8 Preface
Intended use
The cobas
®
infinity insights application provides a data
repository for statistical purpose and a set of predefined
statistical reports used for test consumption and
production monitoring by laboratory management. The
functionality includes an extraction layer (ETL, Extract,
Transform, Load) to import the data from an IT
information system, a storage layer to keep consolidated
data for a period of time defined by the users, a reporting
layer to display the result of queries on the data storage.
cobas
®
infinity insights is used only for driving
laboratory management decisions. It is not intended for
making medical decisions regarding patient treatment
and health.

What is new in publication version 5.0
Self-reporting feature This version provides a new feature including 3 cubes for
the General Lab module, and 4 cubes for the
Microbiology module.
This feature allows you to create easily your own reports
using any BI tool supporting connection to Microsoft
Analysis Services. The tool used to create the examples
and instructions shown in this user guide is Microsoft
Excel.
The new feature replaces the previous functionality for
generating reports using PowerPivot and the Data model.
Therefore, the sections ‘Using an external tool to generate
reports’ and the ‘Appendix: Data model specifications’
have been deleted.

20 Overview of the predefined reports
About report data interpretation
To interpret the reports correctly, you must consider
particular features related to the information provided by
the data source.
q Data comes from the history or daily database of the
data source depending on the installation.
Orders In the initial data load process, the date considered for
the reports is the order registration date.
Tests In workflow management reports, the end date
considered is the day when the test was validated.
During installation, the system administrator sets
whether to consider the technical or the medical
validation.
In test consumption reports and in reports from the
Microbiology report set, the date considered is the day
when the result was entered.
u To know which is the type of a report, see About the
report types (18).
Dates The first day of the week is defined during installation.
The date format in the filter area corresponds to the
browser configuration.
The date format in the reports corresponds to the
application’s installation settings.
Demographic options In the demographic filters, the drop-down lists display
the options as configured in the data source.
Only coded and free/coded demographics are
included (maximum 50 options).
Demographic options are shared for Central Lab and
Microbiology report sets, so a drop-down list could
show an option which is not applicable to that report.
The Emergency Lab module is displayed as a
demographic option. If you want to exclude data from
that module, or only include its data, you must choose
the Emergency Lab option in the demographic filters.
Language The language of the framework elements corresponds
to the language preference set in the Internet browser
options.
The language of the field and report names is set
during the application installation.
The language of the specific options in drop-down
lists depends on the data source configuration.
