a lower alert value has been set. If the measured temperature
exceedseither limit, thealarm beeperwill sound for1 minute. The alarm beepericon andthe
correspondingarrowwillflash.Pressinganybuttonwillswitchoffthealarm.
When the temperature returns to the desired range
the audible alarm will stop sounding. The
arrowwillremainflashinghowevertoshowthatthetemperaturewashigherorlowerthanaset
valueatleastonceinthepast.PressthebuttontoswitchOFFtheflashingarrow.
