DO NOT use this product or any available optional equipment without first completely

such as user manual, service manuals or instruction sheets supplied with this product or
optional equipment.
Incorrect repair and/or servicing of this wheelchair performed by users/caregivers or
unqualified technicians can result in death, serious injury, or damage.
Users/Caregivers — DO NOT attempt to repair and/or service this wheelchair.
Repair and/or service of this wheelchair MUST be performed by a qualified technician.
Contact a dealer or Invacare technician.
Use of incorrect or improper replacement (service) parts may cause death, serious
injury, or damage.
Replacement parts MUST match original Invacare parts.
ALWAYS provide the wheelchair serial number to assist in ordering the correct
replacement parts.
Missing attaching hardware could cause instability resulting in death, serious injury or
damage.
Ensure all attaching hardware is present and tightened securely.
Corroded electrical components due to water, liquid exposure, or incontinent users can
result in death, serious injury, or damage.
Minimize exposure of electrical components to water and/or liquids. Electrical
components damaged by corrosion MUST be replaced immediately.
Wheelchairs that are used by incontinent users and/or are frequently exposed to
water/liquids may require replacement of electrical components more frequently.

DANGER

Electric shock can cause death or serious injury
To avoid electric shock, inspect plug and cord for cuts and/or frayed wires. Replace cut
cords or frayed wires immediately.
Failure to complete the inspection of the critical components
listed below could result in death or serious injury.
Inspect stability control components which could include anti-dive spring, anti-dive
cylinder, ratcheting gears, or end stops to ensure proper operation.
Inspect drive axle nut, locking tab, wheel fasteners or quick release to ensure drive
wheel is secure.
WARNING
Risk of Serious Injury or Damage
Use of non-Invacare accessories may result in serious injury or damage.
Invacare products are specifically designed and manufactured for use in conjunction
with Invacare accessories. Accessories designed by other manufacturers have not been
tested by Invacare and are not recommended for use with Invacare products.

Attaching hardware that is loosely secured could cause loss of stability resulting in
serious injury or damage
After ANY adjustments, repair or service and before use, make sure that all attaching
hardware is tightened securely.
Risk of Serious Injury or Damage
Moving the seating system from the factory setting may reduce driver control,
wheelchair stability, traction and increase caster wear resulting in serious injury or
damage.
Move the seating system ONLY when necessary to fit the wheelchair to the user.
If the seating system must be moved, ALWAYS inspect the wheelchair to ensure the
front rigging DOES NOT interfere with the front casters.
If the seating system must be moved, ALWAYS inspect to ensure the wheelchair
DOES NOT easily tip forward or backward.
Improperly connecting the motor leads to the controller may cause injury or damage.
WHEELCHAIRS WITH G-TRAC: Crossing the motor leads (for example: connecting
the left motor lead into the right motor connector on the controller) may result in
unintended movement.
DO NOT cross the motor leads when connecting the motors to the controller -
otherwise injury or damage may occur.
WARNING
Risk of Minor to Serious Injury
Pinch points can cause minor to serious injury.
Be mindful of potential pinch points and use c\aution when using this product.

Service Kit Installation Checklist
Ensure the following steps have been performed before returning the wheelchair to use.
Replace the locking-gas cylinder. Refer to Removing the Existing Locking-Gas
Cylinder on page 4.
If necessary, install the washers included in kits 1164005 and 1164007. Refer to
Installing the Washers Included in Kits 1164005 and 1164007 - TDX SP Only on
page 20.
Reinstall the front battery. Refer to Installing the Front Battery on page 24.
Wheelchairs with Formula
CG Seating Systems Only: Check Seating system for
proper mounting position. Refer to Checking Seating System Mounting Position on
page 26.
Verify the locking-gas cylinder setting. Refer to Verifying the Locking-Gas Cylinder
Setting on page 29.
Check the stability lock function. Refer to Checking the Stability Lock Function on
page 31.
Removing the Existing Locking-Gas Cylinder
Removing the Front Shroud/Battery Retention Bracket,
Battery and Rear Shroud from Wheelchair
WARNING
A pinch point may occur when returning the tilted seat to the full upright position or
when lowering the elevating seat. Make sure the hands and body of attendants and
bystanders are clear of all pinch points before lowering the seat or returning the tilted
seat to the full upright position.
CAUTION
Place the wheelchair in a well ventilated area where work can be performed
without risking damage to carpeting or floor covering.
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 1 on page 6.
NOTE: These procedures apply to both sides of the wheelchair.
NOTE: It is recommended that an assistant be present when lifting the wheelchair frame.
NOTE: For further information refer to Invacare.com, Technical Zone, TDX SP stability lock
(Invacare Pro account required):
NOTE: TDX SP shown in video instructions. Procedures will be similar for the TDX SR.

