WARNING
READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL BEFORE INSTALLING OR OPERATING.
ARC WELDING AND CUTTING CAN BE INJURIOUS TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS. TAKE PRECAU-
TIONS WHEN WELDING. ASK FOR YOUR EMPLOYER’S SAFETY PRACTICES WHICH SHOULD BE
BASED ON MANUFACTURERS’ HAZARD DATA.
ELECTRIC SHOCK -- Can kill
S Install and earth the welding unit in accordance with applicable standards.
S Do not touch live electrical parts or electrodes with bare skin, wet gloves or wet clothing.
S Insulate yourself from earth and the workpiece.
S Ensure your working stance is safe.
FUMES AND GASES -- Can b e dangerous to health
S Keep your head out of the fumes.
S Use ventilation, extraction at the arc, or both, to take fumes and gases away from your breathing zone
and the general area.
ARC RAYS -- Can injure eyes and burn skin.
S Protect y our eyes and body. Use the correct welding screen and filter lens and wear protective
clothing.
S Protect bystanders with suitable screens or curtains.
FIRE HAZARD
S Sparks (spatter) can cause fire. Make sure therefore that there are no inflammable materials nearby.
NOISE -- Excessive noise can damage hearing
S Protect y our ears. Use earmuffs or other hearing protection.
S Warn bystanders of the risk.
MALFUNCTION -- Call for expert assistance in the event of malfunction.
PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS!

3 INTRODUCTION
3.1 General
The Power Inverter is a rectifier built using inverter technology and intended solely
for TIG welding and welding with coated electrodes. This machine is also designated
LHL 315.
A rating plate bearing the serial number and connection information is located at the
rear of the rectifier.
LHL 315 can be used with the following remote devices:
PHA1, PHA2, PHA5, PHB1, PHB2 and PHC2.
An additional unit is required for T IG welding with high frequency starting.
3.2 Technical description
Manual welding
A high open circuit voltage and well balanced initial current surge , or ”startpuff”, at
the moment the arc is struck ensure a stable welding cycle and easy restar ting. The
LHL has an anti--freeze feature that greatly reduces the r isk of the electrode sticking
to the work piece.
If despite this the electrode does stick, then the current is automatically lowered so
that the electrode can be freed without damage and welding can restart immediately.
This feature simplifies the welding of root passes and reduces electrode waste.
TIG welding
LHL 315 has very good TIG welding characteristics.
Because the minimum current is so low it permits very thin sheet to be TIG welded.
If a TIGAID T IG kit is added to the LHL it permits advanced TIG operation with fea-
tures such as slope in and out, pulsed current, pilot arc and automatic gas control.
Most materials can be TIG welded using direct current. There are a few exceptions,
including aluminium and magnesium.

LHL 315 complies with t h e requirements of IEC 974--1 and EN 60974--1.
Duty cycle
The duty cycle refers to the time as a percentage of a ten--minute period that you can weld at a cer-
tain load without overloading.
Enclosure class
The IP code indicates the enclosure class, i. e. the degree of protection against penetration by solid
objects or water. Equipment marked IP23 is designed for indoor and outdoor use.
Application class
The symbol indicates that the power source is designed for use in areas with increased
electrical hazard.

5 INSTALLATION
5.1 General
The installatio n must be executed by a professional.
WARNING!
This product is intended for industrial use. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio
interference. It is the user’ s responsibility to take adequate precautions.
Straps must be used when lifting the power source.
The handle is only intended for pulling it.
Lifting instructions
IMPORTANT
S Check that the welding rectifier is connected to the correct supply voltage.
S Earth the equipment in accordance with relevant regulations.
S Fit a suitable fuse to the distribution unit. See ”Connecting to electrical supply”
for fuse rating.
S Connect the welding cable and return cable. See ”Connecting to electrical
supply” for cable rating.
S Make sure the welding rectifier is not covered or positioned in such a way that
cooling is restricted.
S The machine is now ready for welding.
To reduce the voltage drop when using a long power cable it may be necessary to
use a cable with a larger cross--section.

6OPERATION
General safety regulations for the handling of the equipment can be found on
page 3. Read through before you start using the equipment!
6.1 Controls and connections
1. Power switch
2. Current control
3. Green indicator lamp
4. Yellow indicator lamp
5. Remote control socket
6. Switch, Remote/Local operation
7. Connections for welding and return cables
S Set the switch (1) to position ”I”. The green lamp will light and the fan will start.
S Set the welding current using the knob (2) with switch (6) in the up position.
S If the welding current is to be controlled remotely (6) the toggle switch should be
in the down position.
S The welding rectifier is now ready for welding.
6.2 Thermal cut--out
The power source has built--in thermal cut--outs that trip if the machine gets too hot.
When this happens the welding current is switched off and the yellow indicator lamp
(4) lights up.
The thermal cut--outs are automatically reset when the machine cools down.
7 MAINTENANCE
7.1 General
Note!
All guarantee undertakings from the supplier cease to apply if the customer himself
attempts any work in the product during the guarantee period in order to rectify any
faults.
Blow the power source clean at least once a year using dry, compressed air at re-
duced pressure.
If the power source is used in dusty or dirty premises it should be cleaned more
often.
