R6 PCB Replacement Instructions
The following instructions explain how to replace the PCB (printed
circuit board) in a TracVision R6.
Tools Required
NOTE: PCBs are static-sensitive. Ensure you take the necessary grounding
precautions before handling.
#1 Phillips screwdriver
#2 Phillips screwdriver
7/16" open-end wrench
1/4" nut driver or wrench
CAUTION
For your own safety, be sure to disconnect power from all wired
components before performing this procedure.

PCB Replacement Instructions
Step 1 - Replace the PCB
a. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the eight
screws securing the radome to the baseplate. Remove
the radome and set it aside in a safe place.

b. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, remove the five screws
securing the PCB cover.
NOTE: Some older TracVision R6 antennas do not include a fan
assembly.

To preserve the integrity of the radome’s weather sealing
gasket, be sure to remove the radome slowly and gently.
Ensure that the gasket does not roll in any way.

c. Carefully tilt the PCB cover open, as shown in Figure 3.
NOTE: If your TracVision antenna does not include a fan assembly,
skip to Step 1e on page 5.

To avoid damage, you must disconnect the fan connector
on the PCB before you remove the PCB cover.

d. Disconnect the fan connector from the PCB. Then set
the PCB cover aside in a safe place.

Be sure to properly align the fan connector tab (see
Figure 4) when reconnecting the fan connector later in this
procedure.

e. Disconnect the five Molex connectors and the RJ11
connector from the PCB (see Figure 5).
TIP: Each Molex connector is a different size. Use the connector sizes
to determine the correct locations when reconnecting each Molex
connector later in this procedure.

f. Using a 7/16" open-end wrench, disconnect the two RF
cables from the PCB’s RF connectors (see Figure 5). Tag
the RF cables first to ensure that they are returned to the
correct location.
g. Using a 1/4" nut driver or wrench, remove the five
standoffs from the PCB. Then, using a #1 Phillips
screwdriver, remove the four screws securing the PCB.
Note the locations of the standoffs and screws to ensure
that they are returned to the correct location (see
Figure 5).
h. Remove the PCB.
i. Reverse this procedure to install the replacement PCB.
Ensure that the cable connectors are returned to their
original positions.
j. Then reinstall the radome and reconnect power to the
TracVision system.

Exercise caution when loosening or tightening the RF
cables. Twisting the RF cables can damage the antenna.

Step 2 - Configure the System
Before you configure the system to use the new PCB assembly, you
must determine whether the system is equipped with an interface box
or a KVH mobile receiver; configuration instructions vary according to
which component is installed.
If the system is equipped with an interface box, proceed to “Configure
the System Using an Interface Box” on page 7.

Configure the System Using an Interface Box
The following instructions explain how to configure the system using
an interface box.
a. Use the buttons located on the front panel of the
interface box to perform the procedure shown in
Figure 8.

b. Verify that the gyro calibration test passes. After
calibration, the antenna will restart; wait one minute for
the antenna to initialize.

c. (If necessary) If the System Sat Mismatch screen
appears, press ACCEPT. The interface box will
automatically configure the antenna to match the
interface box setup.

The PCB replacement process is complete! Be sure to return the old
PCB to KVH.
NOTE: Before returning the PCB, be sure to obtain an RMA number from
KVH Technical Support and write the number clearly on the outside of the
box. Shipments received without an RMA number will be returned to you at
your expense.

Configure the System Using a KVH Mobile Receiver
The following instructions explain how to configure the system using
a KVH mobile receiver. This procedure does not require a PC. You will
use the receiver remote control buttons to perform this procedure.

a. Press the mobile receiver’s Power button to turn on
the mobile receiver. Wait one minute for system
startup.
b. Press the remote control’s SELECT button to view the
menu. Then use the directional pad to highlight the
Antenna tab.
NOTE: If television programming appears on the screen, press the
remote control’s MENU button to view the menu. Then use the
directional pad to highlight the Antenna tab.

c. Using the remote control’s directional pad, highlight
the Current Settings button within the menu.

d. Press the remote control’s FAV button while the
onscreen Current Settings button is highlighted. The
Advanced Settings menu will be displayed.
e. Ensure that the onscreen Special Commands button is
highlighted. Then press SELECT.
f. Using the numeric keypad on the remote control, enter
the number 20 in the Command Code box.

g. Highlight the onscreen OK button, then press the
remote control’s SELECT button to calibrate the gyro.
Wait three minutes for gyro calibration to complete.

h. After three minutes have passed, highlight the WATCH
TV tab to exit the menu.
TIP: You must exit the screen manually after three minutes have
passed.
The PCB replacement process is complete! Be sure to return the old
PCB to KVH.
Before returning the PCB, be sure to obtain an RMA number from KVH
Technical Support and write the number clearly on the outside of the box.
Shipments received without an RMA number will be returned to you at your
expense.