Video Instructions - Cylinder Replacement

1. Lower and/or tilt the seat to the full upright position. Refer to the Owners Manual
supplied with the wheelchair seating system.
2. If applicable, remove the footrest. Refer to the Owners Manual supplied with the
seating system for the wheelchair.
3. Put the joystick On/Off switch in the Off position.
4. Remove the three 5/16-18 X 1/2-inch long pan head screws that secure the rear shroud
to the wheelchair.
5. Remove the rear shroud from the wheelchair.
NOTE: The front shroud and battery retention bracket are removed from the wheelchair frame as
a single unit.
6. Remove the two 5/16-18 X 5/8-inch long socket head screws securing the front
shroud/battery retention bracket to the wheelchair.
7. Lift up to unhook the battery retention bracket from the wheelchair frame and remove
the front shroud/battery retention bracket from the wheelchair.
8. Wheelchairs without Elevating Seat Only -
A. Disconnect the controller from the batteries at the rear of the wheelchair.
B. Slide battery tray with batteries out.
9. Disconnect the battery straps (wheelchairs without elevating seat) or battery strap
(wheelchairs with elevating seat).
10. Disconnect front battery from rear battery.
11. Remove the front battery.
12. Wheelchairs without Elevating Seat Only - Slide the battery tray and rear battery back
into position underneath the seat.
13. Place two 5-inch blocks under battery frame to lift frame off the ground for ease in
performing this procedure.
NOTE: DO NOT continue disassembly if the wheelchair is unstable. Adjust the support block as
necessary until the wheelchair is stable - otherwise, injury or damage may occur

Removing/Installing the Drive Wheel/Rim and Tire
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 2 on page 8.
1. Perform one of the following to remove the drive wheels:
•TDX SP
i. Remove the five 5/16-18 X .88-inch long cap screws securing the drive wheel to
the wheel hub.
ii. Remove the drive wheel from the wheel hub.
iii. Repeat STEPS i-iii on opposite side of the wheelchair frame.
•TDX SR
DANGER
If wheelchair is equipped with pneumatic tires, deflate the tire before removing rim.
Otherwise, the rim and hardware will become projectiles and cause serious per-
sonal injury and/or damage to surrounding property.
i. If equipped with pneumatic tires, deflate tires before removing drive wheel
from the wheel hub.
ii. Remove the five M8X1.25 X 16mm long cap screws that secure the rim and tire
to the Gerless/Brusshless GB
motor.
iii. Remove the rim and tire from the GB motor assembly
iv. Remove the two screws that attach the side shroud to the walking beam.
v. Remove the side shroud.
vi. Repeat STEPS i-iv on opposite side of the wheelchair frame.

1. Remove the 5/16-18 keps nut and .328 X
.75 X .060 washer securing the bumper
to the wheelchair frame.
2. Remove the bumper from wheelchair
frame.
3. Repeat STEPS 1-2 to remove remaining
bumper.
4. Repeat STEPS 1-2 to remove the two
bumpers on the other side.

Disconnecting The Walking Beam Spring - TDX SR Only
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 4.
1. TDX SR Only: Perform the following to disconnect the walking beam spring:
A. Lift the front caster head tube up to lower the rear of the walking beam and reduce
tension on the walking beam spring.
B. Remove the mounting screw and threaded post securing the top loop of the
walking beam spring to the walking beam assembly or remove the walking beam
lower loop from the stud located on the wheelchair base frame.
C. Lower the front head tube.
D. Repeat STEPS A-C on opposite side of the wheelchair frame.

Removing the Walking Beam Assembly
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 5 on page 10.
NOTE: Take note of position and orientation of tie-wraps and wiring prior to removing tie-wraps.
1. Cut tie-wraps that secure the motor cable to the base frame.
2. Disconnect the motor lead from the controller.
3. Rotate the walking beam assembly until the 5/16 X 2.50-inch long socket head
shoulder screw aligns with the circular opening in the battery box.
4. Remove the 1/4-20 locknut securing the 5/16 X 2.50-inch long socket head shoulder
screw and the locking-gas cylinder to the walking beam.
5. Push the 5/16 X 2.50-inch long socket head shoulder screw towards the base frame and
the locking-gas cylinder is free from the walking beam assembly.
6. Position the locking-gas cylinder against the wheelchair frame.

