PRE-INSTALLATION NOTES & GENERAL INFORMATION ON CPT 9000 PHONE
SYSTEM
X5 (E53) vehicles are pre-wired for the CPT 9000 Digital Phone and have the telephone
antenna factory installed.
The CPT 9000 System on the X5 (E53) functions as a fully integrated Portable Digital
Phone. In addition, for those vehicles equipped with factory navigation the CPT 9000
System will also function as a Mayday (Emergency) and Roadside Assistance “BMW
ASSIST “ Call System. Additional features include automatic “Mayday” call on airbag
deployment and vehicle theft alarm activation.
The Telematics Control Unit (TCU) for the CPT 9000 Digital Phone replaces the Akira
TCU previously used with CPT 8000 Digital Timeport Phone. The TCU must be coded
via the DIS (or MoDiC) Version C25.0 for vehicle configuration and VIN data. See TCU
Coding on page 18.
The CPT 9000 Digital Phone is available in both CDMA and TDMA versions. Both
versions are Tri-Mode, Dual Band phones, meaning they will operate in the following
modes: 1900MHz Digital (CDMA/TDMA), 800MHz Digital (CDMA/TDMA) or 800MHz
Analog (AMPS).

Pay special attention to the routing of the harnesses. The arm rest has to slide and therefore it
is important to secure cables in such a way as not to obstruct this action or damage harnesses
themselves. Take notice that the eject box harness is routed under the vehicle harness. This
assures proper positioning and secures the wiring.
Antenna
The installation of a secondary antenna is necessary if a handset is to be used in all X5 series
models
.
A bumper antenna is required P/N 84 11 1 470 326.

Programming
Because of roadside and emergency calls, the full vehicle identification number must be
programmed into the TCU. Failure to program the number in will result in the emergency call
center not being able to recognize the owner of the vehicle. Although the vehicles location will
still be transmitted.
After complete installation of eject box , TCU requires to be programmed via DIS Tester.
Please refer to S.I.B. 84 14 01 for detailed information programming Customer Assistance and
