PoweringtheMeter
1. Turntherotaryfunctionswitchtoanypositiontopowerthemeter.Checkthebatteriesifthe
unitfailstopowerON.RefertotheMaintenancesectionforbatteryandfusereplacements.
2. TurnthefunctionswitchtotheOFFpositiontopowerOFFthemeter.
3. Themeterhas
anAutoPowerOFFfeature(APO)wherethemeterswitchesOFFafter20
minutesofinactivity.WhenAPOisenabled,theAPOiconwillshowonthedisplaywhenthe
meterispoweredON.TodisableAPO,refertothenextsection.
Note:Themeterdisplaysthebatterycapacitywhen
poweringup.Thedisplaywilleithershowthe
wordFULL(batteryfullycharged)orapercentagerepresentingremainingbatterypower.The
internationalsegmentedbatterystrengthsymbol
isalsoshownonthedisplayatalltimeswhen
themeterisONandwhenthereissufficientbatterypowertopowerthemeter.
DisableAutoPowerOFF
ThemeterwillautopowerOFFafter20minutesofinactivity.Todefeatthisfeature,followthe
stepsbelow.
1. WiththemeterOFF,pressandholdtheM(MODE)buttonand,whilecontinuingtohold,turn
therotaryfunctionswitchtoanypositiontopowerONthemeter.
2. The
displaywillshowAOFF.
3. Releasethebutton.
4. APOwillnowbedisableduntilthenextcycleofpower.
DisplayBacklight
WiththemeterpoweredON,pressthebacklightbutton toswitchthebacklightONorOFF.Note
thatexcessiveuseofthebacklightwillshortenthebatterylife.
SmartDataHold
TofreezetheLCDmeterreading,presstheH(HOLD)button.Whiledataholdisactive,theHOLD
displayiconappearsontheLCD.PresstheHbuttontoreturntonormaloperation.TheHOLDicon
willswitchOFF.
Themeter’sbeeperwillsoundandtheLCDwillflashifthe
detectedsignalis50countsgreaterthan
theheldreading.
TestLeadConsiderations
TestleadprobecoverscanberemovedforCATII1000Vinstallations.Usethetestleadprobe
coversforCATIII1000VorCATIV600Vinstallations.Donotmeasurevoltages>1000VACorDC.

WARNING:Itispossibleforvoltagetobepresentinacircuitevenifthemeterdoesnot
beeporlighttheNCVLEDlampatthetopofthemeter.Alwaysverifymeteroperationona
knownliveACcurrentcircuitandverifythatthebatteriesarefreshbeforeuse.
The audible beeper sounds and the LED lamp at the top of the meter lights when the meter
sensesanelectricalvoltagefield.
IfthemeterdoesnotemitatoneorlighttheLEDinthismode,thereis still the possibilitythat
voltageispresent.Pleaseusecaution.
1.
Turn the function switch to the NCV position to access the Non Contact Voltage Detect
mode.
2. Use the Lo/Hi button to select low sensitivity (160 to 1000V) or high sensitivity (80 to
1000V).ThedisplaywillshowLoforlowsensitivityorHiforhighsensitivitymode.
3. Notethevoltagedetectiondisplayicon onthedisplaywheninthismode.
4. To test, place the meternear asourceof electricalenergy. Notethat thetip ofthe meter
offersthehighestsensitivity.
5. NotetheaudibletoneandtheLEDlightwhenasourceofelectricalenergyisdetected.

3. RemovethetwoPhillipsheadscrewsthat
securethebatterycompartmentatthe

4. Openthebatterycompartmentandreplace
the9Vbatteryobservingcorrectpolarity.
Reassemblethemeterbeforeuse