7. Remove the two 1/2-20 locknuts and .505 X 1.124 X .100 inch washers or washer plate
securing the lower pivot link and walking beam assembly to the two battery box
mounting pins.
NOTE: A coved washer is located between the walking beam assembly and the base frame.
8. Slide the walking beam assembly and lower pivot link out, away from the wheelchair
frame and off the battery box mounting pins.
9. Repeat STEPS 1-8 on opposite side of the wheelchair frame.

Removing The Locking-Gas Cylinder Assembly
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 6 on page 12.
NOTE: Depending on the date of manufacture, the stability lock boot will be secured to the
wheelchair frame by a tie-wrap or 10-32 hex head screw.
1. Remove the stability lock boot.
2. Perform one of the following:
NOTE: To improve access to the 1/4-20 X .63 -inch long socket head screws, use a long, ball head
allen wrench or remove the two 1/4-20 X 5/8-inch long flat head screws and nylon spacers allowing
the rear frame to tilt away from the base frame.
TDX SP Built Before 3/5/07 (Detail “A” - FIGURE 6 on page 12) - Remove the two
1/4-20 X .63 socket head screws, spacers, and plate securing the boot plate to the
base frame guide block and the guide block clamp.

Remove the two 1/4-20 X .63 socket head screws securing guide block clamp to the
base frame guide block.
3. Lift the rear suspension and depress the pivot ball pin to de-activate the locking
mechanism of the locking-gas cylinder.
NOTE: If the locking-gas cylinder is forced against the vertical member of the battery box and will
not move, while lifting the rear suspension to de-activate the locking mechanism, use a rubber
mallet to knock the locking-gas cylinder downward to relieve force holding the locking-gas cylinder
in place.
4. Push the locking- gas cylinder towards the rear of the wheelchair and pull the
locking-gas cylinder away from the base frame.
5. Remove the locking-gas cylinder from the base frame guide block.
6. Repeat STEPS 1-5 to remove the locking-gas cylinder on opposite side of the
wheelchair frame.

1. Apply Super Lube
®
Multi Purpose Grease w/PTFE (Teflon
®
) or other silicon based
grease to the pivot ball of the new locking gas cylinder where it engages the guide
block and guide block clamp.
2. Position the pivot ball into the base frame guide block.

NOTE: Before installing, apply a small amount of Loctite

242 to the threads of the socket head cap
screws.
TDX SP Built Before 3/5/07 - Using the two 1/4-20 X .63-inch long socket head
screws, spacers, and plate secure the boot plate to the base frame guide block and
the guide block clamp. Torque to 75 in-lbs ± 20% (Detail “A” - FIGURE 7 on
page 14).
TDX SP Built After 3/4/07 and TDX SR - Using the two 1/4-20 X .63-inch long socket
head screws secure guide block clamp to the base frame guide block. Torque to 75
in-lbs ± 20% (Detail “B” - FIGURE 7 on page 14).
4. Holding the locking-gas cylinder in position, lift the rear suspension and depress the
pivot ball pin to de-activate the locking mechanism of the locking-gas cylinder.
NOTE: If necessary, use the vertical member of the battery box to assist with compressing the
locking-gas cylinder. While lifting the rear suspension to de-activate the locking mechanism,
position the loose end of the locking-gas cylinder against the vertical member of the battery box and
lift up on the locking gas cylinder until the locking-gas cylinder fits into the locating bracket and
aligns with the circular opening.
5. Pushing the locking-gas cylinder towards the rear of the wheelchair, position the
locking-gas cylinder against the base frame into the locating bracket so that the end
aligns with the circular opening in the battery box.
6. Repeat STEP 1-STEP 5 if installing the locking-gas cylinder on opposite side of the
wheelchair frame.

Installing the Walking Beam Assembly
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 8 on page 15.
1. Apply Super Lube Multi Purpose Grease w/PTFE (Teflon) or other silicon based
grease to the walking beam mounting pins.
NOTE: A coved washer is located between the base frame and the walking beam assembly and
lower pivot link.
2. Install the walking beam assembly, lower pivot link and coved spacers onto the
walking beam mounting pins.
3. Using the 1/2-20 locknuts and .505 X 1.124 X .100 inch washers or washer plate, secure
the walking beam assembly and lower pivot link to the base frame. Torque to 13 ft-lbs
± 20%, then back off 1/4 turn.

4. Rotate the walking beam assembly until aligns with the circular opening in the battery
box and the locking-gas cylinder.
5. Push the 5/16 X 2.50 socket head shoulder screw through the locking-gas cylinder and
the walking beam assembly.
6. Using the 1/4-20 locknut, secure the 5/16 X 2.50-inch long socket head shoulder screw
and the locking-gas cylinder to the walking beam. Torque to 75 in-lbs ± 20%.
7. Connect the motor connector to the controller.
8. Use tie-wraps to secure the motor cable to the wheelchair frame in the same position
and orientation noted before disconnecting the motor lead from the controller.
9. Repeat STEPS 1-8 to install the locking-gas cylinder on opposite side of the wheelchair
frame.

