Foldable Compact Size:
With very smart hinge design, HI-303N can folded from 180° to 0° to
accommodate the best satellite receiving angle. You can adjust HI-305N
in best angle with your mobile device on the dashboard so that the
external antenna will not needed. Also, you don't need to face the
mobile device display to the sky for better receiving angle.
Total GPS solution:
On the side of HI-305N,
there is a SD memory
slot. User can insert the
SD memory card
containing the mapping
software so that the GPS
data and the map data
can be accessed
simultaneously via the
Compact Flash interface
from the host device like,
PDA, laptop PC, etc.,.
After the proper driver installed, with the SD memory card inserted,
as soon as user plug the Compact Flash interface, there will be a
folder created from host device.
Beside using it as a complete GPS solution, HI-305N can also be a SD
card reader in CF interface. One can store any file into any standard
SD memory card and the file can be read or write via the Compact
Flash interface.

3.1 HI-305N Introductions
HI-305N is a GPS receiver with Compact Flash type I / mini-1394
interfaces and built-in active antenna for high sensitivity to tracking
signal. Based on the Numerix Ultra low power consumption chip set
and supports all functions (Single Sat updates in reduced visibility,
Superior urban canyon performance, Foliage Lock for weak signal
tracking, etc.). HI-305N is well suited to system integration and users
who use any kinds of mobile devices, such as, PDA, notebook PC,
Tablet PC, etc. It satisfies a wide variety of applications for car
navigation, personal navigation or touring devices, tracking and
marine navigation purpose. Users can simply plug it into a PDA or
other type of handheld PC running with suitable mapping and
routing software for navigation.
By counecting different
optional connecting
cables, HI-305N can be
all kinds of wired GPS
receiver solutions.

4.2 External Antenna
Basically, you don't need external antenna to perform GPS
positioning with HI-305N since it already build-in active antenna.
HI-305N can receive good satellite signal without external antenna
even using in car dashboard or side window. The only condition that
you need external antenna is when HI-305N can not directly "see"
the sky, For instance, when you are in the middle of a car, or any
environments that GPS signal is blocked, the external GPS antenna
will help to receive better GPS signal.
Plug the external antenna with MMCX connector to the plug on
the side of HI-305N. Place the magnetic external antenna on the
roof of the car or outdoor open-space, and make sure place it in
correct direction. That is, the side with magnetic is the bottom side,
and the upper side must face to sky in order to receive better signal.
Notice:
Hold the antenna connector while you plug the external antenna
into HI-305N or unplug the external antenna from HI-305N. Do not
pull the cable line.

Using Compact Flash Interface with PDA:
1. Plug in the CF part into your PDA equipped with Compact Flash
interface.
2. Running the suitable mapping/navigation software and select
the correct COM port & baud rate: 4800, N, 8, 1.
Usually, the COM port is COM 2~COM 10 depending on the PDA
type.
User can use the testing program provided with the package to
detect the COM port that HI-305N is using.

6.1 ONE-PULSE-PER-SECOND (1PPS) OUTPUT
The one-pulse-per-second output is provided for applications
requiring precise timing measurements. The output pulse is 1usec in
duration. Rising edge of the output pulse is accurate to +/-1usec
with respect to the start of each GPS second. Accuracy of the one-
pulse-per-second output is maintained only when the GPS receiver
has valid position fix.
The 1PPS output is always generated when the GPS receiver is
powered-on. Proper adjustment of the 1PPS output to align with the
GPS second requires calculation of the receiver clock offset and
clock drift-rate as part of the position-velocity-time (PVT) solution.
When enough satellite signals are received to generate valid
position fixes, the 1PPS output is adjusted to align with the GPS
second in several seconds. When the 1PPS output is brought in sync
with the GPS second, the 1PPS Valid Signal on the I/O pin becomes
active (HIGH); when the 1PPS output is not yet in sync with the GPS
second, the 1PPS Valid Signal remains inactive (LOW).
As long as enough satellite signals are received to generate valid
position fixes, the 1PPS output remains synchronized to the GPS
second, and the 1PPS Valid Signal remains active. If signal blockage
prevents the receiver from generating valid position fix, the 1PPS
output will drift away from the GPS second and the 1PPS Valid
Signal will become inactive. Upon re-acquiring enough satellites to
generate consecutive valid position fixes, the 1PPS Valid Signal will
become active again, signaling that the 1PPS output is again
synchronized with the GPS second.
For best stable operation of the 1PPS signal, it is to be operated in
static environment having clear view of the sky.

6.2 SOFTWARE INTERFACE
This section describes the details of the serial port commands
through which the HI-305N GPS module is controlled and
monitored. The serial port commands allow users to set the receiver
parameters, configure output message type, and retrieve status
information. The baud rate and protocol of the host COM port must
match the baud rate and protocol of the GPS receiver serial port for
commands and data to be successfully transmitted and received.
The default receiver protocol is 4800bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and
none parity.
6.3 NMEA OUTPUT MESSAGE SPECIFICATION
The HI-305N supports NMEA-0183 output format as defined by the
National Marine Electronics Association (http://www.nmea.org).
The currently supported NMEA messages for GPS applications are:
15
6.4 NMEA Messages
The serial interface protocol is based on the National Marine
Electronics Association's NMEA 0183 ASCII interface specification.
This standard is fully define in "NMEA 0183, Version 3.01" The
standard may be obtained from NMEA, www.nmea.org
