Read all instructions carefully before attempting this procedure. If you have any questions about your ability to
complete this procedure, call Andersen at 1-888-888-7020 for further direction. Andersen WindowCare® service
center hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central

Every assembly and installation is different (windloads, structural support, etc.). Andersen strongly recommends
consultation with an Andersen supplier or an experienced contractor, architect, or structural engineer prior to the
assembly and installation of any Andersen product. Andersen has no responsibility in regard to the post-manufactured
assembly and installation of Andersen products.

1. Tape Broken Glass
Wear gloves, safety glasses, goggles, or eye shields
when handling glass. Tape broken glass with filament
or duct tape before removal to reduce glass
fragmentation. Failure to do so may result in injury,
product and/or property damage.
Remove interior removable grille, if present. Keep
grille for reinstallation.

Suction grips will not
hold if placed over
seam of film to lift or
move unit. Unit will
fall causing damage or
injury.
Sealants will damage
exterior coating on glass.
Tempered or laminated safety glass is not standard and must be special ordered. Check local building codes.
Leave protective film in place until after construction is finished.
Remove protective film within nine months of installation and when temperature is above 32 degrees F.
Remove protective film from seam or corner using plastic scraper if needed.
Leave (NFRC) performance label in place until final inspection.

2. Remove Sash from Window
Open Sash.
Disconnect Operator from Sash by
removing screws from Operator Track
with Phillips screwdriver. Keep screws
for reuse.
Loosen NRP (non-removable pin) set
screws in Hinges with 1/16" hex wrench.
Tap out Hinge Pins with punch and
hammer while supporting Sash.
Set Sash on clean flat work surface
exterior side up.

and install window and door products to

Open Sash 30º.
Release Operator Arm Clip from Sash
Bracket using a flat screwdriver. Crank
Operator open.
Pull back Hinge Arm Clip and remove
Hinge Arm from Hinge Track.
Hold Sash firmly and slide Upper and
Lower Hinge Shoes from Hinge
Track and remove Sash.
Set Sash on clean flat
work surface exterior
side up.

Cut though sealant between exterior stop and
glass around entire perimeter of glass.
Flip Sash interior side up.
Cut through glazing tape between interior stop
and glass around entire perimeter of glass with
utility knife (or oscillating saw with hook blade).
Score finish between interior stop and Sash with
utility knife, if interior is finished.
3. Cut Seal Between Glass and Stops
Insert putty knife between interior stop and Sash
in center of longest interior stop.
Insert a pry bar behind interior stop against putty
knife.
Lift the pry bar, pulling interior stop from Sash.
Putty knife is to help protect Sash from damage.
Repeat process for all interior stops. Remove
curved stops last.
Remove all nails from Sash and interior stops.

4. Remove Interior Stops
Existing interior stops can be reused if required.
DO NOT damage interior stops if reusing them.

5. Remove Glass
Remove glass from Sash. Save glazing shims for
reinstallation.
Scrape old sealant from exterior stop with putty
knife. Do Not damage exterior stop.
Windows and doors can be heavy. Use safe lifting
techniques and a reasonable number of people with
enough strength to lift, carry and install window and
door products to avoid injury and/or product
damage.

Using New Interior Stops
Reusing Existing Interior Stops
New interior stops are not precut to length. Interior
stops are sent long and must be cut to fit on site.
Apply glazing tape to new interior stops if needed.
Miter cut interior stops to fit frame.
Use old interior stops as guide for length and cut
angle.
Clean old glazing tape from interior stops using
putty knife (or oscillating saw with scraper blade).
Use alcohol to soften glazing tape if needed.
Apply glazing tape to interior stop keeping glazing
tape 1/32" from top of interior stop. Trim ends of
glazing tape flush with ends of interior stops using
utility knife.

6. Prepare Interior Stops

Clean new glass with alcohol. Allow alcohol to
dry.
Apply 3/8" continuous bead of sealant on inside of
exterior stop around perimeter of window. See
drawing for location.
Place glazing shims along bottom rail of Sash
2" from each side and every 12" between. Reuse
old glazing shims if possible. Do Not use wood
shims.
Lift glass into Sash and set on glazing shims.
Press glass into sealant until glass is
approximately 1/16" from exterior stop. Do Not let
glass touch exterior stop.
Install shims between glass and Sash as required
to center glass within Sash. Do Not distort Sash
when installing shims.
Pull tape backer from glazing tape on interior
stops. Install interior stops against glass.
Secure interior stops in position using 1 ¼" finish
nails. Install curved stop(s) first.
Clean excess sealant from exterior of glass.
Apply fillet bead of sealant between glass and
exterior stop.
Sealant must be compatible with all materials it
contacts. Follow sealant manufacture’s
instructions for application of sealant. Failure to
do so may result in water infiltration.
