Windows Mobile 6.5 Online Update Procedure**
** IMPORTANT NOTES
1) Please backup all personal data stored on your Omnia

3) This instruction is applicable to Windows 2000 (SP4), Windows XP (SP2), Windows Vista and
Windows 7 only.
Currently, a MAC version of the online update is unavailable.
Currently, 64-bit operating systems are not supported.
4) System Requirements
CPU: Pentium 600MHz or Higher
RAM: 512MB or higher
HDD: 200MB or more available hard disk space
USB Port
Microsoft DirectX 9.0 or higher
5) The update tool requires a direct connection to the Internet you may need to configure your
Firewall or Antivirus software to allow this.

Please note that data charges may be incurred during the NPS and software download process
depending on the data plan with your Internet provider. E.g. the typical WM6.5 firmware will be

The below instructions will help you update your Omnia

from Windows Mobile 6.1 to Windows Mobile 6.5.
Please follow all steps below carefully as they are vital for a successful upgrade.
1. PC Software installation
1) Download and Install Active Sync on your PC

Note: It may be necessary to uninstall older versions of Active Sync prior to installing the latest
version.
2) Download and Install New PC Studio on your PC

Note: You may already have an acquired and installed an earlier version of New PC Studio
via the CD in the commercial box at the time of purchase. If so, please uninstall the earlier
version and install the current version available via the link above.
3) Restart your PC for all changes to be applied
4) Run New PC Studio. Select Menu > Update New PC Studio to check if the latest version is
installed. If a new version exists, please update New PC Studio.
2. Handset Settings
1) Ensure that the handset battery is fully charged
2) SIM card must be inserted in the handset
3) USB connection option must be set to ActiveSync mode
(Main Menu Settings General Settings USB connection select ActiveSync)
3. Firmware Upgrade
1) Turn on your handset (enter the SIM PIN if required)
2) Run New PC Studio and connect your handset to the PC using a USB cable. The handset will be
detected. You can close any active sync dialog boxes that may pop up.
3) A notification message for firmware upgrade will now be seen (see figure below).
4) Select the Upgrade Mobile Phone icon and then select the Upgrade button
5) Please read the steps carefully, then check I Agree to the given statement then
select ‘OK
6) Select an option Backup or No Backup then select Next
7) The upgrade tool will now start downloading the software from the Samsung
server. Once downloaded, an upgrade of the handset will occur.
IMPORTANT: Please do not unplug your device during this process.
8) After the upgrade is successful, the handset will power OFF and power back ON
(this will take a few minutes).
9) At the “Tap the screen to set up your Windows phone” screen, the device will
reboot one more time to complete the factory reset/configuration.
10) You can now use your handset again.
