1 Introduction
This Manual applies to Vetus/Marex ship windows with aluminium
proles; the screw on range, comfort range and exclusive range.
2 Pre-installation inspection
important
Check the glass immediately after unpacking
Determine center area (A) and calculate the edge area:
- The distance B1 shown in the drawing is calculated as follows:
B1 = H x 5%
- The distance B2 shown in the drawing is calculated as follows:
B2 = W x 5%
Clean the glass.
Check the glass in daylight, never in direct sunlight.
Inspect the glass at a 90 degree angle.
Defects examples: debris, spots, bubbles, scratch, local distortion.
2.1 Acceptance criteria glass panes up to 0,6 m

(6 sq. ft.)
Central area
- One defect smaller than 1.6 mm (

”) and viewable from 1.5 me-
ters (4.9 ft).
- No scratches.
Border area
Not more than one defect, in total, as described below:
- Defect smaller than 1.6 mm (

”) and viewable from 3 meters
(9.8 ft).
- Sratch shorter than 12 mm (

3 Operating
Whole and Half-Opening Windows:
Opening:
Release the extension arm handles by about 2 turns (to the left),
turn both extension arms inwards while pushing the window out
at the same time.
Lock the window in the open position by tightening up both han-
dles again.
Closing:
Release the extension arm handles by about 2 turns, rst pull both
extension arms inward and then turn them towards the window
frame to close the window.
Lock the window in the closed position by tightening up both
handles again.
4 Fitting
Fixed Window with round corners:
It is possible to t the window in a slightly curved wall. A curve of
maximum 3 cm. per metre is possible. With a high window more than
30 cm. high, the curve should be less, or completely at.
Fixed Window with double glass and condensation gutter:
Fit the aluminium window frame in a completely at surface only!
Hinged Window:
Fit the aluminium window frame in a completely at surface only!
If tted in a curved surface, the hinges will be overloaded!

Slide and Drop Windows:
Fit the aluminium window frame in a completely at surface only!
The window will jam or slide badly in a curved surface!
Cutting the Hole
Draw the hole to be cut out using the the window.
Remove burrs and smooth the edges.
Warning
Dust created when working with glass-bre reinforced polyes-
ter is hazardous to lungs and eyes. So always wear a dust mask
and protective goggles. Ventilate the working area properly.
Comfort and exclusive range:
The windows of the comfort and exclusive range are xed through a
clamp construction. Holes for xing screws do not have to be drilled
in the wall in which the window is tted. The length of the screws
supplied is based on the specied wall thickness.
The window frame already has a rubber. Do not apply any sealant!
Fit the window in the hole (from the outside!); the backplate must
rst be carefully removed.
Fit the backplate (on the inside!). If required, use a rubber or plas-
tic-faced hammer to tap the backplate into the frame. During t-
ting, press the backplate against the frame regularly.
When pressing on the outside, apply pressure to the frame and
NOT the glass! Sliding windows must be tted in the closed posi-
tion.
Screw-on range:
The windows of the screw-on range are fastend from the outside.
The screws are not included. These windows are supplied with a
foam rubber (inseal) for a watertight installation. Do not apply any
sealant!
Do not apply the foam rubber yet!
Place the window (from the outside!) in the opening; mark where
the holes for the xing screws, remove the window and pre-drill
the holes.
Attach the foam rubber to the window, place the window in the
opening and secure with the screws.
When pressing on the outside, apply pressure to the frame and
NOT the glass! Sliding windows must be tted in the closed posi-
tion.
For a window with round corners: Fit the backplate, starting with the
seam. Do not tighten up the screws until at least 3 corners of the
backplate are clamped in the window prole. This will avoid tting
problems with the third or fourth corner.
5 Maintenance
Clean the anodized or powder coated aluminium proles regu-
larly: 2 to 4 times a year, depending on how dirty they are.
Only use neutral cleaning agents. DO NOT use alkaline, acidic or
abrasive agents for cleaning the wndow frames or to remove ad-
hesive residues from the glass.
