Introduction
Perform simple, efficient evaporation using Thermo Scientific
Reacti-Vap Evaporators. This precision-machined gas
manifold performs either simultaneous or separate delivery
of nonreactive pressurized gas to samples in the Thermo
Scientific Reacti-Therm I and III Heating/Stirring Modules.
The evaporator simply attaches to the Reacti-Therm heating/
stirring module. The evaporating head tilts back for easy needle
attachment and removal. PTFE-coated needles are available for
applications using strong acids. Each Reacti-Vap evaporator
needle has a Luer-Lok hub for leak-proof attachment to
Reacti-Vap evaporators. Needles are available in 4- and 6-inch
lengths.

Assembly instructions
1. Carefully unpack and inspect the evaporator unit. Save
packing materials until unit has been carefully examined.
2. Attach the bottom-mounting bracket to the back of the
Reacti-Therm I and III heating/stirring modules with the four
supplied machine screws, using (4) nylon spacing washers if
mounting to an older unit (models: 187901, 18791, 18340 and
18940).
3. Insert rod into the bottom-mounting bracket and tighten to
secure it in place with the attached black screw knob.
4. Attach needles or plugs to Luer-Lok Tips on the evaporator
head (finger tighten only). Slide evaporator manifold onto
mounting rod, adjust to desired height and tighten with the
attached black screw knob.
Procedure
1. Attach 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) I.D. tubing (not supplied) to the inlet
port. For added security, fasten tubing with flexible copper wire
or other similar fastener.
2. Position unit such that the needles are slightly within the neck
of the reaction vessels. At the gas tank, adjust pressure at the
second stage of a two-stage regulator to 2 psi while the gas flow
is o.
Note: If the tank pressure is adjusted with the tank’s gas flow,
pressure can significantly increase from back pressure when the gas
flow is later shut.
Caution: To prevent unit from developing leaks, do not exceed 2 psi.
3. Attach tubing to the tank regulator and gently open the gas
release valve to prevent samples from splashing. Block any
unused ports with the stainless-steel plugs, which will prevent
gas flow from the outlets.
Caution: Use a fume hood when working with organic or otherwise
hazardous solvents.
4. After use, rinse needles with distilled water and allow them to dry.
If unit was used to volatilize acids, rinse manifold with an aqueous
bicarbonate solution followed by distilled water.

Reacti-Block aluminum blocks
The illustrated Thermo Scientific Reacti-Block aluminum blocks
are for use with the Reacti-Therm I and III heating/stirring modules
in conjunction with the Reacti-Vap evaporators. Each block
contains a thermometer well 7.1 mm diameter × 36.5 mm deep.
Block dimensions are 9.4 cm wide × 7.5 cm deep × 5.1 cm high
(3.7” × 3” × 2”). The dimensions listed for the holes are diameters ×
depths.

The Reacti-Block aluminium blocks below are designed to be used exclusively with the Reacti-Therm I and III heating/stirring