Checking the Actuator Function
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 9.
1. With the 3-½ to 5-inch block under the rear portion of the battery box, check to see if
the stability lock pin projects out from the brass end of the stability lock actuator
approximately 3/16 inches and the elevator bolt is not touchong the release pin (Detail
A”).
2. Push down on the back end of the motor and observe for one of the following:
If the motor does not move downward, the actuator is locking.
i. To lower the motor, lift the rear suspension assembly until the elevator bolt
pushes the release pin in.
If the motor moves downward the actuator is not locking. contact Invacare
Technical Service (800-832-4707).

Connecting The Walking Beam Spring - TDX SR Only
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 10.
1. TDX SR Only: Perform the following to connect the walking beam spring:
A. Lift the front caster head tube up to lower the rear of the walking beam.
B. Position the top loop of the walking beam spring onto the threaded post.
C. Using the mounting screw, secure the threaded post and walking beam spring to
the walking beam or position the walking beam spring lower loop onto the stud on
the wheelchair base frame.
D. Lower the front head tube.
E. Repeat STEPS A - D on opposite side of the wheelchair frame.

Installing the Front Bumpers
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to
FIGURE 11.
1. Position the front bumper onto the
wheelchair frame.
2. Using the 5/16-18 keps nut and .328 X
.75 X .060 washer, secure the front
bumper to the wheelchair frame.
3. Repeat STEPS 1-2 to install the
remaining bumper.
4. Repeat STEPS 1-2 to install the two

Installing the Drive Wheel/Rim and Tire
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 13 on page 19.
5. Reinstall the drive wheels. Perform one of the following:
TDX SP Only (FIGURE 12) -
i. Apply Loctite 242 to the five 5/16-18 cap screws.
ii. Align drive wheel with the wheel hub.
iii. Using the five 5/16-18 X .88-inch long cap screws, secure the drive wheel to the
wheel hub. Torque to 160 in-lbs.
iv. Repeat STEPS i-iii on opposite side of the wheelchair frame.

TDX SR With Flat Free Tire Only (FIGURE 13) -
NOTE: In order to install the flat-free tire properly, the tire MUST be compressed to a
certain point to allow the use of the 16 mm long mounting screws. This is accomplished by
first using three M8 X 1.25 X 22mm long mounting screws (not included in kit) threaded
into every other mounting hole. The longer mounting screws are not to be threaded
completely into the GB motor. They are to be threaded 1/4 inch only to provide
compression of the flat free tire.
i. Using the two screws, secure the side shroud to the walking beam.
ii. Attach the rim and tire to the GB motor with three M8 x 1.25 x 22 mm long
mounting screws (available from Invacare, Part No. 1153683) in every other
mounting hole in the rim.
iii. Once the three M8 x 1.25 x 22 mm long screws are in place, install one shorter
mounting screw in each of the two remaining mounting holes.
iv. Remove one longer mounting screw at a time and install the M8 x 1.25 x 16 mm
long mounting screws.
v. Torque all mounting screws to 13 ft-lbs.
vi. Repeat STEPS i-v on opposite side of the wheelchair frame.
TDX SR With Pneumatic Tire Only (FIGURE 14) -
i. Using the two screws, secure the side shroud to the walking beam.
ii. Secure existing rim and existing pneumatic tire (with new tube, if applicable)
to the gearless/brushless motor and torque the five (5) mounting screws to 160
in-lbs.
iii. Inflate tire to proper tire pressure located on the side wall of the tire.

6. Perform one of the following:
Kits 1164005 and 1164007 - Install the washers supplied in kit. Refer to Installing
the Washers Included in Kits 1164005 and 1164007 - TDX SP Only on page 20.
Kits 1164006 and 1164008 - Reinstall the front battery. Refer to Installing the Front
Battery on page 24.

1. Identify mounting screw type (button head or flat head) securing the rear suspension
assembly to the wheelchair frame (FIGURE 15).
2. Perform one of the following:
Wheelchair with Button Head Screw - Install washer kit. Proceed to STEP 3.
Wheelchair with Flat Head Screw - Washers are not required. DO NOT install
washers. Proceed to Installing the front battery. Refer to Installing the Front Battery
on page 24.

3. Ensuring the block is under the battery box only (FIGURE 16), place a 3-½ to 5-inch
block under the rear portion of the battery box to elevate the wheelchair.
