Operation
This unit may be operated in one of the following modes:
Standalone mode: Utilizing numerous built in lighting programs and its
internal microphone for sound activation.
Slave mode: Connected to another lamp, mirroring the operation of that
lamp in Standalone mode.
External DMX control: Also in slave mode, with control being
accomplished by an industry standard DMX-512 controller.
Initially Powering the Unit
Upon initial power up, the unit will display its default DMX address, 001.
The letter A will preceed this, indicating it is in 3-channel DMX mode.
Note that the display will only remain lit for a period of approximately 20
seconds. This prevents the brightness of the LED display from interfering
with scenery. Pressing any button will relight the display.
Operating Modes
As mentioned above, the stand-alone mode utilizes multiple internal
programs to provide an assortment of automatic operations. While
operating in this manner, the unit is also operating as a DMX master, in
that any connected PAR lamps in Slave” mode will mimic the operation
of this lamp. By placing this lamp in Slave” mode, it allows it to be
controlled by another lamp, or DMX controller.
If this unit is going to be used in stand-alone mode, skip to the Built-In
Program Mode section.
Selecting a DMX Mode
If the unit is going to be controlled by an external DMX controller, slave
from another LED LAMP, or set as a DMX master, you must first
determine whether you would like to operate the unit in 3, 4 or 16 channel
DMX mode. Naturally, 16 DMX channels offers the greatest flexibility,
www.mcmelectronics.com 4
while three channels offers the simplest operation, four channel mode
being a compromise between the two. The best setting will depend upon
your individual situation.
To select one of these modes, press the MENU button, the display will
light A001. Press the DOWN button, one time, the display will read either
Nod1, Nod2 or Nod3 indicating the DMX mode. Pressing the ENTER
button will cause the N to blink, you will then be able to select one of
the following modes:
Nod3 3CH RGB
Nod2 4CH RGB + Dimmer
Nod1 16CH RGB + individual lamp control + Program
Setting DMX Address
Once the desired mode is selected, Press The UP button and A001 will
again appear. Pressing the ENTER key will cause the A to blink,
allowing the DMX address to be set. Use the UP or DOWN button to
select the first DMX address of the unit. You may select any DMX address
between 001 and 512. Press ENTER to confirm. Addr will show again.
The unit is now ready to operate in SLAVE mode.
Built-In Program Mode
To set to Program Mode, press the MENU button to return to the root
menu. From the root menu, you can use the UP or DOWN buttons to
scroll through all built in programs, as well as select the number of DMX
channels and the DMX address. Following are a list of the built-in
programs. Within each program is the ability to select a numeric value
between 00~100. For example, if you select the first program, RL , you
then press ENTER, and 100 will be displayed. Using the UP and DOWN
keys, you may select any value from 00~100. Once the desired value is
achieved, press ENTER to lock that value.

DMX-512 Cables
DMX cables utilize 110ohm, twisted pair construction, surrounded by a
shield, and connected with industry standard XLR connectors. Industry
standard cables are available in 3-pin or 5-pin configurations. This fixture
utilizes the 3-pin type. While these cables appear virtually the same as
conventional microphone or balanced audio XLR cables, use of these
cables is not recommended as they may cause erratic intermittently
unreliable performance. Proper DMX cables are widely available at
professional audio dealers, and high quality Stellar Labs DMX cables are
available from MCM Electronics and its authorized dealers.
DMX-Connections
DMX controlled devices typically have input (male) and output (female)
connections. To connect multiple DMX devices to a chain, simply start at
the DMX controller or first DMX fixture output, then to the input of the
second device. Then connect the output of the second device, to the input
of the third, and so on until you reach the end of the chain. At the last
device, connect a DMX terminator to the output.
See www.mcmelectronics.com for a complete assortment of DMX cables
of varying lengths, DMX controllers, and DMX terminators.
