Worth capturing on film –
if you’re quick enough.
All eyes are on you as you race away from
the lights. Not for long though – you’ve
soon disappeared into the distance. But
the rider who’s got it all can afford to be
generous, so why not cruise round the
block again, and give them another look
at what they’re missing?

while the optional BMW Motorrad ABS

A cut above. The G 650 X range’s chassis.
While the chassis of the three motorcycles show a clear family
resemblance, each of them has been tailored to the model’s
distinctive needs. The Xchallenge, Xcountry and Xmoto all use
the same high-quality 45-mm Marzocchi upside-down fork,
but the set-up and equipment are quite different. For example,
the Xchallenge and Xmoto both boast 270 mm of travel on the
front fork (compared with 220 mm on the Xcountry), and feature
adjustable compression and rebound damping. At the rear, the
Xcountry and Xmoto have a height-adjustable hydraulic strut, fully
adjustable spring pre-load and rear damping, and 165 and 215 mm
of travel respectively.
The Xchallenge, meanwhile, combines 270 mm of travel with
the BMW Motorrad Air Damping System, a spring damper
mechanism powered entirely by air. It allows the rider to select
the ideal suspension set-up simply by adjusting the air pressure.
And as well as being highly responsive and offering outstanding
traction, it is also extremely robust.
Putting the brakes on. The G 650 X range’s BMW Motorrad ABS.
Weighing a mere 1.5 kg, the latest generation of BMW Motorrad ABS offers the ultimate in safety for all three models. The 2-channel
system provides exceptional braking performance while being very compact in size, and incorporates wheel sensors which automatically
monitor the distance between the sensor and sensor wheel. The system can of course be disconnected for off-road use, when fitted to
any of the models.

It’s all about the
technology.
Per
formance that packs a punch.
The G 650
X range’s single-cylinder engine.
The engine in the G 650 X range sets new standards in terms
of
smoothness, fuel consumption, emissions and reliability. Its
lightweight
alternator flywheel, redesigned airbox and exhaust,
and specially
adapted engine electronics ensure it offers sports-
sty
le performance and exceptional responsiveness. 53 hp (39 kW)
of
power and 60 Nm of torque provide outstanding acceleration
across the rev range, while a balance shaft keeps vibrations to a
minimum, no matter how hard the engine is pushed. The twin-spark
ignition facilitates cleaner, more effective combustion, and in
conjunction with the BMS-C II engine management system, offers
impro
ved fuel consumption and lower emissions, ensuring all three
motor
cycles easily meet the current EU3 standard.
