6. Exhaust valve
Sealed State: In the sealed state, the pressure cooker is closed tightly with the lid
securely locked. This creates an airtight environment inside the cooker, preventing the
escape of steam or pressure. The sealed state is typically used when cooking under
pressure, as it allows the pressure to build up within the cooker, raising the boiling point
of the liquid and enabling faster cooking times. During this state, the exhaust valve is
closed to prevent steam from escaping.
Exhaust State: The exhaust state occurs when the pressure cooker has completed the
cooking process, and it is time to release the pressure and allow the steam to escape.
The exhaust state is achieved by opening or activating the exhaust valve on the
pressure cooker. This allows the built-up steam and pressure to be gradually released
from the cooker. By releasing the pressure, it makes the contents safe to open and
prevents potential accidents or injury from a sudden release of steam. The exhaust state
is also used when adding ingredients or checking on the progress of the cooking without
the high pressure. Note: When exhausting, keep hands and face away from the exhaust
opening.
Check if the floater valve drops down before working (before cooking, the floater valve is
down).
